Chapter 89: The Dragon’s Secret Consultations – And the Witch Who Found Out

"So, Adrei." The witch narrowed her eyes as she wiggled within her husband’s grasp. "Mind telling me why you were leading me out to the entrance?"

The familiar stone pavements they walked on for the gate of Rouen were now empty streets, with few pedestrians, and... the trembling, runed words from beneath.

Even after fifteen years of being used to being stepped on by random strangers, the vampires and demons’ pride had finally ceased to be under the icy reminders of why they were there in the first place.

"Perhaps, but...if I did not mishear from the Queen." Adrei wryly smiled, her trembling, yes, trembling grasp tightening on her wife’s waist. "Alice did throw a meteor on our coliseum, correct?"

"Mhm."

"And what do you think she threw a meteor for?"

"..."

Ah, right. The Witch’s sweat drooped from her forehead as she glanced away. Wow, that one stall was still diligently selling Alice’s plushy dolls, huh?

...maybe each of those doll’s bubbly eyes was filled with Alice’s monitoring magic?

"So, Demond." Adrei played with the hair lock of the Witch, her trembling finger unmissed by her wife’s fear. "If Alice forcefully came, how should we explain your...resurrection ritual into becoming a witch?"

"...I mean, there’s no way around it. You did kill me once after all, under the order of the Dragon Council." Demond heaved a large, large sigh as she leaned further into Adrei.

"Exactly. Which is why we must...retreat while we have the time and leisure given generously to us by the Queen."

"...I don’t think it is that Queen’s generosity at work here, my poorly consented husband." Her grumpy rebuttal was responded to with a chuckle before the witch’s gaze darted forward, contemplating.

"Say, Adrei..." The witch’s trickly mind shuddered when she thought back to that... alleyway scene. "How’s our Queen and my...daughter’s relationship be like?"

"Our daughter, Demond. And..." Adrei nuzzled her cheek into the Witch’s hair. "You shouldn’t worry. The Queen, despite her diplomatic shrewdness, is a good partner. Alice consented without much resistance."

"That brat...what did she do this time to seduce a literal Queen of the country?" The witch’s pouting cheek was poked in by Adrei as she continued. "And seriously? Kissing right here in the alleyway where she just created a third coming of ’Frozen’ Film? How improper."

"Demond...must I remind you..."

"Not listening. That was an accident, Adrei." The witch groaned as her cherries perked up at a familiar accident. "And and....grr, there’s no way around it, but why do I feel like you and that Queen’s perversity could not outmatch even each other?"

"I take that as a compliment?"

"It is not." The witch’s knuckle tapped at her husband’s forehead. "And seducing both me and my daughter? Wow, I thought I was the unserious, funny, haha one who would lend my lewd doujin to my daughter, turns out someone foresaw an extra step along with their fellow Queen."

"...it is a mere coincidence."

"Look me in the eyes as you said so, Adrei." The Witch’s narrowed gaze burrowed into Adrei’s side cheek as the Dragon’s eyes wandered to the sky, the imagination of the sky Dragon’s tyranny more bearable than her wife’s scorning suspicion.

"Come to think of it, the timing itself is suspicious." Her wife’s war veteran sense tingled up at the worst moment for Adrei. "It’s like you know full well the Queen is going to smooch with my daughter when we were bolting out here, aren’t we?"

"Hm..."

"So tell me, how many times have you consulted with and about Queen Elsara about me and my daughter?" The narrowing eyes curved into a complete scowl.

"I would claim...merely a few times, would you believe it?"

"Not." The Witch grumbled again as she snuggled out of Adrei’s grasp. "Don’t talk to me for now. I need some time to think."

"De-Demond...I-I merely suggested the Queen to take the initiative, but..." The Dragon Queen gulped, her hands feeling emptier than ever without her wife.

"Ah, initiative. Right, don’t talk to me."

"My wife...my love..."

"..."

"Ri-right...about our promises..."

"Hmph." Just like any Tsundere protagonist, the witch didn’t spare even a glance at the professional pervert who taught another pervert how to butter up her daughter into being a willing puppy.

The Dragon Queen, for the first time in her now colorful life with her wife, held back her teases for she truly sensed the irritation behind her grumpy wife.

Little did they know that a certain ashen-eyed dragon was following curiously behind the duo, humbly sniffing in all the new materials to gossip about in her next council meeting.

--------------

In the iced forest held an irritated vampire with a different kind of irritation, as Manasseh scowled at the frostbitten millers she accidentally stepped on.

"...this thing doesn’t crack, huh? Did Alice’s mana even strengthen the material itself?"

The vampire sighed as she lifted away her bare foot over the suspiciously hardened miller, not endured by ages but endured by mere crystalisation of manas, before she glanced back.

She has a sneaking suspicion...one not unfamiliar to her since she experiemented on her own kins. After all, there are very, very few presence that was as terrifying as the indifferent emerald-eyes that seemed to set boundaries between them and the dragon.

"Coriel. You bastard." Manasseh seethed her teeth, her prideful fangs protruding out for the restored vampire’s rage. "What do you want this time?"

A chuckle echoed in the deep forest responded. Then, with a grace of a ballet dancer and a tactile creepiness of a marrionette doll, a certain scientist stepped forward.

"It would seem you’ve experienced a miracle for your resurrection, no?" Coriel tilted her head, the amusement never leaving her tone. "I’ve exmained the cocoon itself, and the vampire Queen’s technique was....safe to assume, an exquisite study."

"Even sullying upon our ancestor’s generosity. Your taboo-like nature knew no bound, scientist." The vampire frowned, claws sharpening at the ready not to fight, but to distract and run immediately should there by any sign of Coriel’s movement.

"Please, do not mistaken my fascination as one of my disrespectful dissection." Coriel’s smiley eyes curved into cresent moons, the icy barks’ purities around her failing to pierce through the abyss that is the scientist’s mind.

"And our vampire. What do you wish to accomplish after you left the forest?" The scientist inquired as her fingertip cautiously tickled a frozen leaf, both utterly terrified and fascinated by Alice’s physic-defying magic.

"You need to ask? Of course." Manasseh’s shoulders slackened a little as she honestly replied. "I have absolutely no clue."

No need to hide behind excuses to a monster who would fully capitalise on them. Manasseh’s scowl deepened further and further with the boiling tension threatening to heat up even against Alice’s ice.

Yet that tension...was cooled down just as fast as Coriel’s finger swiping over the frozen leaf, as her emerald eyes smiled towards the vampire.

"Then, shall you accompany me to the Infinite Dungeon of Soverignheim?"

The string that held the vampire’s scowl together completely broke, as her eyes now narrowed instead.

"Are you kidding me?" In the frostbitten world, the glossy shades were the only witnesses for the lone question to ridicule the Dragon Elder of Woods.
