The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 237
Chapter 237: Chapter 237
The report was from eight years ago. The content was roughly like this. In Rosemont High School, the sophomore, Zayn Carter from Class Two, was gloomy and not much of a talker. He had a long-standing crush on his classmate, Elsie Morin, the cheerleader. However, Elsie was focused on her studies and did not respond to Zayn’s closeness and feelings. Zayn secretly followed Elsie and found that Elsie often went home with Ben York from the same school. Zayn was jealous.
On Saturday night, Elsie rehearsed the Independence Day Gala till late. Zayn offered to escort Elsie home, and Elsie agreed.
On the way home, Elsie met Ben and the others. Ben said they could walk Elsie home and told Zayn to go home first. Elsie also said she didn’t need Zayn to escort her home, but Zayn refused and had a conflict with Ben. Amidst the argument, Zayn impulsively took out a knife and stabbed it at Ben. When Ben was snatching the knife, the knife accidentally cut Zayn’s arm. Zayn completely lost control and stabbed the knife into Ben’s abdomen.
Ben was seriously injured, but not only did Zayn refuse to apologize and compensate, but he also said the knife belonged to Ben and that Ben stabbed him first. While Zayn was snatching the knife, other boys came to help Ben, causing Ben to bump into the blade in the chaos. However, Elsie and the three boys present could testify that what Ben said was true and that Zayn was lying. At last, Zayn dropped out of school because of the accident, leaving a stain on his life.
At the end of the news report, it advised high school students to study hard and not fall in love at a young age.
After reading it, Avery told Alexander, "Sorry, I don’t want to watch the movie now. I want to deal with Zayn’s matter."
Alexander also finished reading the news and nodded. "Alright, we’ll watch it next time."
Then, he asked, "Is there anything you need me to do?"
Avery shook her head. "Not for the time being. I can handle this kind of thing."
Alexander waited for a few seconds. Seeing Avery had no intention of asking him to stay, he said, "Then I should get going now."
Avery waved her hand. "Okay, I’ll call you when I’m done."
Alexander suppressed the disappointment in his heart and said politely, "Then, goodbye, Miss Carter."
He turned around and walked out of the crowd. He did not leave immediately. Instead, he entered a dark corner and continued to watch.
Avery squeezed through the crowd as she made a call. She walked to Zayn and said indifferently, "Ma’am, I’m Mr. Carter’s assistant. I’ve contacted Mr. Carter’s lawyer, Mr. Ryan Marshall, regarding your accusation. Ryan will produce strong evidence to prove Mr. Carter’s innocence. I hope you can quickly get a lawyer. We’ll see you in court then!"
Those words were like cold water poured into boiling oil, causing quite a stir.
The discussion and noise at the scene could almost overturn the mall.
"The news has reported it. This woman dares to take responsibility for her words. It doesn’t sound like it’s fake. However, Zayn dares to get a lawyer and even go to court. It doesn’t seem he’s lying. It’s difficult to judge."
"Compared to the news in the newspaper, I believe in the statement in the court more. I’ll be on Zayn’s side."
"Nowadays, I’ve seen too many people sadfishing and playing the victim. I don’t believe anyone who doesn’t dare to go to court..."
"You guys are too naive! Zayn is a newbie in the industry. To take on such an important role in a big production and be brought around by the director, he has a backer behind the scenes! It’s not a problem for the connections behind him to crush ordinary people..."
Compared to the onlookers, the voices of the reporters and media were different.
"Ryan Marshall? F**k, with his help, there’s a high chance that Zayn will win this lawsuit..."
"Zayn managed to get Ryan to defend him? It looks like he does have powerful connections. I have to dig into it..."
"As a senior, I want to remind everyone not to write randomly before investigating the truth. Otherwise, if you become Ryan’s target, you won’t be able to bear the consequences..."
Zayn remained unmoved in the face of all kinds of voices. He waited a moment before speaking into the microphone.
"Let’s leave this matter to the law. If the court finds I’m lying, I’ll quit the entertainment industry forever and pay double the compensation to the victim back then."
Zayn looked directly at Kerise. "Leave your number. I’ll get my lawyer to contact you. I’ll see you in court then."
Kerise was forced to take two steps back by Zayn’s sharp and determined gaze. She didn’t dare to look Zayn in the eye, and she swallowed the harsh words that were about to come out of her mouth.
"C-Court is fine. I’m not afraid of you!" Kerise puffed out her chest and showed her phone to Zayn. "Remember, this is my phone number. Get your lawyer to contact me quickly."
"You mustn’t run away after the show. Don’t even think about threatening me. If I got stabbed or disappeared like the victim back then, it’s you!"
"I’m not running," Zayn said calmly. "I hope you won’t join forces to slander me like those people back then."
After saying that, Zayn ignored Kerise and looked at the direction of the crew.
"Mr. Levine, I’m sorry to have caused you and the crew trouble."
"I’ll prove my innocence. I won’t implicate the film."
The main creators participating in the movie tour could tell Zayn had a backer. Moreover, he appeared so calm and was a battle hero. They believed such a thing couldn’t defeat Zayn. So they all came to comfort him, to show that they believed in him.
Kerise stopped targeting Zayn and sneered. She walked up to the reporters and media personnel and explained the case to them in detail.
Zayn whispered in Avery’s ear, "There’s a dinner party after the movie tour. Steve intends to introduce me to a few important figures in the industry. I don’t want to let him down."
He paused and smiled. "You don’t have to worry about me. I’m not that fragile mentally."
Avery also smiled. "Alright, when you’re free, we’ll meet Ryan together."
Zayn hugged Avery gently to thank her and left with the director.
Avery watched Zayn’s figure disappear and walked to the parking lot. She was about to get into the car when she saw a small van speeding toward and stopping before her.
Brandon got out of the car and waved at Lindsay, who was driving. He looked at Avery and said, "Avery, I saw you and Zayn on the live broadcast just now. You did well. I happened to be doing something nearby, so I came for you. When are you going to meet Ryan? I’ll go with you."
Avery smiled and opened the car door. "Brandon, please get in."
After they were seated, Avery asked, "I’m talking to Ryan on the phone. How much do you know about what happened to Zayn?"
"I know it very well. I know it better than Zayn," Brandon sneered. "I’ll tell you the truth now. If I don’t make Kerise and Elsie suffer and pay, I swear to God that I’ll go to..."
’No way! Forget it. No matter what, I can’t go to hell,’ Brandon thought.
Hence, he changed his words. "I’ll die alone without company."
