The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 213
Chapter 213: Chapter 213
After two failed attempts, Anabel didn’t know whether to be relieved or upset. She looked at Juliet.
"You heard it, too. Any suggestions?"
After saying that, Anabel suddenly felt resentful, and her tone turned angry.
"I listened to your suggestion and gave up my position at the headquarters to be the general manager here."
After some silence, Juliet took a stack of photos from her bag and placed them on the table.
"Miss Powell, I can’t be sure if Joy and Avery are related to Mr. Moran, but I’ve discovered something interesting. Look at these photos. Do they look alike?"
Anabel sized up the photos. Each one was a comparison of Joy and Avery—faces, side profiles, backs, height, leg length, chests, waists, hips, eyebrows, etc. There were also detailed comparison data. Their figures and faces were 81% similar. Anabel was almost jealous. The photos and data showed how good their innate conditions were.
She asked Juliet,
"These two do look alike, but does it mean anything?"
Juliet answered,
"We found Avery has a twin sister called Zilvis, who went missing when she was five. When I double-checked the information on Joy and Avery and noticed they looked alike, I suddenly had a bold guess. Could Joy be Zilvis?"
Anabel suddenly raised her head and widened her eyes as she looked at Juliet in shock.
What a crazy guess! However, after checking these photos and information, who dared to say it was impossible? Not only did Joy and Avery look alike, but their intelligence and personalities were also similar.
"This is crazy..." Anabel slumped in the chair and muttered, "It’s crazy..."
Juliet went silent again.
A moment later, Anabel raised her head.
"Think of a way to verify if they are related by blood."
Anabel failed to confirm whether Joy and Avery had any romantic relationship with Alexander. Her intuition still made her hostile toward them. At the very least, Anabel had to be sure there was nothing between them and Alexander. She replied with a "yes" and left.
It was March, and the spring rain was endless.
At night, Rosemont City was even more misty in the drizzle, making it difficult for the surveillance cameras to see clearly.
Joy had an exam that night and wouldn’t return until at least ten p.m.
Juliet took advantage of the opportunity to open the small apartment Joy had rented on campus with the universal key and enter the room. Around ten minutes later, she quietly left the room and drove away.
An hour later, Joy opened the apartment door and entered. At a glance, she realized something was missing.
She checked carefully and found her toothbrush, the half-empty water bottle, the water glass, the hair in the trash can, and so on—gone.
"Shit. Someone has broken into my home," Joy cursed.
With a cold expression, she took down the masquerade mask hanging on the wall and took out the hidden surveillance camera.
She turned it on and saw a suspicious person with a mask, who wrapped herself up and looked like a young woman, open the door and enter the apartment. The intruder turned on a flashlight and searched everywhere before taking the things away. She tried to enter the two rooms, but both were locked with passwords and couldn’t be opened.
Joy thought quickly.
"The intruder wasn’t here for my money. Then, what was the point of taking away those worthless things?"
Her expression changed abruptly.
"Yes—DNA! Those things might have my DNA. Did she want to test it? What for?"
Murderous intent slowly gathered in Joy’s eyes.
People had tried to investigate her past over the last couple of months. After she dealt with one, another came. Tonight, it was already the third.
"Do they have to make things difficult for me?" Joy was confused.
She thought the apartments on campus were safe and didn’t want disturbances in this area.
She turned on her computer and hacked into the surveillance system in the area to track the woman’s whereabouts. Fortunately, the woman drove. It was raining and foggy everywhere, and many cameras couldn’t capture details, but one caught her license plate at a relatively bright intersection nearby. Joy took a screenshot to see it.
After another half an hour, Joy gave a cold smile.
"So it’s Queenpin Powell. No wonder..."
The traffic surveillance camera captured the license plate number. She found the car owner through it and dug up more information.
Juliet was driving on the highway to Valemont City. After doing what she did, she remained calm and unafraid.
In her opinion, if Joy didn’t care about the missing items, it meant there was no problem with Joy’s identity. But if Joy tried to get to the bottom of it, then something was suspicious. Juliet could use this to counter Joy and wouldn’t lose either way. Still, just in case, she drove straight to Valemont City. After all, it was good to have someone backing her up. With Anabel in Valemont City, Juliet’s safety could be guaranteed.
Past one in the morning, Juliet returned to her place tiredly. She hurriedly washed up and fell asleep.
Yawning, Juliet went downstairs at 10 a.m. the next day, ready to take what she’d collected the night before to a professional agency to see if she could get Joy’s DNA.
If she could get it, she’d have someone secretly get DNA samples from the Carter family and compare them with Joy’s.
Juliet parked in a dark corner of the underground parking lot, with cars on both sides.
She opened the car door and sat in the driver’s seat. She inserted the key into the lock and turned it slightly. Then, she heard the hissing sound of the car starting and a faint... what was that sound?
Juliet’s pupils suddenly dilated. She felt like a poisonous snake was sliding across her back, making her hair stand on end. Her entire body turned cold. She subconsciously wanted to look back. However, before she could, she felt the cold, hard metal pipe press against her forehead and something strangling her neck from behind.
"If you dare to move, I’ll blow your head off immediately."
The voice behind her was hoarse, without any emotion or warmth.
"Gun... It’s a gun," Juliet thought.
Her entire body stiffened with fear, and her face turned pale. Her mind went blank. Her hands and feet trembled uncontrollably.
Her eyes were almost out of focus, but she could vaguely see a black muzzle pressed against her forehead in the dim rearview mirror.
The handle of the gun was in a black-gloved hand. Other than that, the person behind her was shrouded in darkness. She could see nothing—only feel the terrifying killing intent.
"What... what do you want?" Juliet’s voice trembled, and tears fell.
