Chapter 71: To End The Misery
Chapter 71: To End The Misery
"You can lie down for a bit," Alex said with a comforting smile. "I’ll call Mom and Dad. They’ll be worried."
"No," Jean said, her voice cracking. "Don’t. They... they already knew. They’re the ones who brought him here. They promised me to him."
Alex’s eyes narrowed, but he kept the fake sympathy on his face.
"Are you sure? That doesn’t sound like them."
Jean chuckled bitterly. "It does. It really does."
Alex walked over and handed her a cushion. "Just relax. I’ll get you some water."
She nodded numbly and sat on the couch, clutching the cushion to her chest like it was her last source of warmth.
Alex stepped outside the suite, pulled out his phone, and typed swiftly.
"Room 609. She’s all yours..." — Sent to Tyler Dominic—
A sly, satisfied smile spread across his face.
Then he made another call.
"Dad... yeah, it’s done. She’s in the room, alone. I’m guessing we can tell Tyler to move forward with the proposal now?"
He chuckled quietly, leaning against the wall.
"Finally, we’re getting rid of her... and sealing Dominic’s deal."

Alone in the room she trembled in fear, the never ending tears kept falling from her eyes. She decided to go to the washroom to splash some water on her face.
Jean’s hands were still shaking as she turned on the tap in the bathroom. Cold water splashed onto her face, but it did little to calm the storm inside her chest. She stared at her reflection in the mirror.
Her eyes looked hollow. Her skin is pale. The girl staring back at her didn’t look like Jean Adams anymore.
Just a broken soul trying to hold herself together.
She took a towel and wiped her face slowly, forcing herself to breathe.
Just rest. Nothing will happen now. Alex is here. He said he’ll handle it.
She walked out of the bathroom, limping slightly. The room was dimly lit and quiet. The bed looked warm and safe.
Too tired to think, Jean sat down and pulled the blanket over herself.
But something felt strange beneath the soft covers.
Crunch.
Her brows furrowed. She lifted the blanket and felt around. Her fingers touched a bundle of papers. Frowning, she pulled them out.
They weren’t just papers. They were documents. Bound together neatly. Stamped and marked.
And on the top... her name.
Her full name.
Her hands trembled as she flipped through them. Marriage papers. Agreements. Clauses.
And Tyler’s Signatures.
Jean’s blood ran cold. These weren’t just any documents. They were preparing to sell her.
To him.
Jean’s hands were still shaking as she clutched the documents to her chest. They really were going to hand her over like she was some kind of object.
Like she didn’t matter.
Without wasting another second, she ran to the door, ignoring the sharp pain in her ankle. She limped down the hallway as fast as she could, heart pounding so loud it echoed in her ears.
Just as she reached the corner near the elevators, she froze.
Voices.
She pressed herself against the wall and held her breath.
Alex.
And... Tyler.
Their voices were low, but she could still hear every word.
"She won’t fight me? But what she did to me was the opposite of what you are saying. She trusts you? Jean Adams trusts no one," Tyler said with a twisted grunt rubbing his sore muscles where Jean hit him.
"Don’t worry, she doesn’t know I am involved in this too, she listened to me and is staying in the room." Alex chuckled. "She’ll be all yours soon. Once we’re in, just act sweet. She’s too soft to resist for long."
Jean’s stomach turned.
She stayed completely still, her hand covering her mouth to keep herself from making a sound. Her entire body trembled... not from the cold, but from pure fear.
Once they passed by, heading to the room she had just escaped from, Jean moved fast.
She rushed to the elevator and jabbed the button repeatedly.
Please... come on!
A ding. The doors opened.
Without looking back, she slipped inside and pressed the button for the ground floor. The doors slid shut just as a shadow moved into the hallway behind her.
Jean didn’t wait to see if they noticed. She was getting out.
Now.
As soon as the elevator reached the ground floor, Jean dashed out, clutching the documents tightly against her chest. Her twisted ankle screamed with every step, but she couldn’t stop... not now. Not when she was so close to escaping.
The lobby was still lively with a few guests lingering from the gala. She kept her head low, her messy hair shielding her face. No one seemed to notice her trembling figure slipping through the side exit.
Once outside, the cold night air hit her like a slap, but it also brought a sense of clarity.
She had to disappear.
They wouldn’t stop. Tyler wouldn’t stop.
And her own family? They sold her out.
Jean bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, forcing herself not to cry. Not here.
Her phone.
She reached into her dress pocket... it was gone.
Her clutch was left behind in the hotel room.
Alone and barefoot... with no money and no phone. Just fear and a bundle of secrets in her arms.
She limped into the shadows of the side alley and sank behind a parked car, trying to breathe.
"Think, Jean," she whispered to herself.
Jean dragged her aching body along the dark, empty street. The pain in her ankle worsened with every step, but she kept going.
She had to.
She couldn’t stop... not when Tyler might already be sending people after her. Every shadow looked suspicious. Every noise made her flinch.
She raised her trembling hand, waving desperately at passing taxis. One. Two. Three. None of them stopped. As if she was invisible to the world.
And then... it started to rain.
Hard.
Heavy droplets soaked through her dress in seconds, clinging to her skin like ice. Her hair stuck to her face, and her body shivered, but her heart... her heart was colder than the storm around her.
No one was coming.
No one cared.
She was alone.
Utterly alone.
A car sped by, splashing dirty water on her legs. Jean stood frozen in place, staring at the road.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just end it? she thought bitterly. Step into the path of the next car and let it all be over.
