Chapter 92. Kun Peng Ruins
Chapter 92: 92. Kun Peng Ruins
Kun-pengs are massive beasts that look like hybrids of fish and birds. They tend to have fish-like bodies, but their pectoral fins have been replaced by bird-like wings, their mouths are bird-like beaks, and their caudal fins basically look like fish fins, but placed horizontally, like whale flukes, and resemble bird tail feathers. Additionally, their dorsal and pelvic fins look similar to their tail fins.
Kun Peng are rare mythical creatures like dragons and phoenixes. That’s why the news of the inheritance made a big wave across surrounding territories. Many adventurers, merchants, sect disciples, and even pirates are heading towards it.
There is a rumour that a guy got a Kun Peng feather, which was later sold for 10 million Lydia. Another rumour is that the trials inside the ruins are very easy, so easy that one might finish them with their eyes closed. Yet another rumour says that whoever gets the inheritance receives a Kun Peng egg.
Rumours are always exaggerated, but many people believe them. So, everyone is heading towards the ruins.
This vast world is still filled with mystery. Why is most of the world covered in sea? Why are there three moons? Why are there two different energies: Mana and Aura?
Many people don’t know the answers, but that doesn’t mean there are no answers. Only by travelling the sea and the vast ocean can one find answers and opportunities.
Tyler is the same. He has never seen a man-sized shrimp before. He stood on the deck of the boat and looked at these wonderful creatures. On the side of the ship, some men were sitting with fishing rods. Tyler wondered if they could even catch a fish on a moving boat. He didn’t know anything about fishing, so he was confused.
"Tell me about the ruins," Tyler asked Moria, a friend he made on the ship. Moria was also travelling to the ruins to find opportunities. They met three days ago when Tyler boarded, and they hit it off well.
"Is this your first time travelling the sea?" Moria asked. He was not surprised. Even in this world, which is mostly covered by sea, there are people who have never seen the sea before.
The sea is the most mysterious place. It can be heartwarming, lonely, dangerous, or adventurous. In ancient times—no, even now—many beings wanted to leave behind their inheritance. It’s like forming a karma with future generations. Some beings had their own floating islands, which might have been destroyed by catastrophes.
Some ruins emerge when the disabled floating stones of floating islands reactivate and float the whole ruins up.
And there is a rumour that mythical creatures just lift up ruins from below because they felt bored.
Some ruins are tombs of ancient beings, preserved by arrays, and emerge when they sense that a suitable person is nearby.
"This Kun Peng one is probably the third type. I heard there are some trials in it," Moria explained everything he knew.
Tyler noted these down mentally. "You mean there is already a suitable person near the ruins and that person will get the inheritance?"
"It might not be a person; it might even be a fish," Moria said. He then told Tyler a small story.
Long ago, a ruin emerged in the Black Sea. Many were afraid to go into the final part of the ruins because they were terrified of previous trials. So, they decided to send a fish first for scouting. But the fish got the inheritance, transformed into a master-level monster, and disappeared.
"The bait became the chosen one. That doesn’t mean the opportunity is only for the chosen one. There was this particular clan where people opened their ancestor’s ruins using their blood power, but the one who snatched the opportunity was an outsider. Life is like that; you have to snatch it before someone else does," Moria said.
Tyler quietly looked at the sea while listening to the stories. He felt so calm.
Suddenly, a man flew out of the ship screaming. Another man, who was sitting on the edge of the ship with a fishing rod, swung his hand and hooked the man, bringing him back to the ship. He was one of the ship’s guards.
Tyler and Moria turned their heads towards the direction the flying man came from. Tyler’s mouth twitched—it was Lily Gomes.
"How dare you accuse me of cheating at gambling?" she asked.
Tyler immediately analysed that with Lily Gomes’ skill, she should have observed everyone’s facial expressions and, with small talk, correctly guessed what was on their minds, using it to gamble against them.
One of the opponents must have accused her, which made her angry.
"What a brute woman," Moria murmured.
Lily Gomes turned her head and glared at Moria, but then her face changed, and she walked towards them.
"Huh... Is she coming towards me? What if she suddenly proposes marriage? Sigh... It happens every time," Moria said.
Tyler’s mouth twitched again. He decided not to get too close to Moria.
"Hello, I am Mo—" Moria began to smile.
But Lily ignored him and stood before Tyler. She then dragged him away. Moria’s jaw almost dropped in disbelief and astonishment. He gave a thumbs up to Tyler.
"White, after entering the trial, you are on your own. Take this one-time usable attack charm. It has the power of a 2-star Elite Warrior." She gave him a star-shaped charm.
Tyler’s eyes lit up. He only had novice-level charms. He was also moved by her generosity. Tyler thanked her and happily went to his room.
He took a small vial of blood, copied it, and then poured it on the mask. After pouring a lot, he kept the mask. He was still curious about the mask’s power.
Then he took the attack charm and copied it. He made multiple copies and placed them inside his dress.
After he went back to sleep, the same thing happened. The mask glowed and tried to curse Tyler. But a ghostly figure emerged within Tyler and took a bite. It ate it happily and even burped.

The following day, Tyler saw a big ship with a skull flag. He understood that it was a pirate ship. Pirates are mostly known as sea robbers. If this ship didn’t have powerful people in it, they would have already tried to rob them.
"Some low-level pirates," Moria murmured.
"You know, these pirates are not even qualified to be called pirates. Only those with bounties are real pirates," Moria said with admiration.
Tyler was speechless. Is having a bounty a good thing?
"Who is the one issuing the bounty?" Tyler asked.
"Bounties are given by separate organisations like sects, academies, kingdoms, or even villages. But the real pirates are the ones who get bounties from the Federation." Moria’s eyes shined.
"What’s a fed—" Before Tyler could even ask, the whole ship shook before it stopped. Tyler and others looked at what happened.
A large cave in the middle of the sea, floating on the water. The cave looked like a small mountain aimlessly floating on the sea. The cave emitted a strange vibration which made the surrounding sea waters tremble.
There were lots of ships around the cave. These ships stood at a distance, the same distance as the ship Tyler was on.
"What are you waiting for? Let’s go," Lily Gomes suddenly appeared and said. Tyler bid farewell to Moria and went with Lily. He might never meet Moria again.
"Just like the people we meet in life, they won’t stay forever. Cherish the friendship while it lasts," an old man sighed and said. Both Lily and Tyler were baffled.
"Oh, my bad. I was having a monologue," the old man smiled.
"You should have a heart attack instead," Lily Gomes said and disappeared with Tyler. The old man was dumbfounded.
"Who was that?" Tyler asked.
"I don’t know. The world is vast, and you will meet a weirdo everywhere you turn," Lily Gomes said seriously.
Tyler turned his head towards Lily Gomes.
"Why are you looking here? Look that way. The world is that way," she immediately said.
Many people landed at the entrance of the ruins. There were many who had opened temporary stalls to sell things.
"Even if they don’t get the inheritance, there are many treasures inside. People find some weird stuff and sell it here," Lily Gomes explained.
Soon, they reached the entrance. It was a huge dark cave. Even though the sun was shining without any clouds in the sky, Tyler couldn’t see inside. It was as if the whole cave blocked the sunlight.
"After you enter inside, try to pass the trials. If you are lucky, you might get meridian mending pills. If you don’t get that, see if you can get any of these." Lily Gomes instructed him and gave him a list that contained the names of materials and treasures that might help him repair his body.
Tyler took a deep breath and walked inside.
