The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 230
Chapter 230: Chapter 230
Match the status of a hundred-year-old wealthy family like the Morans. However, she did not look around the mansion to admire how gorgeous the place was. Instead, she used her sharp detective instincts to find the scene of Maggie’s accident 15 years ago. If there was a chance, Avery still wanted to find the killer behind the case and bring justice to Maggie. There was a glass elevator on the first floor.
In order to handle everything in a timely manner, Alexander led them directly to the third floor in the elevator. They passed through a few 100-feet-long corridors, stopped at the door of a bedroom, and pushed open the door. The interior was about 60 square yards, and the decor and layout were top-notch. Nicolas was lying on a luxurious bed and receiving IV treatment.
Avery stood by the bed. After looking at Nicolas’ pale and unconscious face for a while, she performed a general physical examination. Then, she picked up his test report and browsed through it carefully. At the same time, her assistant took samples of Nicolas’ hair, blood, saliva, urine, and other specimens to conduct more in-depth bedside examinations. The Moran family’s private doctor stood at the side and gave Avery a disapproving look.
After reading the medical reports, Avery said, "When the infusion is complete, I’ll shave the patient and perform physical therapy," and tried to find out where he’d gone wrong.
The private doctor immediately objected, "Mr. Moran was poisoned. Physical therapy is simply useless for him. Instead, you might cause other side effects..." Avery said calmly, "I’m responsible for the patient. If anything happens to him, I’ll bear all the consequences." The private doctor said angrily, "Mr. Moran is an influential man. Can you bear such responsibility?"
Without waiting for Avery to speak, Alexander said coldly, "Dr. Preston, when my father lost his ability to speak and move, I became head of the Moran family. If you question Dr. Annie again and interfere with my father’s treatment, I’ll throw you out now."
Alexander glared at Ivan with an intense, scary gaze and made the sharp comment with a stern tone. Ivan immediately answered obediently, "Yes." Avery stood up. "I’ll go downstairs and walk around. Call me when Mr. Moran’s infusion is complete." Alexander immediately said, "Let me show you around."
Alexander led Avery around the third floor. "This is Farrah’s room. That’s Loreen’s room."
Avery was curious. "Why aren’t they here for such an important family matter?"
Alexander said, "I don’t get along with Farrah, and she can’t do anything to me. Unless it is necessary, she usually won’t show up when I’m around. Moreover, she cares a lot about her reputation. She doesn’t show up when we have guests and usually sleeps early. My daughter was forbidden from coming near me."
Avery nodded and did not ask further questions.
Once they were done with the third floor, they went to the second floor and finally proceeded to the first floor.
Then, they strolled around the back garden.
The Moran family mansion occupied an area of more than 2,300 square yards. It had a swimming pool and a small airstrip.
Avery stood beside the swimming pool and looked up at the roof of the main building.
She wondered if that was the spot where Maggie fell from. After all these years, she was still interested to know if the killer was alive. Her cell phone rang. Her assistant informed her that Mr. Moran’s IV infusion was complete.
Avery collected her thoughts.
The assistant returned to Nicolas’ room. She instructed her assistant, "Take off the patient’s clothes and apply soothing cream to his whole body." Once the cream application was done, Avery took out a shaving kit and gave Nicolas a full-body shave.
The soothing cream was quickly absorbed, and Nicolas’ body slowly heated up. He sweated profusely, soaking the bedsheets completely and continuously emitting a strange smell. Avery wiped off the sweat with a towel and continued to shave Nicolas.
After nearly two hours, she was done shaving Nicolas, and a trace of color finally appeared on his face.
Avery prescribed some medicine and told her assistant, "Give this to the patient once his temperature goes down. I’ll be in the next room, resting for half an hour before I finally perform physical therapy on him."
By the time Avery was done with the physical therapy, it was two o’clock in the morning.
Avery instructed her assistant to take care of Nicolas and then went to the room next door to sleep.
As soon as Avery woke up, a maid told her excitedly, "Mr. Moran is awake, but he can’t speak for the time being."
Avery was not surprised at all. When she got to Nicolas’ room, she noticed some color had returned to his face. He was just a little weak and listless.
She looked at the latest test report. It stated, "Continue taking the new medicine I prescribed with the medicine I previously prescribed, and you’ll be able to get out of bed in a week. I also suggest you abstain from alcohol and sex for half a year. Don’t stay up late and tire yourself out. Otherwise, your body will give out and you’ll collapse. – Dr. Preston."
Everyone looked at each other. The prescription seemed fine, but making Nicolas quit those habits was worse than letting him suffer in jail.
Avery did not care about this. She packed her equipment and said, "My consultation fee is 2 million dollars. Please pay the bill as soon as possible."
The butler immediately handed over a check respectfully. "Mrs. Moran has prepared a sumptuous breakfast and invites you to eat with her. Please do her the honor."
Avery was a little surprised that Nicolas’ second wife actually wanted to treat her to breakfast. However, she left without any hesitation.
She looked at Alexander with an indifferent expression, then took the check, put it in her pocket, and said, "I still have something to do, so I won’t be able to join her for breakfast."
Just as she came out of the elevator, she heard an extremely cold and pleasant woman’s voice behind her. "Dr. Annie, please wait."
Avery turned around and saw the woman who called out to her. She could not help but be slightly stunned—not because of how beautiful the woman was, but because of the long and slightly thick shawl she was wearing in the middle of summer. It wasn’t really hot and stuffy in the room, but was there a need for this outfit? Avery pondered. Immediately, she felt that something was wrong with Farrah.
Farrah had an amazing figure. Why were her shoulders slumped when she was standing upright? Why were her hands hanging so low and not moving at all? Avery wondered. Ordinary people might not notice such a subtle abnormality, but Avery was a top doctor and knew the structure and details of the human body like the back of her hand. She always noticed any abnormality in someone’s posture and demeanor. Nothing ever went unnoticed by her. Avery quickly realized something, and her pupils dilated.
"Are Farrah’s hands... crippled? Does she not have the strength to lift them on her own?" Avery thought.
