The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship
Chapter 124 How Much Did You Drink?

Chapter 124: Chapter 124 How Much Did You Drink?

Gu Qili finished her resume, clicked save in the upper left corner, stretched out lazily, and realized it was already half-past eleven.

She wasn’t completely sure about her chances for this job application as a French translator.

Clutching her resume, Gu Qili wondered if she should show it to Mu Shuoqian, as after all, the French translation role was directly under the president’s office, and he would know the requirements better than anyone else.

But after some thought, she voluntarily gave up on that idea, fearing that he might think she was trying to leverage his influence, which would inevitably lead to his scornful remarks towards her.

Putting away her resume, Gu Qili started reviewing vocabulary words. The exam was tomorrow, and although she was well-prepared, she still felt very nervous with sweaty palms.

At midnight, feeling sleepy, she washed up, crawled into bed, and prepared to have a good sleep for the full-focus exam tomorrow.

She had just laid down when she heard the sound of the door opening outside; she knew it was Mu Shuoqian coming back.

She perked up her ears for a while, but she only heard the sound of the door opening without hearing it close.

Suddenly she felt a bit scared. If it were Mu Shuoqian, he wouldn’t leave the door open; Gu Qili had a shiver, and all sleepiness vanished.

She sat up, fumbled around the bedside for a while, and finding nothing suitable for self-defense, she eventually grabbed the lamp from beside her, planning to hit an intruder’s head with it if there really was one, and then run.

Gu Qili cautiously opened the door; the living room was pitch black, and the door was still ajar with a faint breeze coming through.

A figure stood at the doorstep, noticeably shorter than Mu Shuoqian by a large margin.

The person stood motionless, as if surveying the layout of the place.

Gu Qili, mustering her courage and gritting her teeth, clutched the lamp tightly, crouched, and moved step by step closer.

Looking back, she realized how reckless she had been. If the visitor was indeed a burglar, she should have called the police first for help, then locked herself in the room rather than rashly confronting the person. If the intruder had a weapon, wouldn’t she be at a great disadvantage?

Fortunately, just as Gu Qili lifted the lamp, the living room light was turned on.

Mu Shuoqian and she looked at each other, frozen in a moment where big eyes stared at small eyes.

Mu Shuoqian’s arm rested on the shoe cabinet, his body half-bent, making him appear much shorter, while Gu Qili stood quite straight, still holding the lamp high like the Statue of Liberty.

Mu Shuoqian silently watched her.

Gu Qili awkwardly stood for a long while, then neatly placed the lamp on the shoe cabinet and stretched a point by saying, "I think this lamp looks quite suitable here, don’t you think?"

Mu Shuoqian didn’t respond, his eyes a bit unfocused and wandering.

Gu Qili smelled a heavy scent of alcohol, wrinkled her nose and sniffed a couple of times: "How much did you drink?"

It felt like he had been fished out of a liquor vat.

He still didn’t react, just straightened up his waist suddenly, standing taller which again emphasized the height difference and the overwhelming pressure looming over her once more.

Gu Qili shook her head and half talking to herself turned around: "Your stomach isn’t good, drink less, really now, I’ll go make you some hangover soup..."

Suddenly, a handsome face leaned down, his attractive yet cool lips unexpectedly drawing close.
