Chapter 177: Chapter 170: Gu Qili_2
Leader Zhang assigned the rooms without intention, not knowing which ones were desirable and which weren’t.
"I want the room where you can see the sunrise, it can inspire my writing," Luan Yi pointed in the direction where Gu Qili had left, "That one of hers."
Knowing that Luan Yi was Manager Qi’s niece, Leader Zhang naturally didn’t dare to offend her. He said to wait and then went off to catch up with Gu Qili.
Zhu Ping, who entered the elevator with Gu Qili, was also her new colleague; they had sat together on the plane just before.
"Gu Qili, swap rooms with Luan Yi," Leader Zhang, panting, ran over and held the elevator door.
"Why?" countered Gu Qili unmoved, "Wasn’t it you who assigned the rooms?"
Even Leader Zhang found Luan Yi too pretentious, but he didn’t want to offend anyone. Compared to the more intimidating Qi Meihui, a new recruit like Gu Qili seemed easier to bully.
"Why so many questions, just swap with her if you’re told to swap," Leader Zhang darkened his face.
Gu Qili certainly did not want to indulge Luan Yi’s whims, granting her whatever she fancied, or else she’d think she could shoot for the moon.
Zhu Ping tugged at her hand and muttered, "A wise man does not fight when the odds are against him. We’re both newcomers; offending the leader and Manager Qi won’t do us any good, it’s just a room, let’s just concede."
Although very reluctant, Gu Qili found reason in Zhu Ping’s words. She was here for training, not for pleasure or to invite drama. It’s better to have less trouble than more.
Thinking this, Gu Qili exchanged her room card with Leader Zhang. He said, "A newcomer should know practicality," and happily went off to report.
With the new room card in hand, Luan Yi flashed a victor’s smirk toward Gu Qili in the elevator, to which Gu Qili responded with a middle finger as the elevator doors closed.
Luan Yi nearly burst with rage, "Gu Qili, how can you be so uncultured?"
"Talking about lack of culture, I see that she’s the one who’s totally lacking it," Zhu Ping snorted coldly, having no respect for such a woman riddled with princess syndrome.
With the new room card in hand, the room Gu Qili got was right across from the one she had swapped away. The previous one faced the sun; this one faced away. But for her, it made no difference.
"Qili, with your beauty, you could be an actress. Why settle for being a waitress and putting up with others?" Zhu Ping didn’t know that she was a top student from Australian University.
What she really wanted to say was that with such looks, she could do anything, even marry a rich husband and be a wealthy lady.
Gu Qili pocketed the room card and laughed, "Good looks don’t put food on the table, do they?"
Zhu Ping nodded in agreement, "True, but the Lisboa’s benefits are exceptional, especially the French Restaurant. Even the waiter’s salary is frighteningly high, not to mention various commissions. That’s why many college students are willing to stoop and apply for a job here. After all, there’s nothing shameful in serving others; we all make our living by working hard."
As Zhu Ping spoke, they arrived at her floor, they said goodbye and Gu Qili continued on the elevator.
Luan Yi’s room wasn’t bad either, it simply lacked a view of the sea. But for someone who was used to seeing the sea, this was truly trivial.
After organizing her luggage, Gu Qili got a call to go downstairs for dinner. After a simple meeting post-dinner, everyone rested up for the training that would start officially the next day.
Gu Qili returned with a pile of training materials all related to the French Restaurant.
After browsing for a while, she opened her phone to WeChat and saw an unread message from Mickey asking how she was settling in the new environment.
Gu Qili vented about Luan Yi’s antics to her, and the two video chatted, gossiping about Luan Yi. Mickey said she had to get to class as she recently found a part-time job teaching kids Taekwondo and was very busy in the evenings.
After hanging up, Gu Qili lay on her bed and opened Mu Shuoqian’s WeChat, feeling a bit disappointed that he hadn’t contacted her at all, leaving her feeling empty inside.
In a foreign place, unfamiliar with everything, the person she missed most was him.
Embracing her pillow, Gu Qili picked a smiley emoji to send to him but reconsidered and deleted it, worrying it might come across as too forward. Better to play it cool.
She exited WeChat and opened her photo gallery. There weren’t many recent pictures, and the last two were of her and him in a lavender field in France, his smile faint, their heads close together, looking every bit like the closest of couples.
He had never confessed anything to her, nor had he professed any explicit feelings. Their relationship was like a gently simmering soup, without dramatic flare-ups but slowly warming nonetheless.
Gazing at the photo for a while, when no one was around, Gu Qili stole a kiss on his face and whispered, "Goodnight."
Early the next morning as Gu Qili pushed open her door, she saw Luan Yi dressed up and leaving the room opposite. Given a disdainful look, Luan Yi hummed and left.
Gu Qili didn’t bother with her and took another elevator instead.
The trainees had their meal in the dining room followed by entering the meeting room where the day’s training focused on the daily routine of the beverage department, with the lecturer explaining operational standards through a PPT.
This training session would have a test, the results of which would be recorded in the monthly salary and also affect the selection of the best employee of the month and year.
Gu Qili listened attentively and kept making notes.
"Qili, how come your notes are so well done? The teacher said so much, yet you captured all the key points without missing anything," Zhu Ping said, surprised, sitting beside her. "Can I borrow them to copy later?"
"Hmm," Gu Qili nodded with a smile.
After class, Zhu Ping started copying the notes, and when the others saw how comprehensive they were, they immediately gathered around to copy.
"Hey? Don’t take it, I’m not done copying yet!" Zhu Ping had only finished a small part before the notebook was snatched away.
They copied and copied, and in the end, the notebook just vanished.
"Where are the notes? Lin Tao, wasn’t it you who took them?" Zhu Ping panicked, she was the first to borrow them and now they had disappeared when she intended to return them to Gu Qili.
