Chapter 459: Chapter 455

Lisa was silent for a long time after my words. I thought she didn’t want to respond, but to my surprise, I heard her sob.

I panicked instantly. It was the first time Lisa had cried in front of me. Even when she begged me to give Damon another chance, she hadn’t wept like this.

"Eliana, we, the Colemans, owe you an apology, I’ve always felt I was responsible for you wasting the best five years of your life. And that child, who should have been born safely and grown up happily under our watch, was lost because of Damon’s irresponsibility. That led to the child not having the chance to be part of our family. How can I accept that?" Lisa’s tears started to flow as she spoke, she took a tissue and gently wiped the corners of her eyes.

I didn’t know how to respond. I had already moved on, but Lisa was still immersed in the pain and regret of that time.

"Lisa, those things happened a long time ago. Now he has Leo, and that’s pretty good. Some things are just fate, and we can’t force them." After a while, I finally managed to utter these words. I knew what was bothering Lisa because Damon had told me, but I had never seen Lisa lose control of her emotions.

She began to cry softly, making me feel incredibly sad and my eyes began to well up.

After a few minutes, Lisa looked up at me again and said, "Eliana, in my heart, you’re still my daughter- in-law. I know you’re with Jones now, but I feel a connection with you, and I think you’re the best match for Damon!"

It had been a long time since Damon and I divorced, but Lisa still considered me her daughter-in-law. I didn’t know whether to be moved or embarrassed.

"Lisa, Damon now has Catherine and Leo. It’s not appropriate to talk about these things anymore. I just hope you’re well." I found that apart from these words, I had no other way to comfort Lisa.

I was even afraid that if I said the wrong thing, it would make Lisa feel worse.

Lisa wiped her tears, then forced a smile, "Alright, I understand. I recently made a trip to Heavenly Mountain to light a candle for that child and made a wish for his peaceful passing. The time to fulfill that wish is nearing. If you have time, would you accompany me?"

This surprised me. I usually didn’t believe in these things.

But Lisa had made a wish on behalf of the child I lost, showing how much she loved and cared for that child.

The more she behaved like this, the more upset I felt.

"Eliana, please accompany me. Maybe it will help me let go of my regrets." Seeing that I was silent, Lisa pleaded with me again.

Looking at her almost begging eyes, I couldn’t refuse. Besides, it was a wish made for the sake of my first child. How could I be indifferent?

"Alright, when?" I asked.

"I’ll consult with the priest and notify you a few days in advance. Is that okay?" Lisa’s face still had tear stains, but she managed a slight smile.

I nodded in agreement.

Lisa sighed in relief. The conversation became much lighter after that, revolving around daily life. She loved to talk about Leo, but each time she would observe my reaction. If she felt I didn’t like the topic, she would change it. Finally, the conversation shifted to Serena and Brandon.

She asked me for a few photos of them and praised them so much that I felt quite proud.

Suddenly, Lisa’s phone rang. After a brief exchange, she asked, "Eliana, can I borrow your car? I need to pick something up."

"Are you driving?" I was surprised.

"Yes, it’s not far. I’ll go get it, and you wait for me here." Lisa nodded.

I couldn’t refuse, so I handed Lisa the car keys.

I sat alone, sipping coffee and admiring the flowers and plants around me. It was a rare moment of relaxation in these days. I didn’t feel like going home, so I decided to wait quietly for Lisa to return.

Unexpectedly, instead of Lisa, Damon appeared before me. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the top, and he had removed his tie. He looked drunk. The skin from his chest to his neck was flushed, and the smell of alcohol was quite strong.

I was taken aback. How did he get here? And so quickly after his drinking session?

Damon’s eyes had a faint redness, giving him a slightly sickly and seductive look. He exhaled, "Let’s go. I’ll take you home."

"Where’s your mom?" I asked, confused.

"She drove your car home. Leo wanted her to return." Damon’s hands were in his pockets, and his shirt was neatly tucked into his pants. He looked incredibly sleek and austere in his attire.

I was baffled. Lisa had driven my car home to tend to her grandson without telling me. Then she sent her son, Damon, who had drunk quite a bit, to take me home

Was this really appropriate?

I immediately refused, "That’s not necessary. I’ll take a cab home. You’ve been drinking."

I wasn’t keen on taking a risky ride.

"We have a driver. Let’s go." Damon ignored my refusal. He picked up my phone from the table and turned to leave.

I was shocked and quickly got up to follow him. "What are you doing with my phone? I said I can get a cab. Just have your driver deliver my car to my house tomorrow."

As I tried to take my phone, Damon took advantage of his height and held it out of my reach, "Stop fussing. I’ll take you home."

His tone was strangely intimate, as though I was a wife throwing a tantrum at her husband.

Men who’ve had too much to drink really are crazy. I grabbed Damon’s other wrist and said, "Give me my phone back. I won’t let you take me home!"

"Why? Is Jones coming to pick you up?" Damon looked down at me, a smirk playing on his lips, "Eliana, how much longer do you plan on fooling me?"

His question made my heart skip a beat. "What do you mean, fooling you?"

Damon looked at me with an inscrutable gaze. He was so tall that I had to tilt my head up to look at him, which was quite tiring. I decided to avert my eyes, took a couple of steps back to put some distance between us, and said, "If you have something to say, say it. What have I fooled you about?"

"So, you and Jones aren’t actually married, are you?" Damon finally blurted out, and that statement almost made my heart leap out of my throat.

When did he find out? And how?

Shock and surprise rendered me speechless for a moment, and I just stared at Damon, frozen in place.

Damon closed the gap between us slightly, leaning in closer. I could smell faint traces of whiskey on his breath. "Spill it. What else have you been lying to me about? Is it about the kids?"
