Chapter 418: Devoted
Chapter 418: Devoted
Xavier, who had woken up after a short nap, actually stayed awake just to make sure Luca was okay.
He didn’t move—just kept watching, still and quiet. He held Luca close and soaked in the sight of his little chipmunk curled up against him, cheeks soft, lashes long, breathing steady. Luca nuzzled against his chest in his sleep, the corners of his lips twitching now and then like he was dreaming something absurd. Probably food-related. It was perfect.
And if it were up to him, Luca wouldn’t have to move today.
Or tomorrow.
He’d just sleep, eat, and recover.
Unfortunately, not even the Imperial Crown Prince could control one of the most in-demand people in the empire: their own busy, twitchy, easily flustered, sometimes stabby spouse.
Just like how he’s stirring in his arms right now, as if he could read his mind.
Luca woke up like a changed man.
Like a man who had come to be beaten up by Grandmaster Tao, only to come back again because he didn’t think it would be that bad. Pretty much like he did months ago when he didn’t know any better.
Only now, he woke up next to a man who was clearly staring at him.
Luca blinked at the figure before him.
And bright blue eyes stared back.
And as if on cue, the newly awakened guide blushed immediately before trying to roll over in panic or surprise. Or probably both.
Only to feel it everywhere.
"Ugh," Luca croaked. "Xavier...I-I feel like a noodle."
His voice was hoarse. Wrecked. Absolutely tragic.
He blinked again.
Then remembered why he sounded like that.
His entire face went crimson.
Xavier stifled a laugh, but his shoulders shook. Of all the things he would hear after that night, he didn’t expect that. "Good morning to you, too. And I’m sorry that you feel like that. It’s my fault."
Pause.
"But on the bright side...at least, you look like a very shiny noodle."
"...Huh? What do you mean?" asked the confused and overcooked noodle.
The prince figured this would happen and had prepared for the inevitable; he reached to the side and handed over a small desk mirror.
Luca took one look.
And gasped.
His hair was soft and a little tousled from sleep, falling gently around his face. His skin glowed faintly, smooth and even, and the light marks that lingered on his neck and chest only made the contrast more striking.
He sparkled. Literally. Like someone had wiped him down with a soft cloth or allowed him to sleep the whole day.
And that couldn’t be right.
Because for someone who didn’t get enough hours of sleep and someone who surely wouldn’t be able to walk straight, he just looked too suspiciously well-rested.
"What...happened?!"
He turned to Xavier, wide-eyed. If one could (and really should) ignore all those red marks from earlier, then he really looked odd for someone whose muscles were screaming for justice.
Xavier, who had a feeling this would happen, smiled knowingly.
"It was after you fell asleep. I didn’t want you to wake up sore and sweaty, so I gave you a bath. Except—" he paused, amused, "you started guiding. In your sleep."
Well, that was the summary that his little guide would be able to accept, but really, it was more interesting, and he thought it was something he’d have to tell him in the end.
So he did.
It had been early this morning, just after Luca had mumbled something about "next time" and promptly passed out. Xavier had smiled at that—soft, vulnerable, and still greedy. He really was adorable.
Xavier didn’t want him waking up sticky, hurting, and uncomfortable, so he’d carefully scooped him up and carried him to the bathroom. Unfortunately, the military standard-issue shower wasn’t exactly ideal for post-coital cleanup. No tub. No steam setting. Just one high-pressure nozzle and a vaguely judgmental drain.
Still, he did his best. He adjusted the water, tested the temperature twice, and held Luca close under the stream while gently washing him off. The plan had been simple: clean him up, check for injuries, and tuck him back into bed like the treasure he was.
But of course, Luca had his own ideas.
Halfway through cleaning him, Xavier had felt it—a familiar, golden thread of energy pressing softly against him. He blinked. Looked down. And sure enough, Luca’s brows were furrowed even in sleep, his mouth barely moving as his spiritual energy brushed against Xavier’s core.
The little fox was guiding.
In his sleep.
And it wasn’t even subtle. His body leaned into Xavier more, his temperature rising ever so slightly as those gentle pulses of power warmed every nerve Xavier had as if asking for permission to come in.
He’d stood there under the water, one hand holding Luca close, the other gently trying to clean him up, carefully pressing his fingers in his wife’s behind to help ease out the mess he’d left inside. He was trying to be efficient and kept a straight face to avoid his desires from mounting again. So when that guiding energy brushed his core mid-cleanse, he didn’t know whether to groan or laugh.
Maybe both.
But gods, even asleep, it seemed like his little guide was devoted.
So Xavier had just held him tighter and let it happen, and maybe later they could get a laugh out of it.
After all, by the time Luca truly fell into deeper sleep again, soft and spent in his arms, Xavier had already decided: he was going to remember this for the rest of his life.
Only, he figured it was going to be a lot of shock and embarrassment first before they got to laugh at something like this.
True enough, for when the prince finished his re-telling, Luca’s palm flew towards his mouth.
The flustered heir couldn’t believe it, although it’d happened before; he didn’t think he’d be this shameless, siphoning energy from Xavier, even after all that!
So his mouth opened. Closed. Then opened again. Not knowing what to say, but knowing that if he heard more, his little heart might not survive.
However, Xavier didn’t resist. Instead, He just gave that hand a kiss. And then—
He licked the center of Luca’s palm.
Luca short-circuited.
"!!!"
He’s really a wolf!
One who takes care of you and has some really nice abs.
But surely a wolf!
