The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 101
Chapter 101: Chapter 101
It was past eight in the evening. Alexander seemed to be a little drunk. He leaned on the table and looked at Avery, stuttering, "I’ll send you back."
Avery’s face darkened. "Are you sure you can send me back in your current state?" She turned to the side to look for Louis. However, she did not see him. Hence, she called Louis and asked him to fetch Alexander.
Louis sounded sincere as he said, "Miss Carter, I’m very sorry. I have to deal with some urgent matters and can’t pick Mr. Moran up. Please send him to Room 1809 of the Lescotts Hotel." Then he hung up.
Avery looked at the hangover pill in her hand. There was only one pill. She was a little conflicted. Should she use it herself or give it to Alexander? She decided that it was better to use it herself. After swallowing the pill, she pulled Alexander up and had him lean on her shoulder as she helped him downstairs.
When the waiter saw the scene unfolding before him, his eyes widened in shock. He asked cautiously, "Miss, do you need us to help you send this gentleman back?"
"No need," Avery shook her head. "I can carry him."
Although Alexander was outstandingly tall, Avery was very strong. She could carry him. Moreover, Alexander was not very drunk. He was just a little delirious. Although his footsteps were unsteady, he could still walk. There was no need for her to carry him. Most importantly, she did not mind letting Alexander lean on her like that.
Alexander had a pleasant scent. She could even see his long eyelashes, tall nose, and sexy lips up close. She enjoyed the intimate distance between them.
Louis was quietly following Avery from behind. He watched as Avery helped Alexander down the cruise and into the car. She then fastened his seatbelt before driving to the hotel.
Louis was so touched that he felt like he was about to cry. He whispered silently to himself, "Mr. Moran, I’ve already helped you to this point. The rest’s up to you."
Alexander was a gentleman. Louis knew he would not take advantage of the opportunity to mess around. However, it was a good opportunity for Alexander and Avery to cultivate their relationship.
The Lescotts Hotel was not far from the cruise restaurant. They arrived in five to six minutes by car. Avery was astoundingly beautiful. The man beside her was tall, well-dressed, and had a distinguished presence. Their entrance naturally attracted others’ attention. The moment they entered the lobby, everyone around could not help but cast their gaze over.
There was a guy who was in the process of checking into the hotel at the front desk. He also noticed Avery. He was so shocked that his eyeballs almost fell out. He let go of the woman he was hugging and quickly walked to the side to phone Lucas.
"Guess who I saw in the hotel—Avery Carter! She’s with a man who’s leaning against her. They’re getting a room. Given how close they look together, it’s obvious something’s going on between them."
Lucas was furious to hear that. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Who’s that man?"
The reply came quickly. "That man seems to be drunk. His face’s pressed against her shoulder. He’s wearing a hat. I can’t see his face clearly, but judging from his clothes, he must be rich."
"A vain and materialistic woman only knows how to act noble before me!" Lucas sneered. "No matter what method you use, you must take footage of her checking in with the man and send it to me. Make sure it’s clear."
"Understood."
Avery did not realize there was someone behind them who was pretending to send messages while secretly recording her. Others were also waiting for the elevator. Avery did not notice anything unusual about the guy following her.
The elevator door opened. There were five or six people who went in together. Avery pressed the button for the eighteenth level. The guy following her then pressed for the sixteenth level. When the elevator stopped on the sixteenth floor, he quickly walked out, rushed into the emergency exit, and ran to the eighteenth floor.
He hid behind the emergency door and secretly recorded Avery entering a room with the man. He left after taking the footage. The first thing he did was to send it to Lucas.
He asked, "Do you want me to post these photos and videos online tonight and buy a few trending topics to ruin her reputation?"
Avery had become a famous person in Rosemont City. She was well-known as a straight-A student with exceptional looks. Everyone who surfed the Internet and watched the news knew her. Once the scandal of her going to a hotel with a man was exposed, her image would collapse and her reputation would be ruined.
"Not for the time being," Lucas’s voice was dark. "It’s the summer vacation now. She’s not always out in public, and she hasn’t started university yet. Even if she’s scolded online, it won’t affect her much. I’m going to wait for her to start school before I spread the evidence around. I’m going to take her popularity to another level for the wrong reason and have everyone laugh at her."
There was a reply. "You’re the smartest."
Lucas sneered. "I’ll make her pay the price for making me a laughingstock."
Avery made him a public embarrassment at Zoe’s promotion banquet. The circle of the upper-class elite then doubted his upbringing and questioned what his family was like. He and his sister were no longer invited to all kinds of parties and events in the upper-class circle. Gia also paid him no attention.
A few wealthy families had originally expressed their intentions to introduce their sons to his sister. However, they canceled their plans after what happened. His indecent proposal of enticing Avery to become his mistress by promising her an apartment and a luxury sports car became public. No matter where he went, as long as someone knew him, he would be pointed at and snickered at.
He was thoroughly embarrassed. He did not dare to go out after what happened. The friends he used to hang out with also rarely asked him out. He locked himself at home every day. He felt suffocated. His hatred for Avery also deepened day by day.
He had also thought of retaliating by causing trouble for her family. However, they no longer set up stalls or lived in the neighborhood. It was said that their entire family had moved to the countryside. There was no chance for him to retaliate.
He could only hope that Avery’s reputation would be ruined after school started.
Avery was driving home when she saw an update from Maria on Facebook. Maria shared that she would be ending work late as she was excitedly preparing for the studio’s opening the next day. After thinking for a moment, she turned the car around and went to the building where Maria worked.
While waiting for Maria to get off work, she used her phone and started working. She did not see Maria until it was past 10 at night. Maria was walking out of the building hurriedly. Avery made a call and asked Maria to get in her car.
Maria ran over quickly and opened the car door. Seeing that Avery had waited for her to get off work late at night, she was extremely touched. "Avery, you’re too good to me. I don’t know how to repay you."
Avery smiled. "I was on the way. You’re welcome. Get in."
Maria happily got into the car and closed the door. The two of them did not know people were watching and talking about them from a distance.
When the colleagues who followed Maria out of the building saw Maria getting into the car, their eyes revealed disdain as they spoke.
Someone snorted. "I can’t believe it. Maria just graduated from high school. She didn’t even have a proper education in design. What right does she have to get an internship at our studio?"
Another woman beside her nodded fervently. "Did you guys notice the bag that she treasures so much? It’s an A-class imitation of the Yonder bag. Does she think that we are dumb and can’t recognize that it’s an imitation?"
The man beside her added, "She said that her family background is not good. However, there’s someone who arrives in a car to pick her up after work. Do you think she’s dating a rich man?"
The woman replied derisively, "With her looks, would a rich man like her?"
The man replied, "Not necessarily. No matter how ordinary she looks, she’s only twenty years old. Perhaps the man fetching her is already sixty years old."
There was a reply. "You’re right. The car seems ordinary. She’s probably with an old man who has a little money. There’s no way for any beauty to agree to be with him, so he can only choose someone like her."
The man laughed and said, "That makes sense."
The group of well-dressed men and women were chatting and laughing. Their elation was apparent as they gossiped.
