Chapter 197 - 187 Watching

Chapter 197: Chapter 187 Watching

Gu Qili finally moved his hand away, she was wearing a pullover half-sleeve pajama,

This man, he even gets jealous over a dog.

Gu Qili adjusted the camera, not letting him see the Pug.

"Tired from work?" Mu Shuoqian lit a cigarette and started smoking.

"Not bad, just not used to the first day at work, I’ll adapt soon."

Standing all day, her legs were so sore that she could barely bend them.

His eyes deep, as if contemplating something: "My office is always open for you."

Gu Qili couldn’t help but laugh helplessly, he was still concerned about that.

"Mu Shuoqian, can you not pull strings for me? It’s okay to work hard, but experiencing the warmth and coldness of human relationships is also a training. If I live every day under your protection, and everyone greets me with a smile, then I will never be able to understand society, nor can I adapt to it on my own."

"You only need to understand me." He was still so domineering and unreasonable, which gave Gu Qili a bit of a headache.

"But I don’t understand you either?"

His past, his taboos, to her, he was still an enigma.

Mu Shuoqian took a puff of his cigarette, his gaze shifting from the screen for the first time as he readjusted the video angle.

"You’re tired, go to sleep early."

"What about you?" Gu Qili yawned, she was indeed feeling sleepy, and she needed to get up early tomorrow morning as the restaurant required her to be on duty by six.

"It’s still daytime over here."

"Alright, then I’m turning off the video, okay?"

"Turning it off now?" He crushed the cigarette, his face suddenly came close, on the screen, his handsome face seemed like it was about to jump out of the phone, "Did you forget something?"

Gu Qili squinted and smiled, knowing full well what he wanted, and so she puckered her lips and kissed his face with a smack; only then he contentedly withdrew his face, his voice tenderly teasing her heartstrings, "Don’t turn off the video, just leave it on."

"You want to watch me sleep?" Gu Qili was slightly surprised.

"Yeah," he said, "I’ll keep an eye on that dog for you."

Gu Qili: "..."

Pug: "..."

Knowing he wasn’t joking, Gu Qili happily positioned her phone in a good spot, with the camera directly facing her bed, able to see her every move.

She pulled the blanket over herself, sweetly waving at Mu Shuoqian who was still watching her, and said in small gestures, "I’m going to sleep now, if I snore at night, pretend you didn’t hear it, and if I sleep in an awkward position, don’t wake me up to readjust."

He nodded, "You don’t snore."

After a moment’s thought, he asked back, "Do I snore?"

Gu Qili turned over in the blankets,

And she indeed stretched out her hand, gently touching the screen with her fingertips; Mu Shuoqian cooperatively pressed his face closer, filling the screen with his face, so close yet without any flaws to be seen.

Gu Qili caressed his face with her finger, then happily snuggled back into the blankets, lightly whispering a sweet goodnight.

"Goodnight." Mu Shuoqian quietly watched her fall asleep, she was probably really tired, and she fell asleep quickly, breathing gently, her eyebrows relaxed,

Mu Shuoqian looked at the Pug who had been lounging on the bed since earlier, and the Pug was also looking back at him.

The man and the dog stared at each other for a while, and the Pug voluntarily jumped off the bed.

Woof woof, was this man’s gaze going to kill it?

Out of sight, out of mind! Woof!

In a foreign country, Mu Shuoqian looked at some documents for a while before turning his head back to the screen. It was already deep into the night on her side; she was sleeping soundly, having switched positions twice. Her blanket had been kicked aside, and the pillow had fallen onto the floor, and there she was, lying on her back, limbs in the air.

Mu Shuoqian gently shook his head,

Gu Qili woke up and it was still dark outside. She wriggled like a worm, reached for her phone on the bedside table, intending to check the time, but instead, she saw Mu Shuoqian’s face, which startled her so much she almost threw the phone away.

But she quickly got over the shock, realizing that her phone had been left on with a video call to him all night, and now she had slept through it. How come he was still there? Even with the time difference, he should be sleeping by now.

Gu Qili rubbed her eyes and murmured sleepily, "Morning."

The Mu Shuoqian at the other end of the video call still maintained an alert expression, putting down the document he held only when he saw her wake up: "I was about to call you."

"You didn’t sleep all night?"

"Just finished work."

Unable to contain her frustration, Gu Qili grabbed her phone and scolded his handsome face: "Mu Shuoqian, how many times have I told you, your health is your own, and work is never-ending. Do you just dismiss my words? You’ve been working nonstop; even a body of steel has its limits, not to mention you have stomach issues. Ah, you’re going to be the death of me."

She was genuinely angry, unable to touch him or hit him, anxiously ruffling her already messy hair.

She was visibly upset, yet the man on the other end chuckled, seeming in a good mood, his eyes and brows filled with laughter.

"If you don’t get up now, you’ll really be late. It’s your second day at work, right?" His tone was salty as he stated the fact lightly.

Gu Qili had no choice but to quickly get out of bed, walking out of range of the camera, only to back into view again,

"I was already in bed."

Gu Qili almost spat out blood. Why, across thousands of miles and through a screen he couldn’t touch, could his shameless aura still come through so strongly?

Gu Qili quickly moved and hung up with a click.

With Mu Shuoqian’s voice and infuriating figure gone, she finally took a deep breath of relief, feeling like even someone as pure as her could be led astray by him.

Gu Qili left some leftover dog food for the pug, grabbed her bag, and hurriedly left to catch the bus.

She had never realized before how hard it is to be a waiter, waking up before five in the morning and only getting home after the sun has set, or, if working a night shift, coming home with only the stars for company.

But a small flame burned inside her, growing stronger with adversity. She didn’t do this for anything else but to prove to herself that even without the Gu family’s resources, Gu Qili was still an unbeatable little monster.

The old clothes, soaked in disinfectant and bleach the previous night, had dried after hanging all night. Though not as vibrant as new ones, they were still clean.

"You’re really early." Kang Hongxiu was surprised to see her washing cups, "I thought young people liked to sleep in."

With practiced ease, Gu Qili placed the cups in the dishwasher and switched it on, smiling, "Sister Kang, you’re only a few years older than me, why do you act like you’re not part of the younger crowd?"

Kang Hongxiu stepped over to help: "The age might not be very high, but my mentality is older, lacking the passion and vigor of you youngsters in their twenties."

"Don’t say that, the elderly in our community are in their sixties and seventies and they still dance in the square every day. They can bend down and touch their toes with their head, something I can’t do."

"Are we here to work or to chat?" Guo Jun suddenly appeared like a ghost, sternly glaring at Gu Qili.

Actually, there were still five minutes left before the work time, and Gu Qili had arrived early and started working ahead of time, but instead of being praised, she was reprimanded by Guo Jun, leaving Kang Hongxiu unable to hold back a retort, "Supervisor Guo, it’s not even six yet."

"The moment you are in this restaurant, you are working. It doesn’t matter whether it’s officially working hours yet or not. If I see you chatting during work hours again, don’t blame me for docking your pay."

Gu Qili’s hand wiping the cups clenched the cloth tightly; she had never been scolded so harshly before. She used to dine in upscale restaurants, and now here she was, being shouted at by a supervisor.

She swallowed her anger; after all, this was the path she had chosen for herself, and no matter how much hardship and indignity she faced, she would endure it stoically.

Hiding the hurt in her eyes, Gu Qili humbly replied, "Understood, Supervisor Guo."

Guo Jun intended to harp on it further but seeing her quickly admit her fault, he held his remaining words back, his face stiff as he walked away.

"Power-hungry petty person," Kang Hongxiu coldly remarked as he left, "He’s just a brownnoser who knows how to suck up to his bosses. You shouldn’t take his words to heart."

"Yeah, I won’t," said Gu Qili, although saying she didn’t care was false—her mood was indeed affected. After all, being a pampered Miss, it was not easy to immediately adjust to such cold human relations. That’s why during lunch, she went to that usual corner to send a message to Mu Shuoqian.
