Chapter 163: Chapter 160 Don’t Be So Overbearing and Unreasonable_2

"Young Master Qian..." Xiao Ran was about to speak.

Mu Shuoqian had already risen to leave, indifferently dropping a sentence: "You and Jiang Jingda will bear the cost of replacing the carpet and the front door."

Xiao Ran silently accepted it, considering it the lightest punishment he could receive, though the president’s office door was indeed expensive.

Qili had fewer and fewer classes lately, and she mostly didn’t need to attend them. When Mu Shuoqian returned, she was lying in bed reading a book. Hearing the door open, she immediately put on her slippers and ran out.

"Oh, you’re back?" If she remembered correctly, today wasn’t a weekend.

Mu Shuoqian’s expression was grim as he tossed his car keys into the storage compartment and changed his shoes to come inside.

"Have you eaten yet?" Gu Qili noticed his stern face and spoke cautiously.

Mu Shuoqian walked over and sat on the sofa, saying: "Come here."

Gu Qili could only sit opposite him, and thinking of something, she felt a bit guilty and dared not look at him.

"Do you have something you want to say to me?" He pulled out a cigarette from the coffee table and lit it, his gaze turning dangerous. Under such heavy scrutiny, Gu Qili confessed everything.

"I’m sorry, I did not submit the resume for the French translation position, I know you mean well for me, you..."

He interrupted her unhappily: "The reason."

Gu Qili placed her hands on her knees, curling up nervously. Actually, before the recruitment, she wanted to tell him, but she was afraid he would disagree. So she simply decided to confess after the recruitment occurred - even if he got angry, he couldn’t force her to work there.

"What did Reynolds tell you?" His legs crossed, he smoked, his eyes filled with disdainful mockery when mentioning Reynolds.

It must have been that foreigner stirring things up, he should never have let her go to his estate.

Gu Qili wasn’t surprised that he knew about Reynolds; in a foreign country like F country where she was unfamiliar, he dared let her wander around. Surely he had people covertly watching her; hence, where she went and whom she met were all clear to him.

"It’s not about Reynolds. It’s a decision I made after a lot of thought." Gu Qili raised her head, her gaze clear and firm, "I visited his wine estate and was deeply moved. He knows every blade of grass there as well as he knows his own character. As for me, aside from having read a few books, I know nothing about managing a winery. You also said before that a person who doesn’t understand wine, even if they were to take back the winery, would only be prolonging its life a few more years, barely surviving. So, I want to start from the most basic work and slowly build up experience. Once I feel adequately prepared, I can take over the winery. It’s the one precious thing Dad left behind, and I want to care for it and manage it like it’s my own life, letting it thrive rather than languish."

Mu Shuoqian continued smoking, his brows tightly furrowed.

Gu Qili’s scalp tingled under his gaze, but she persisted, "So, I want to first apply to be a waitress in the wine department of your hotel’s French Restaurant, starting from the basics of understanding wine. I’ve heard that restaurant is famous for its wine, often visited by renowned wine masters from various places."

"You, a top graduate from a foreign language college, want to be a waitress?" Mu Shuoqian clearly couldn’t agree with her decision.

"There are also Tsinghua graduates who sell pork, what does that have to do with school performance?" Gu Qili muttered under her breath, though keeping her voice low.

"Mu Shuoqian, I just want to manage Dad’s winery well. I don’t care about being a top student, and being a waitress is only temporary." She moved closer to him, trying to appease by shaking his arm gently.

She knew he had really put in a lot of effort to get her to become a French translator. He had deliberately made the recruitment information wet for her to see, a fact she was aware of, and she also guessed that his office really didn’t lack that position.

Similarly, becoming an outstanding interpreter had always been her dream, or else she wouldn’t have chosen the language specialty from among many options.

It took her a long time to grapple with giving up this dream. Since returning from F country, she was troubled daily by this dilemma. Being an interpreter would fulfill her dream and secure her livelihood, but an interpreter couldn’t manage such a large winery. She couldn’t selfishly only think about her own settled life; she also had her father’s unfinished passion to fulfill.

Therefore, she gave up her pursuit to complete her father’s last wishes, and no one was sorrier than her.

Her arguments didn’t seem to persuade Mu Shuoqian; his face cold, he stubbed out his cigarette, "I don’t agree."

Being a waitress was hard enough, and a woman of Mu Shuoqian’s should not be exposing herself daily in the restaurant, agreeing subserviently to everyone.

Gu Qili got a bit angry, having said so much, yet he hadn’t listened to a word: "This is my own issue, don’t I even have the right to decide for myself? I appreciate your kindness, but you should also respect my decision, Mu Shuoqian, can you please not be so overbearing and unreasonable?"

"You think I’m being unreasonable?" He scoffed coldly, getting up and striding toward the study, no longer paying her any attention.

"You are being overbearing and unreasonable, you’re not even trying to see things from my perspective." Gu Qili shouted at his retreating form: "I am marrying you, not being sold to you, I should be in charge of my own affairs."

The response she got was the loud bang of a slamming door.

Gu Qili stared at the closed door, stamping her foot in frustration.

Did he think she wanted to be a waitress? When had she ever served anyone, or bowed and scraped? Even someone of Reynolds’ stature could work for years in the vineyards. Her current situation did not allow her to maintain a pampered young lady’s identity, thinking she could manage the winery well without hardship or labor was just a daydream.

And she, was already past the age of dreaming.

Gu Qili ignored him and turned to go to the kitchen to make herself some noodles; no matter how angry, she needed a full stomach to have the energy to be angry.
