The Reborn Wife Of The Tyrant CEO -
Chapter 381 - 377
Chapter 381: Chapter 377
I had no clue how that type of rope had ended up in Catherine’s purse, so I decided to get in touch with the hotel manager.
Following our conversation, I received a picture of the rope used for tying up, seafood in the hotel’s kitchen. It was identical to the one I had found in Catherine’s bag.
I comprehended the situation. If I were to accuse her with the rope as evidence, she could have refuted me, claiming it was just a coincidence. After all, it was common for some kitchen waste to end up in the sea.
"Let’s keep this under wraps for now. We have no concrete evidence," I advised Jones, to which he nodded his agreement. He warned me to keep my distance from Catherine, knowing her temperament to be even more volatile than Ariel’s.
I didn’t need Jones to tell me that. After all, I was no stranger to Catherine’s antics.
Feeling a bit low, I took a nap in the afternoon and woke up just in time for dinner with Jones.
The hotel’s restaurant was situated on the top floor, boasting a round glass ceiling and an ocean view.
At night, the ocean was barely visible. Instead, we were treated to a sky full of stars and the multicolored lights of the beach side.
My appetite wasn’t great, so I grabbed a bit to eat and settled down at a table, enjoying the night view as I ate. Jones sat next to me, shelling ’some nuts for me, saying, "Eat something."
"Will eating these at night make me gain weight?" I asked with a smile.
"You could stand to put on a few pounds," Jones said fondly. "You’re too skinny. It worries me."
I had come a long way from my skinny past. Back then, people used to tell me that having a baby would have made me gain weight. I secretly hoped for a chubby baby with Damon, dreaming of a perfect life with a loving family and a hot body.
But then, only half of that dream had come true. I was in better shape, but far from a happy family.
Just as I was about to respond, a hand reached out and grabbed all the nuts Jones had shelled. I turned to see Leo, who was unabashedly eating them while Catherine watched from a distance. Damon was nowhere to be seen.
"Leo, you shouldn’t take other people’s food without asking!" Catherine finally came over when she saw me looking at him, gently chiding him.
"She’s not just anyone. Isn’t she Ms. Brooks?" Leo pointed at me, acting as if we were close.
Leo, who used to be rude to me, was then addressing me as "Ms. Brooks while stealing my food.
"Leo’s a bit mischievous, and he loves nuts. Please forgive him," Catherine said, smiling at me.
"Leo, you need to learn manners. Didn’t your parents teach you that?" I didn’t pay any attention to Catherine and continued to educate Leo.
"I don’t need you to tell me what to do!" Leo snapped at me.
I could tell that Leo had been spoiled by Catherine. He was impolite and lacked respect.
Leo made a run for it after speaking, but I managed to grab him. "You need to apologize to me first. I didn’t give you permission to take the nuts. That wasn’t right."
Leo was angry when I didn’t let him go and started to struggle. Jones didn’t get a chance to help me before Leo pushed my injured hand.
The pain made me gasp, and I let go of Leo.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Jones’s face turned icy, and he quickly pushed Leo away, his voice stern.
Leo might have been a brat, but he was still a child. Facing the wrath of an adult man, he ran off, hiding behind Catherine.
Just then, Damon appeared. Seeing the tense situation, he looked cold.
He asked, "What’s going on?"
Catherine, standing protectively in front of Jones, said in a shaky voice, "Nothing serious. Leo was just being a bit naughty. He took some food from Ms. Brooks without asking and accidentally bumped into her wounded hand. Jones was just being protective and pushed Leo a bit. It scared Leo, that’s all. I’ll talk to him later and tell him what he did was wrong."
Her words were clever. She stated the facts in a way that made it seem like Jones and I were the unreasonable ones, and Leo was just an innocent child.
Damon, who clearly cared for Leo, looked at Jones and me with piercing eyes after
Seeing the situation, I decided to leave. "Jones, I’ve had enough. Let’s go."
Jones followed, but Damon stopped us. "Shouldn’t you apologize first
I was confused. His son was clearly spoiled, and yet he was indulging him?
Witnessing the situation, Catherine immediately intervened, "Damon, it’s Leo who’s at fault here. Don’t make things hard for Ms. Brooks and the others. They’re just a bit upset and they lost their cool for a moment. The nuts that Leo took were ones that Jonesl had shelled by hand for Ms. Brooks, which is why they hold a special significance. That’s why she’s so upset, which is understandable."
With that, she turned her stern gaze onto Leo. "Leo, apologize to Ms. Brooks immediately!"
Leo blinked. His eyes were wide in disbelief. He couldn’t believe that his mother, who had been defending him just moments prior, was then ordering him so sternly to apologize. He seemed taken aback.
"Apologize, and remember never to act like this again. Taking other people’s things without asking is not acceptable, understood?" Catherine was determined to maintain her stern motherly image. Her hands were on her hips and a frown was on her face as she scolded Leo.
Leo, who had been trying to hold back his tears, couldn’t help but let them flow after Catherine’s reprimand. He was instantly in tears.
"Crying won’t solve anything. Apologize." To my surprise, Damon spoke up, his tone completely different from when he demanded an apology from me earlier. He pulled Leo in front of me, "Since your mom said you were in the wrong, you should apologize. I made a mistake earlier."
His action caught Catherine off guard, and she stared blankly at Damon.
Leo, tear-streaked and sobbing, stood before me. Both of his parents were telling him to apologize. Without anyone to back him up, he dared not be stubborn.
"Ms. Brooks, I’m sorry. I... I shouldn’t have taken your food without asking. I was impolite, Leo stammered between sobs, looking pitiful.
Children don’t know any better. They are the products of their parents’ upbringing.
In that case, Catherine should have taken responsibility for Leo’s actions.
I patted Leo’s head, "All right, I forgive you. Next time, ask politely if you want something, okay?"
Leo nodded, choking on his tears, then looked back at Damon and Catherine, as if waiting for them to speak.
Catherine managed a small smile and waved Leo over, "Come here, sweetie."
Only then did Leo hide behind Catherine again. Damon didn’t say a word, and just looked at me.
"All right, you all carry on eating." I avoided Damon’s gaze and turned to Jones, "Let’s go."
Just then, Catherine spoke, "Ms. Brooks, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you."
I stopped in my tracks, unable to think of any unfinished business between us. Jones tried to pull me away, but Damon grabbed my other arm, "Hold on, didn’t you hear her?"
I was curious to hear what Catherine had to say, but Damon’s abruptness irritated me.
I shook off his hand, "I don’t want to listen, okay?"
With that, I stormed out of the dining room. When we entered the elevator, Jones finally smiled, "Good. Keep that attitude with Catherine. Avoid her as much as possible and don’t believe anything she says, okay?"
I nodded. I was not in the mood to argue.
"Promise me you won’t believe anything she says, okay?" Jones repeated, emphasizing his point.
That piqued my curiosity. I could have sensed his aversion to Catherine, even disgust, from his tone.
I nodded again and said, "Okay, I got it."
Back in the room, I lay down to rest. Because of my injured hand, I had to plan my shower carefully. Jones, on the other hand, was researching abroad’s hospital information, intending to work there as a doctor.
I drifted off to sleep, and when I woke up, I heard the sound of running water from the bathroom. Jones was probably taking a shower.
I wanted to take a shower too, and suddenly remembered the hotel had a hot spring pool. I could have just gone to soak in there and called Luna over.
After sending Luna a message, I immediately headed to the hot spring pool. There were even professional spa masseuses available.
"Oh, Ms. Brooks, you’re here too?" I had just arrived when I heard Catherine’s voice.
I wondered if she was stalking me.
Why else would I have kept running into her?
Just then, Luna’s voice rang out, "Eliana, I’m here! Where are you hurt? Let me see!"
She rushed over and upon seeing my bandaged hand, she paled, asking, "How did you get hurt so badly? Where were the safety guards? They let you get hurt, and the elevator broke down earlier too. We paid money for this? We’re complaining when we get back!"
"Yeah, this hotel isn’t great. But Leo said he liked the island and wanted to come here, and his dad indulges him a lot. So, he agreed." Catherine chimed in, subtly flaunting Damon’s affection for Leo.
Luna gave Catherine a glance and smirked, "Oh, Dr. Catherine, I didn’t see you earlier. Why are you soaking in the hot spring alone instead of spending time with Damon?"
"Damon is playing games with Leo, so I came down to relax." Catherine’s face was full of sweetness.
Luna caught on quickly. Catherine was flaunting Damon’s special treatment of her and his affection for Leo, asserting their status in the Coleman family. "Heh, why would you let Damon play games with your son? He should be teaching him business strategies. How else is your son going to inherit Coleman Co.’s vast fortune?" Luna’s words were dripping with sarcasm, but she maintained a bright smile on her face.
Silas and Lisa’s resistance to Catherine’s relationship with Damon, driven by their significant differences in status, were widely recognized within the family. Even though Catherine’s mother, Nancy had married a wealthy man and made a name for herself, her involvement in the FarHorizon Group scandal had forced her to flee overseas, rendering her useless to Catherine.
Catherine’s reputation as an internationally renowned doctor was far
In response to Luna’s snide remarks, Catherine simply smiled and
happy. We’re all mothers here; we should understand that feeling."
I couldn’t deny that. I felt the same way towards Serena and Brandon. benefit
"Let’s have some sense of accomplishment. I hope for is that Leo grows up safe and healthy"
"How nice of you," Luna said, linking her arm with mine. "All right, oh great mother. We’re off to soak in the hot springs. We won’t stick around to hear about your perfect, blissful family life. Bye-bye."
Luna’s sarcasm was always sharp and to the point. The fact that Catherine managed to remain so composed was something I admired.
She waved casually in my direction, "All right, Ms. Brooks. Be careful not to get your hand wet. If it gets infected, it could be quite problematic, and you might even become impaired."
I frowned. The wound on my palm was rather deep and I was also worried about infection. But something about the way Catherine warned me made me feel somewhat uneasy.
