Chapter 150: The Bidding Ceremony (The Loser)

Chapter 150: The Bidding Ceremony (The Loser)

Even Jean was stunned. He wasn’t bidding anymore... he was annihilating.

Alex’s face twisted with rage. His lawyer leaned in, whispering in panic, no doubt warning him against such a rash decision.

Alex sat down hard, face pale.

"Going once... going twice..."

.

.

"Sold! To Mr. Logan Kingsley."

The air was thick with tension.

For a moment, even the whispers fell into silence as Logan placed his final bid... sharp, unshaken, and delivered with a casual authority that turned every head in the room.

The gavel dropped.

Polite applause echoed through the hall, but everyone knew this wasn’t a victory cheer.

This was the sound of Alex Adams being humiliated... publicly, and mercilessly.

Jean leaned over, whispering softly with a smile, "Tell me, Mr. Kingsley... was it worth 50 million to watch my brother’s ego bleed?"

Logan looked at her, heat in his gaze. "For hurting my wife? Every damn cent."

She flushed... not from embarrassment, but from something else. Something darker, warmer, more dangerous.

And for the first time in years, Jean Adams didn’t feel like her brother’s pawn anymore.

Jean’s heart thudded hard in her chest.

Not from the win.

But from him.

He hadn’t even looked her way when he placed the bid, yet something about the way he leaned back in his chair, calm and assured, made the blood in her veins ignite.

She didn’t realize she’d been holding her breath until Emma nearly slammed into her from the side.

"Oh my God, you guys did it!" Emma squealed, clutching Jean’s arm like a lifeline. "I ditched my date the second that gavel hit. Worth it!"

Jean couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped her lips... light, surprised, and warm.

Then Hannah practically launched herself across Logan’s arm, hugging him like a little girl clinging to her superhero brother. "You were amazing! I knew you’d win!"

Logan chuckled, ruffling her hair in return.

"Hey don’t do that! I’m not a kid Logan."

Beside them, Henry exhaled deeply, loosening his tie and running a hand over his forehead as if he’d just survived a battlefield. He didn’t speak, but the satisfied grin he sent toward Logan spoke volumes. Victory tastes sweeter when it is earned in silence.

Jean sat still.

She looked at all of them... so alive, so proud.

Then her eyes trailed to Logan.

He turned slightly toward her, as if sensing her gaze. And she did it... something she hadn’t done in a long time.

She smiled at him.

Not the cold, practiced smiles she gave to business partners or family dinners.

But something softer.

Genuine.

She placed her hand lightly on his forearm, the fabric of his suit warm beneath her palm. He didn’t speak... he only gave her a faint smirk in return, the kind that said I told you I would win this.

And then...

She looked up.

Across the sea of murmuring guests and glittering glasses, she saw him.

Alex.

Standing.

Rigid.

His jaw was set, hands clenched at his sides. His eyes met hers across the room, and in them was something she hadn’t seen in years.

Fury.

Not the childish tantrums of a man denied, but the storm of someone whose power had just slipped from his hands.

He turned without a word and stormed toward the hallway.

Jean’s fingers slipped from Logan’s arm.

Her blood ran cold... but her spine stayed straight.

This wasn’t fear.

This was clarity.

It was time.

She rose from her chair slowly, smoothing her dress, and began walking in the direction of the hallway. Each step was deliberate, controlled.

She had won the moment.

Now, she would win the confrontation.

The bidding ceremony was over.

Flutes of champagne floated through the hall. Guests murmured about the surprising win. Logan Kingsley had swept the floor with his final bid... cool, calculated, and commanding.

Alex Adams stood still in the hallway outside, his fists clenched so tight that his nails dug crescents into his palms.

He was humiliated.

Logan had taken the very property Alex had marked as a critical expansion for his newest luxury line. And worse... he had done it with Jean sitting right beside him, her injured arm resting lightly over his.

Mockery.

Disrespect.

Betrayal.

Every breath Alex took was coated in rage.

And then... heels clicked against the marble floor.

Jean turned the corner.

Her emerald dress shimmered under the chandeliers, but it was her expression that twisted the knife. Calm. Untouched. Victorious.

Their eyes met.

He didn’t wait.

"You think this was funny?" Alex’s voice sliced through the silence. "You came here just to humiliate me, didn’t you?"

Jean stopped walking, her brows raising slightly. "Don’t give yourself too much credit, Alex."

He took a step closer, the heat of his fury radiating. "Did you think showing up on Logan’s arm would make you look powerful? You think wearing a dress like that and pretending to be one of them erases who you are?"

Her lips curled into a cold smile. "It must really burn you... that I stood beside a man who actually protects me."

"Protect you?" he barked out a sharp laugh. "He bought you a property, Jean. That doesn’t make him a savior. It makes you a pawn."

She didn’t flinch.

Alex’s tone grew darker. "Tell me... did you whisper into his ear and ask him to outbid me? Is that how low you’ve fallen?"

Jean stepped forward now, matching his heat with her own fire.

"No, Alex. I didn’t ask him for anything," she said, voice steady. "He bid because he can. Because he’s better than you. Stronger than you. And he’s not afraid of you."

A vein pulsed in Alex’s neck.

"You’ve always needed someone to blame for your failure," she added. "You used to think it was our parents. Then it was me. And now it’s Logan. But maybe it’s just you, Alex."

He lurched forward... stopped just inches from her face.

"You think this little victory means you’re safe?" he growled. "You’re not. You never were."

But Jean didn’t blink. Her chin lifted.

"I’m not the one who should be worried anymore."

A moment passed. His breathing was ragged.

Then...

A voice behind them... calm, cool, laced with warning.

"She said what she had to say, Alex."
