"Nurse, I don’t know this man; can you get him out of here?"

Maybe it was because I had seen enough crazy stuff, but my gut feeling was now as sharp as a razor.

The nurse gave the guy a look, and her alarm bells instantly went off. She said sternly. "Leave, don’t disturb the patient, or I’ll call security!"

The man glared at me with such a chill. I didn’t know him, but he looked at me like I was his worst enemy.

With the medical staff present, he didn’t dare linger. He made up an excuse, "Sorry, wrong room."

Even after he left, I still had the creeps. I didn’t know this place well, and being here alone felt risky.

"You better take good care of Eliana! If you go after that tramp Ariel again, I swear I’ll cut ties with you!" Just as I dialed the number, the hospital room door burst open, and Lisa’s voice echoed from afar.

I immediately hung up, but Lisa still noticed. "Eliana, were you just calling Damon? Are you scared he’ll go see Ariel?"

Thinking back to the man earlier, I told Damon, "Ask the doctor if I can leave tomorrow to continue treatment in the city."

Nicole was silent for a moment, trying to recall the past, before answering me. "Their relationship was pretty good. Joshua’s brother-in-law used to be a domestic abuser, but he was good to Ariel at that time. She even bragged to me about it."

That made sense. Ariel could have teamed up with Hannah’s husband, given their respective grudges against Joshua’s family.

But then I thought of more questions. How did Ariel know I was here? How did she notify that guy?

"Okay, I get it" I hung up the phone and took a deep breath. Ariel really hadn’t changed one bit, she was openly trying to kill me now. Damon had been listening in on the call since I had it on speaker, so he didn’t need me to repeat the conversation.

We looked at each other for a while, neither of us speaking.

After a moment, Damon finally spoke. "We need to change the plan."

"What?" I asked.

I handle Ethan myself; there’s no need to go through Ariel anymore." Damon’s voice suddenly became stem "He, Ariel and Nancy are all in on it. If we take him down, everything else will fall into place."

"What are you planning to do? Confront him directly?" I started to worry. Even though I had thought about using Damon before, I didn’t want him to risk everything.

Ethan was no pushover, taking him down would take some effort.

Damon’s eyes hardened. "At this rate, you’ll only be in more danger. And I’m running out of patience with Ariel."

I was taken aback. I hadn’t expected Damon to prioritize my safety.

"Damon, we’ve come this far, let’s not take any more risks." I said, a bit awkwardly.

Damon looked at me for a while, then suddenly asked. "Aren’t you jealous?"

I was taken aback. "Jealous of what?"

My answer seemed to upset Damon.

"Seeing me with Ariel, you’re not jealous at all? You don’t feel anything?"

I finally realized what he was getting at and immediately understood that Damon was angry. If I said I wasn’t jealous, that meant I didn’t care about him and had no desire to have him to myself.

Damon’s face eased up a lad. He got up, walked to the door, locked it, and then came back to the bedside.

He propped himself on the edge of the bed with both hands and leaned in with his fit body slightly bent. His lips twitched. "I almost switched gears that day. I wasn’t planning on letting Ethan and Jones leave there alive."

I stared at Damon in shock. I had no idea that he was that pissed off back then.

"Luckily, you weren’t hurt. Just this spot" Damon lifted a hand, pointed out with his index finger, lightly hooked my collar, and touched a spot on my neck. "Jones grazed this spot on your neck, but that’s not your fault. It’s on him."

I felt like Damon’s fingertip was a bit cold, so I couldn’t help but shrink my neck and then roll over to lay flat.
