Chapter 45: Chapter 45

Outside the entrance of V Resort, both Avery’s car and Alexander’s luxury vehicle were parked. Alexander, ever the gentleman, asked, "Miss Carter, would you mind if I ride with you and you give me a lift?"

Avery glanced at Alexander’s car, her mind filled with questions. She thought, "Mathew’s car is the stuff of legend—a vehicle worth billions, rumored to be indestructible even by a truck collision. So why is he opting to ride in my car instead of his own?"

Louis, ever quick to read the room, smoothly explained, "Miss Carter, Mr. Moran had a few drinks earlier, so it’s not convenient for him to drive. How about he rides with you while I take care of driving his car and escorting your family?"

Avery thought it made sense, and remembering that she’d had a little red wine herself, took a hangover pill from her bag and popped it into her mouth.

"That works," Arthur quickly said. "I’ll ride with Josie in Avery’s car." As her brother, he instinctively felt that this too-handsome Alexander might not have the best intentions. He needed to keep an eye on things.

Avery nodded. "Alright. Mom, Dad, you can ride in the car with Louis."

Wesley and Claire exchanged a quick glance, subtly sizing up Alexander before agreeing.

"Sure."

It was clear that Alexander’s intentions weren’t entirely straightforward, but he seemed respectful and wasn’t like the other wealthy types who were at the party. As long as Avery didn’t mind, they saw no need to interfere.

As soon as Avery got into the driver’s seat, Alexander casually opened the passenger door, slid in, and buckled up. Arthur shot him a discreet glare, thinking, "How does this guy move so fast?" Reluctantly, he got into the back seat with Josie, silently vowing, "I’m watching you—don’t even think about trying anything with Avery."

Once everyone was buckled in, Avery started the car.

The drive was smooth and steady. Alexander didn’t make small talk. Instead, he quietly observed the car’s interior. The upholstery felt luxurious, almost like genuine leather, but he knew it wasn’t. Taking advantage of Avery’s focus on driving, he discreetly pulled out a small knife and lightly ran it along the seat and side panel near his right leg. A faint scratch appeared but quickly smoothed out, leaving no trace.

Next, he took out a lighter, shielding it from view with his body and the seat back, and carefully applied the flame to the same area. A slight scorch mark appeared where the flame touched. But after he extinguished the lighter, he simply wiped the spot with his hand, and the mark vanished completely, leaving the surface flawless. He thought, "This really is ’skywrought.’"

Alexander was stunned. He glanced at Avery, even more intrigued. "Who exactly is she, to be able to afford such luxury—using ’skywrought’ to outfit her car?"

This material, known for being water-resistant, fireproof, cut-proof, radiation-resistant, and maintaining a constant temperature, was V Group’s proprietary technology. Its performance was so advanced that it was considered to be ahead of current scientific capabilities, earning it the nickname "skywrought" in the industry.

"Skywrought" wasn’t yet mass-produced. The limited supply was primarily reserved for government use in aerospace, military manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The small remainder was managed exclusively by V Group and wasn’t available for sale—no one could even negotiate for it. The only way for him to get his hands on "skywrought" was by securing exclusive agent rights from V Group, which would then give him a chance to negotiate with V Group’s mysterious owner.

As for who that owner was, nobody knew. The person never made public appearances, and since V Group wasn’t listed on the stock market, their identity remained a secret. Rumor had it that V Group’s sole major shareholder was a young individual who wielded absolute control over everything at the company. Industry insiders often compared Alexander to this elusive figure, describing them as legendary rivals. Alexander was eager to meet this enigmatic owner of V Group, but he had no idea when that opportunity might come.

While he quietly observed Avery, Arthur was discreetly watching him—and growing increasingly frustrated. He thought, "Why does this Alexander keep sneaking glances at Avery?" Annoyed, he sent a message to a group chat: [Someone’s coveting Avery.]

The chat immediately blew up.

[Who? Send pics and info.]

[That man looks pretty good, though—definitely the kind that could charm girls easily. You’d better keep an eye on Avery.]

[Wait, is that Alexander?! He’s no pushover. If he’s approaching Avery, he’s got a motive. Be extra careful.]

[Handle it smartly. Don’t let Avery feel like we’re overstepping or controlling her. But let’s not worry too much—Avery’s sharp and well-traveled. We can’t treat her like some clueless kid.]

Arthur replied with a salute emoji: [Don’t worry, I’ve got my eye on her.]

After a moment’s hesitation, he decided to briefly mention what had happened earlier with the Harper family and Murphy family. The chat exploded again.

[In situations like that, check with Avery first. If she’s fine, just walk away. There’s no need to deal with those people politely...]

[You should’ve put them in their place on the spot.]

[Lucas and Andrew, right? Got it. I’ll remember those names.]

Caught up in the conversation with his friends, Arthur didn’t notice that the car had already stopped.

When he finally looked up, Alexander had already reached the driver’s side and was gallantly opening the door for Avery. Arthur thought, "This is infuriating! Opening the car door for Avery should be my job as her brother, not something left to a guy with who-knows-what intentions." Frustrated, he punched the car seat, feeling like he’d just lost out on a golden opportunity.

Avery stepped out of the car and looked up, taking in the sight of the building in front of her—a place with understated design, artistic elegance, and timeless charm.

"Where are we?"

"This is Cloud Club, a private one owned by the Moran family," Alexander explained. "The dishes here are all exclusive creations. I hope you and your family enjoy them."

"Oh," Avery responded, rubbing her stomach. "I am getting a little hungry."

Louis, having just parked, walked over with a smile. "Miss Carter, we’re still waiting for one more guest. Once she arrives, we’ll head upstairs."

Arthur, now on high alert, asked, "Who else are we waiting for?" He was already skeptical about these rich types. If Alexander had invited another one of this kind, Arthur was ready to mentally deduct points.

Just as he finished speaking, a sleek sports car glided up and parked right in front of them.
