Chapter 78: Chapter 77
Chapter 77
In the newbie’s area, there was some safety equipment like foam, body equipment bags, kicking shields, gloves, and other things. In the junior’s space, there was no equipment, only a mat.
"Where’s for the senior level?"
"The senior level? In the cages." Lorna stated casually, but there was a bit of shiver in her voice.
Melisca noticed archery equipment at the far corner, near the benches. "They train archery too?"
"Yes. If you reach the junior level. You’ll be a senior if you pass everything. Which includes gun shooting and syringes."
"So, Rico was a senior?"
"Yes."
So, he had been against a supernatural on his own. "Without ABD?"
"With ABD, of course. Humans can never win over them with their natural abilities."
That’s a given fact.
Other people were entering the arena. Melisca slowly turned her body around to have a look at everything, even what was above them. She could see that there was a wide glass window above the three doors that connected to the tunnels. "What’s over there?" She wanted to use her vision, but she thought otherwise. She was certain the whole place had cameras. She can’t be reckless in using her abilities in such an open space.
"That’s where most higher-ups watch us over. They have bigger screens in there anyway to monitor everyone." Lorna started to step down from the platform, and she followed behind her.
There were other doors at the far right, beside the rows of benches. Signage at the top. ’Gun Point’. She bet it was the shooting room for gun training. Beside it were the restrooms and a girl’s shower. And to the other left corner of the arena was another door for the trainer’s lounge, another set of restrooms, and a shower room for boys.
It’s a good thing then that they have shower rooms in the training area.
"Uh, Liz, there’s the shower room for girls." Lorna pointed to where she was already looking. "You also have your own locker there. Your locker number was the same as your dorm and the bed. You know it in your card. And it has a biometric function. Just press your thumb or index finger. You can keep your keys there and cards securely. And it’s up to you to shower there or in the dorm. Do you want to take a look at your locker?"
"Sure." She complied. People were starting to gather and were staring in their direction.
"You’ll directly know if someone is a trainer. They wear blue uniforms with the same style as ours. And anyway, you can leave your soiled uniform in the shower. The cleaners will do the laundry and get it ready after the next morning."
So that’s why she was provided with two sets of uniforms. That was very convenient then. The place offers hotel-like services. Well, as Lorna said before, everyone deserves any luxury before they die. They were giving everyone nice treatment in exchange for their lives for the organization. That totally makes sense and was considerate of the management too.
Lorna led her to the locker room and found the place spacious as well. She said that no wristwatches were allowed during fighting training. She knew that, as she had been to a camp before.
The two of them waited until 7:30 at the nearest bench of the platform. Trainers started to gather, and everyone came forward. They stood up as well and approached the platform.
There were different groups gathered at the platform. She followed where Lorna went and stood beside her in a row.
She saw familiar faces she met yesterday. Lorna’s dad and Gea, the girl’s dorm warden. Her face looked a lot better. There was no more swelling at the side of her lip, and the bruise was invisible. Beside the two she already knew were another two trainers. They had names on their uniform. Daisy and Josh.
Her eyes widened as she froze on the spot. The guy could possibly recognize her because he was there when her mom called her name. Her body grew tensed as her eyes scanned the surroundings immediately for any threat once he knew who she was. Her mind was already calculating how she would escape if they jumped on her altogether. If they don’t carry any of their chemical weapons, then it would be easier for her to fight back.
Melisca stared intensely at the man named Josh. Of course, how could she ever forget his face and name? It was imprinted clearly on her mind ever since that day, who hurt and betrayed her mom. It was a good thing her hands were at the back. She was clenching her fists tightly, which turned her knuckles white. Her fingers even hurt from the force she was trying to contain in herself.
Her lips were pursed in a tight line. She didn’t notice that her teeth had pierced her lips until she tasted blood in her mouth. She reeks of absolute anger and hatred.
The trainers were announcing something that she didn’t pay any attention to. Her mind and heart were so preoccupied with the burning wrath inside her that she couldn’t understand a thing as words flew out of their mouths.
Lorna glanced at her. She noticed Liz was too stiff and there was something off with the woman. She was looking too intently at their trainer. She touched her elbow to Liz’s to get her attention. She wasn’t even blinking.
Melisca felt Lorna’s light touch on her. She withdrew her eyes from the guy and looked at the girl beside her. She tried to soften her gaze when she turned to Lorna. "What?" She snapped.
Lorna moved closer to her and whispered. "Are you okay? You seem like wanted to bury someone."
Ugh. This girl was too observant of me. Or am I that obvious? She laughed silently at Lorna’s comment because she got it right. She wanted to bury the man alive.
"And for the return of my only daughter," Lawrenz stated making the two girls who were not listening, snapped their attention back to the front. Everyone in their area eyed in their direction.
They stood still, caught red-handed that they were not paying attention.
"I hope this time you will make me proud." Lawrenz smiled sweetly at his daughter.
Lorna’s hands were fidgeting behind her. She returned her father’s gesture with a nod and awkward smile but she still held her head high.
Melisca bit her tongue not to laugh at the girl’s dilemma, but her mood changed when the guy she loathed the most in front of them, spoke and looked her way.
"We indeed had a new beauty in the house. Melisca Lorwey." He smiled politely at her and all eyes were on her way. She breathed heavily as she forced herself to nod and avoided to look at him directly. Her eyes would give away the hatred she felt. She clenched them close for a second to get a hold of herself. She could never attack him in front of all the people.
Not now, Melisca. Hold on a little longer. You’ll definitely have a chance with him.
She was breathing quickly for trying to calm her emotions. And appeared to not know her at all. Why? How can it be? Did he forget the name of the hybrid they were after? How possible is that? Or was he pretending? If he was, he’s a dam great actor. But she stayed on her toes in case it was all a staged act to reveal and capture her in front of the audience. Her eyes roamed around again for any suspicious acts. But everybody was doing their own thing. The other group far from them was discussing their agenda for the day.
"Ms. Lorwey." Lawrenz called for her.
Her head remained bowed down. She was trying to get what everyone far from them was discussing. Anyone could be talking about capturing her. But she caught some whispers about compliments of her looks and body instead.
Lorna noticed Liz wasn’t responding and she was standing still by her side. She lightly brushed her elbow to the woman. "Hey." Liz raised her eyes at her and she tilted her head to the front.
"Ms. Lorwey, are you okay?" Gea was the one to ask the question. She was tapping her foot, and both hands propped to her waist. Her stance was of a lazy teacher. She looked bored from the rest of her co-trainers.
"Yes." Melisca replied.
"Pay attention. You’re a newbie. Pretty faces don’t have any advantage here." The woman who had Daisy in her uniform spoke with bitterness in her tone. She was even snarling at Melisca.
Okay. That was an outright dislike there. Anyone could tell. But Melisca just gave her a tired look. She doesn’t care who likes or dislikes her anyway. It was none of her concern.
Daisy continued to glare at her. What did she even do to the woman? It was the first time they met.
"Alright. Melisca Lorwey." Lawrenz mumbled as he opened the folder in his hand and scanned it. "Lorna brought you here which wasn’t right because you should be waiting with the rest of the new batch. But I see why the management considered you." The other three trainers by his side-stepped closer to take a look at the file he opened.
"Oh. This is quite interesting." Gea’s face lit up as she eyed Melisca with a nod of appreciation.
"May I test her capabilities?" Daisy asked and her three companions agreed.
"Go easy on her." Josh stated.
Lawrenz closed the folder and brought it down to his side. "Ms. Lorwey, we would like to see your skills against Coach Daisy here." He announced.
Melisca turned to Lorna. "What happens if I take down a trainer?" She whispered.
Lorna’s eyes widened in surprise. "Are you that confident?"
She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "Just what if."
The girl grinned at her, excitement in her eyes. "I’m afraid I’ll be left behind. You’ll be at the senior level instantly. Can fight in the cage. And if you’re not ready for that, tone down your awesomeness."
She snorted at Lorna’s words. Well, she was not there to procrastinate things.
