Chapter 172: Chapter 167: Inseparable Like Glue and Lacquer
Mu Shuoqian glanced at the friend request but outright ignored it.
The next morning, Gu Qili received a call from Grand Lisboa, informing her to attend a week-long new employee training starting from tomorrow.
She was still in bed when she took the call, half-asleep at first, but upon hearing the news, she was instantly wide awake.
After hanging up, she sat up straight away. Mu Shuoqian was still asleep, his long and strong arm firmly wrapped around her waist.
Gu Qili looked at his sleeping face and, with a smile, lay back down, sharing the same pillow and silently counting his eyelashes.
All of this felt like a dream. She didn’t even know when she had fallen for him. He was clearly bad-tempered, with a crafty mind and a sharp tongue.
It turns out, liking someone happens imperceptibly, without one noticing, silently and softly, until one stumbles and falls into the whirlpool of love, unable to extricate oneself.
But isn’t this developing a bit too fast?
Gu Qili couldn’t help covering her face and giggling. When she removed her hand, Mu Shuoqian was awake.
"Morning," she greeted with squinting eyes.
Mu Shuoqian observed her for a moment,
"Morning," his masculine voice resonating with magnetism, his gaze deep and intense as it focused in her eyes.
He liked that the first thing he saw every morning when he woke up was her.
Feeling a bit embarrassed under his gaze, Gu Qili hadn’t washed her face yet, might have eye boogers, and her hair was a mess, surely not looking her best,
Gu Qili buried half of her face into the pillow, twisting her body a little in embarrassment, "Do I look very ugly in the morning?"
"Tomorrow."
"Don’t you need to prepare?"
Only then did Gu Qili get up; the person who had informed her also mentioned that the training would take place at a beach hotel on Palm Island in Aus City, being a full enclosure, and that she needed to bring a week’s worth of clothes and daily necessities.
After preparing breakfast, she began to pack her luggage, while Mu Shuoqian sat at the dining table reading the newspaper.
Gu Qili went to the kitchen to fetch her water cup, and seeing Mu Shuoqian’s back suddenly felt a sense of reluctance. If she couldn’t see him for seven days, would she miss him a lot?
It’s over; she’s already starting to miss him before she has even left.
Gu Qili cursed herself for being so sentimental as she took a seat in front of him. She had already had breakfast, but just wanted to spend a little more time with him.
"Any fun news?" she inquired, referring to his newspaper.
In fact, he was reading a financial newspaper, full of numbers-related stuff – how could there be any fun news? It wasn’t an entertainment column.
Mu Shuoqian looked up from the newspaper, glanced at her, and then started to fold his tofu thinly, "Shouldn’t the trees be watered by now?"
Gu Qili slapped her thigh and hurriedly pushed the door open to go out.
For convenience in watering, Mu Shuoqian had set up a wooden stand in the garden, on which a watering can and some weeding tools were placed. He never ordered others to do it, but did it himself, every inch of soil filled with his sweat.
Because these were Gu Qili’s treasures, he cherished them even more.
Gu Qili watered the grapevines and lavender. The lavender had not yet sprouted, covered by just a thin layer of moist soil.
Seeing a few small bugs climbing on the grapevine, she asked worriedly, "Are they infested? Should we spray insecticide?"
Mu Shuoqian, standing outside the fence, replied with certainty, "Yes."
At the flower market, Gu Qili took another look at the man beside her with a clear and stern face; just to buy a packet of insecticide, he had personally come over. Today was not a weekend; he should be at work, and he’s always been a workaholic.
At the insecticide seller’s, the owner, after hearing her description of the bugs, chuckled and said, "That’s not a pest, just a type of moth that does no harm to the trees. This kind of moth is quite common."
Gu Qili glanced at Mu Shuoqian, whose hands remained in his pockets. He had sounded so sure they were pests. She didn’t recognize this type of moth, didn’t he either?
"Just because there are no pests now doesn’t mean there won’t be in the future," Mu Shuoqian suddenly pointed at the various insecticides in front of him and said, "Buy one pack of each type."
The owner, encountering such a customer for the first time, thought that while preventing problems before they occur is good, buying one pack of every type was a bit excessive.
Gu Qili shook his arm, "Why buy so many? We can just come buy them if pests appear later, it’s not far anyway."
The owner hurriedly said, "How about this, I’ll pick a few packets of medicine for common pests for you to have on hand, and if you encounter any tough problems, you can come back."
Gu Qili thought it was a good idea, and it seemed Mu Shuoqian agreed too.
After purchasing the insecticide, Gu Qili also took a look at the aquarium next door. She didn’t have time to raise fish now, but she might consider getting a fish tank later.
Along the way, the pair of a handsome man and a beautiful woman was too eye-catching; no matter where they went, glances would follow them. Gu Qili didn’t mind, but Mu Shuoqian, being a person of his stature, obviously wasn’t too happy about being gawked at like an ornamental fish, his brows tightly furrowed.
Despite that, he still stayed by her side, accompanying her to look at flowers, plants, and insects that held no interest for him.
Upon leaving the flower market, Gu Qili felt a bit embarrassed for taking up his time, so she said, "If you’re busy with work, you can go ahead. I’ll just stroll around by myself."
He glanced down at her and said, "Didn’t you mention that you’re out of shower gel?"
It was then that Gu Qili remembered that they had indeed run out of shower gel back at home, and the brand she used was only available at one store in Aus City. She was worried he wouldn’t like using a different brand, but that store was too far away.
Mu Shuoqian picked up the car keys: "Let’s go."
All of a sudden, Gu Qili felt that although he had been incredibly busy all along, constantly taking calls, it seemed as if he was deliberately trying to accompany her all over the place. Running errands like buying insecticide and shower gel really didn’t necessitate his presence—besides, the tree they had wasn’t even infested with insects.
Could it be that he, just like her, felt reluctant to part with her tomorrow, cherishing this brief time together more dearly?
Thinking this, Gu Qili’s heart bloomed with joy, her hand on his arm tightening involuntarily, her eyes and brows filled with a proud smile.
If you want to be with me, just say it, you awkward man.
Together, they went to buy the shower gel and had lunch. Mu Shuoqian seemed overwhelmingly busy, still taking calls during the meal.
"You’re so busy, why don’t you head back this afternoon?" Even though he had volunteered to come, Gu Qili couldn’t help feeling guilty, as if she was clinging to him and preventing him from working.
He put down his phone, his gaze deep as he said, "Come with me."
She had no intention of going originally; the place was full of gossip and while he was going to work, she would just be bored. But the thought of not seeing him for a whole week made Gu Qili agree readily.
Mu Shuoqian was happy, his lips curving into a smile naturally as he held her hand and they left the restaurant together.
Suddenly, Gu Qili felt that, the way things were now, they resembled a couple in love. She had never been in love before, but she imagined that being in love must feel like this—being inseparable as if three autumns had passed with each day apart.
But as soon as they reached Mu Shuoqian’s company, Gu Qili refused to enter with him.
After getting out of the car, she stood by it and waved at him, "Mu Shuoqian, you go ahead. I’ll go buy some milk tea."
She had just clearly had three large glasses of juice; how could she possibly have room for milk tea now? Of course, Mu Shuoqian understood what she meant.
She had always been concerned about her public image. If someone with an agenda saw them, who knows what they might say behind her back. She was used to idle chatter but didn’t want Mu Shuoqian to be subjected to the same criticism.
Mu Shuoqian did not call her out on her pretense and simply nodded, going up alone.
After wandering around for a bit, Gu Qili also entered. The receptionist at the front desk, upon seeing her, did not stop her but was very attentive, personally guiding her to the elevator and pressing the button for the twenty-fourth floor.
Clearly, she had been instructed to do so.
Gu Qili made her way unobstructed to the President’s office. The newly appointed security guard at the elevator greeted her with the utmost respect, knowing that Mu Shuoqian would never allow her to be slighted in any way.
She knocked on the door, but when no response came from within, Gu Qili was puzzled. Suddenly, Xiao Ran’s voice came from behind her, "Madam, Young Master Qian is in a meeting. Please go in and wait." Saying that, he opened the door for her.
Gu Qili thanked him and entered.
Seeing the empty chair behind his large desk, Gu Qili felt a bit hollow inside, but she didn’t want to disturb his work. So she sat down on the sofa, took out a book from her bag, and began to read.
Mu Shuoqian was in the middle of a meeting when Xiao Ran approached and whispered in his ear, "Madam has arrived."
He gave a slight nod.
Xiao Ran, having completed his task and about to leave, saw Mu Shuoqian suddenly rise and stride out, blurting out to the stunned Xiao Ran, "Tell everyone to go back to their own offices. We’ll switch to a video conference."
Xiao Ran: "..."
A group of managers: "..."
Having a video conference while in the same building? What was the President up to?
Gu Qili was reading when the door to the President’s office was suddenly pushed open. Seeing the man rush in hurriedly, she couldn’t help but raise a smile, "Are you done with work?"
It couldn’t possibly be that quick.
"Not yet, I have a meeting."
Gu Qili, dizzily kissed by him, chuckled, "You hold your meeting, just pretend I’m not here."
Of course, he couldn’t pretend she wasn’t there. On the contrary, in his eyes, she shone like a diamond.
While Mu Shuoqian was in the middle of a video conference with the senior management, he would occasionally glance at her, always catching her looking back at him. When their gazes met, Gu Qili would smile at him, and with a slight curve of his lips, he would return his attention to the meeting.
