Chapter 271: Chapter 267

I averted my gaze, feeling like I was getting a bit too lecherous

Just then, Damon’s phone rang. He had left his phone on my vanity last night, so it was within my line of sight.

I glanced at the caller ID, and it was "Annoying Fool"

It was Zoe calling, and I couldn’t pick up the phone. I decided to pretend I didn’t hear it.

Zoe hung up and immediately sent a text message. "Why didn’t you answer the phone? Are you still sleeping in?"

The notification popped up on the phone screen, and I saw it again.

I had a sense of guilt. I reached out to turn the phone over.

At that moment, Zoe sent another message, "Thanks for last night, otherwise, my dad would have scolded me badly. He’s been trying to control me lately"

So, it was because of Zoe that Damon had gone out the previous night. He often seemed annoyed by Zoe, but in action, he never ignored her

I flipped the phone over and placed it on the table, deciding not to dwell on that issue.

Damon hadn’t gotten up by the time I left. I didn’t wake him up and instead had James come over to drive me to Sofia’s place.

When I arrived. Luna and the others were already there. Mitch and Cooper were also present

As soon as they saw me, Mitch lowered his head and meekly stayed behind Luna. I hadn’t confronted him about the recent incident where he had reported me a couple of days ago.

"Eliana, come, have some dessert", Sofia walked over, linking her arm with mine, her face beaming with happiness

Ryan was chatting with Cooper, Sofia’s husband, and others. He greeted me in a friendly manner when he saw me. I nodded at him and joined Luna, Sofia, and

Clara for a chat

I filled them in on my decision to move back to Starlight Estates. They looked surprised and were momentarily speechless.

After a while, Luna asked, "Are you really planning to remarry Damon? I heard you moved back to Starlight Estates"

"Yes. What’s wrong?" I nodded. I hadn’t expected Damon to share that with Cooper and the others.

"Eliana, Damon is really remorseful. He genuinely wants to win you back. So if he occasionally messes up, could you forgive him?" Cooper looked apologetic. "Last night, I was out drinking with Zoe, and something happened, so Zoe called him. Do you know about this?"

So, that’s what happened. I was well aware.

I smiled faintly, feeling surprisingly calm. I had anticipated that. "It’s fine. Regardless of my relationship with Damon, I won’t interfere with his interactions with friends. Both you and Zoe are his friends. It’s normal for you to seek his help."

Cooper was taken aback, appearing somewhat confused. He probably thought that since I was living with Damon again, I would be jealous or upset.

My reaction now resembled that of a roommate, without any jealousy typically associated with a romantic relationship.

"if there’s nothing else, I’ll go inside,’I greeted Cooper naturally and then walked back into the living room.

Cooper stood alone on the balcony for a while, seemingly unable to collect his thoughts.

Around lunchtime, I received a call from someone. It was a response from the person I had tasked with investigating that unknown number. He said, "Ms. Brooks, the number you asked me to trace seems to have anti-tracking measures in place, so I couldn’t determine the owner of the number. I could only pinpoint a rough area."

"Where is it?" I asked.

"It’s near Soul Enterprises," the hacker replied.

My face immediately darkened. Could it be that even that phone call was part of Ariel’s fabricated lie?

I had thought I could find evidence. It seemed I had been overly optimistic.

"I understand," I said, my mood deteriorating

If Ariel deliberately had someone call me, why did she do it? I thought and thought, and the only possibility that came to mind was that she intended to use that excuse to distract me and then steal my speech notes from my desk

Ariel was truly cunning, going to great lengths to seize every opportunity to frame me.

I lost my appetite for lunch and just sat there, lost in thought

At that moment, my phone rang again. It was another unknown number | furrowed my brow, thinking, ’Could it be another call from someone Ariel sent’

I answered the call. A woman’s voice came from the phone, "Is this Ms. Brooks?"

"Who is this?" I asked in confusion. I had no familiarity with that voice.

"I’m Joshua’s sister, Hannah. My brother had given me your contact information before. He told me you were his best friend in the city. Do you have some free time to meet with me?" Her voice held a hint of nervousness, as if afraid I might refuse.

I hadn’t expected Joshua’s sister to reach out to me. I thought, "She must be here to handle Joshua’s affairs. Just thinking of him made my mood heavy."

"Okay, Where are you now? I will come pick you up." I agreed to her proposal.

Hannah had just arrived at the train station. She was Joshua’s one and only sister. Their family were farmers, and they didn’t come with her this time

It took me a good half hour to get to the station from Sofia’s place. When I saw Hannah, I was taken aback. She was the spitting image of Joshua, only softer and more feminine.

Hannah was a lot older than Joshua, she was even older than me. Her face was a portrait of sorrow, and her eyes seemed to be swollen from crying on the trip.

"Hi, I’m Eliana Brooks. I’m a friend of Joshuas." I had Sofia take Hannahs luggage and then I introduced myself to her.

"Ms. Brooks, nice to meet you. This is my first time here. I don’t know anything about this place, so I’m hoping you can help me out." Hannah said as she looked at me with sad eyes.
