Chapter 132: The Gruesome Night

Chapter 132: The Gruesome Night

"Dad, please!" Emma screamed again, voice cracking.

But Morris turned his head away, like the sight of Jean’s pain was an inconvenience.

"This incident must not leave this property," he said quietly, firmly. "Do you understand what this could do to our name?"

Emma’s mouth parted in shock. "Dad..."

"I won’t repeat myself. Take her to the hospital. Be discreet."

"You cold-hearted..." Emma bit back the rest of her scream, tears welling up.

Behind them, Alex stood with a smug smile on his face.

"You will pay for this," Emma growled at him, voice low and furious.

Just then, Hannah ran back... face wet with tears, her phone still in hand. "I called Logan," she whispered, breathless, "he’s on his way."

Without waiting, she slipped an arm under Jean’s uninjured side. "Let’s get her out of here."

Jean... half-dazed but upright... nodded weakly. "Get me... out of this hell."

Emma helped on the other side.

"Hannah," she ordered, "you drive. Now."

As the car doors slammed shut behind them, Emma barked at the staff, "Pack everything. Even the ashes. Every single car. Send it to Logan Kingsley’s estate."

But Hannah’s fingers fumbled with the keys.

Her brain refused to focus.

She blinked past the tears, shoved the key in, and the engine roared to life. She pulled out of the driveway like a bullet and only then, with the weight of the world crashing down, did she reach for her phone.

And as the car peeled out of the driveway, smoke still curling behind them, Jean looked back one last time.

Her old life was up in flames.

But she?

She wasn’t burned.

She was becoming something else.

Something more.

The tires screeched as Hannah swerved through traffic, hands white knuckled on the steering wheel.

Her heart thundered against her ribs. She had never driven like this before. Never been in a situation like this before. But this wasn’t about her.

Jean was slumped in the backseat... pale, breathing shallowly... Emma held onto her like she was trying to keep her tethered to life.

"Hannah..." she whispered weakly.

Hannah flicked her gaze to the rearview mirror, "Yes, I’m here! We’re almost there. Logan’s coming... he’s on his way, Jean!"

Jean managed a small nod, her voice rasping out, "Are you... okay? Did he... hurt you?"

But before Hannah could respond, Jean’s head lolled back.

"Jean?" Emma leaned closer. "Jean... hey! Jean!"

No response.

"NO, no no no... please... please wake up!" Emma cried, her voice cracking. "Don’t fall weak now, Jean! Don’t you dare...!"

She shook her gently, but Jean was already slipping... eyes closed, her breathing shallow and soft.

Emma cupped her cheeks, fighting the sting in her own eyes. "You survived worse, remember? You burned and didn’t scream. Don’t let go now..."

Beside them, Hannah sniffled hard, driving faster, wiping tears with the back of her sleeve. "We’re almost there. Hold on, Jean. Please."

But Jean was already deep in the dark.

The world behind her eyes quieted... like the fire was gone and now there was only cold.

Hannah’s trembling thumb hovered over a single contact.

Logan.

She pressed the call.

It rang once.

Twice.

Then... "Hannah?" His voice was worried and haste. As if he was running miles. "Everything okay? Did you all reach..."

"No!" she cried, voice cracking. "Jean... Jean’s hurt bad! I don’t know what to do."

Silence.

Just breathing.

Then his voice came back, lower. Tighter. Deadly serious.

"Where are you now?"

Hannah sniffled, trying to hold herself together as she glanced at the signs. "We’re heading down Mayfair Road, toward Crestwood. I am sharing my location... Logan, I don’t know what to do. She isn’t waking up."

"I’m coming. I’ll be there before you even pull in. Keep driving. Don’t stop. Don’t let her fall further." His voice cracked for a split second, and then... "Tell her I’m on my way. Tell her... tell her she’s not allowed to leave me yet."

Before Hannah could respond, the call ended.

She bit her lip, glanced into the rearview mirror.

Emma was trying to keep Jean conscious, gently shaking her arm. "No no no... Jean, stay with me. We’re almost there. Just hold on..."

Jean’s head lolled to the side.

Unmoving.

Hannah’s knuckles turned white on the steering wheel.

"Please be okay..." she whispered.

"C’mon, c’mon," Hannah whispered, glancing at the GPS. She had already sent Logan the live location. Come faster, please...

Darkness clung to Jean like smoke. But it wasn’t silent.

It was whispering.

Then screaming.

Then whimpering again.

Jean’s body... though motionless... twitched within the sheets of a bed, blood soaked sheets.

The night.

The one that never truly ended.

Jean clenched her aching stomach, her bruised body with blood oozing out from her core. She tried her best to move her body and stand.

Her bare feet hit the cold, unfamiliar floor of an unknown dorm room. Her limbs trembled violently, a searing ache clawing at her insides. The bed behind her was crumpled, stained in cruelty. The air still reeked of him.

Tyler.

She couldn’t scream.

Couldn’t cry.

She just moved.

The scattered clothes... hers, maybe, maybe not, she didn’t know but she needed it to cover herself from the cruelty, she wrapped them around herself. Like they could hide the damage. Like they could make her invisible.

She stumbled, one hand on the door frame, the other pressed to her abdomen as if trying to hold herself together.

The hallway outside the room was dark.

Empty.

Cold.

Each step she took was a war waged against her body. The pain in her belly screamed louder than her thoughts. The drug he’d slipped into her drink still blurred her vision... colors bleeding, shadows twisting. But she didn’t stop. If she stopped, he might return.

She wouldn’t survive it a second time. Or maybe tenth... she didn’t see it... but she felt the ramming even when darkness engulfed her.

Once out of the quarters... she breathed.

She walked until her body gave out, collapsing onto the cold ground of the campus quad.

"Jean!"

That voice...
