The elevator door slowly closed, and Ariel’s eyes were filled with resentment, staring at me like a vengeful ghost in a horror movie

This ghost woman seemed to be constantly haunting me. In my past life, I was madly trying to find her, intrigued by whatever charm she had that could obsess Damon so much.

In this life, though, I just wish she would stay the hell away from me and not show up in front of me anymore.

After leaving the hotel, I rushed straight back to work.

Just as I arrived at the office, my phone started to ring. It was Damon calling "Why didn’t you tell me when you left?" he asked.

"Why should l?" I responded, not getting his point.

"I was going to ride with you back, I didn’t drive here" Damon sounded like he was treating me as his personal chauffeur. He added, "You drove me here, don’t you remember?"

His unreasonable words left me speechless. After a moment of silence, I finally asked, "Don’t you have your own chauffeur? Or maybe Nick could give you a lift"

Damon responded coldly, "You drove me here, so you should drive me back."

I didn’t have time for Damons nonsense and hung up on him.

After a long day at work, I left the office exhausted and rushed to the hospital to visit my mom

"Ms. Brooks, another man came to visit your mother in the past two days. He seemed to have worked here before", the nurse told me.

I nodded silently because I knew it was Jones.

I wondered if his injuries were getting better. The fight with Damon that night left both of them hurt, but Jones seemed to be the worse off

I held back from asking, not wanting to give him any false hope

"Oh, and he asked me to give you this." The nurse handed me a small box, beautifully packaged and unopened.

I took the box but didn’t open it until I got home

Inside was a beautiful heart-shaped diamond ring, the diamond about the size of a thumbnail and expertly cut. It shone brilliantly under the light.

There was a note under the ring: "I was going to propose to you once this all blew over, but I know you can’t hold on any longer"

Seeing his handwritten words, I felt a sudden pang in my heart, and tears welled up in my eyes.

I knew I might have missed out on a great guy, but if I insisted on being with him, it would only leave him scarred

After crying silently for a while. I put away the ring.

Since Jones had sent it to me, I would keep it safe as a memento

After seeing Jones that night at the bar, I hadn’t heard from him for a while. Even Mitch didn’t have any news about him.

"Eliana, you really broke his heart this time," Luna couldn’t help blaming me

"I know I shouldn’t have been with him in the first place. I took up his time and wasted his emotions," I said bitterly.

"But there was no other way. His parents were so against your relationship, and you never told us.... If you had spoken up earlier, we wouldn’t have pushed you to be with Jones," Clara shook her head

I didn’t respond, just silently sipping my drink.

Sofia tightly held my hand. "You should cut back on the booze. You’re turning into a lush!"

If she hadn’t reminded me, I might not have realized how much I’d been drinking lately, often before bedtime, to help me sleep.

Whenever I had free time, I would drink to relax, but I knew it wasn’t healthy, especially given my not- so-strong constitution.

I put down my drink and started eating more. Everyone said I’d lost a lot of weight and wanted to eat more to avoid looking frail.

"Let’s go to a party" Luna, who had been engrossed in her phone, suddenly suggested

Apparently, Mitch had messaged her that he had a friend celebrating a birthday and invited us along. Luna loved this kind of lively event, so she immediately agreed.

I didn’t refuse, thinking it might be a good way to unwind. Maybe being in a lively atmosphere would help lift my spirits.

We all went there, only to be surprised.

Mitch’s friend turned out to be Zoe

"Eliana, you’re here too? Awesome!" Zoe laughed when she saw me.

"Yes, she’s one of Damon’s pursuers," I replied, I gave her Damon’s contact

Actually, Damon was really nice to Zoe. Although he didn’t come to her birthday party, he still helped her bring people as she requested.

Since we were there, we could just enjoy the party. As long as Damon was not here, it was all good.

Besides Mitch and Cooper, as well as me and Luna, there were a few other friends of Zoe’s that we didn’t know.

"Zoe, the hot guy you’re chasing hasn’t shown up yet?" one of Zoe’s friends asked her jokingly.

He glanced at me, then answered his phone, "Damon, you coming, dude? Zoe’s your friend, it’d be kinda crappy if you don’t show up."

"I’m not going!" Damon replied firmly. "I just wanted to ask you,"

Mitch quickly turned around, deliberately pointing his phone’s front camera at me.

Damon’s voice paused for a few seconds, and then he muttered, "Just text me the address. I’m kinda bored right now"

Mitch said cheerfully, "I’ll text you the address right now!"

After ending the video call, Mitch started texting Damon the details

Zoe leaned in and said, "I knew we needed you to get him here. Damon totally doesn’t see me as a friend!"

Mitch chuckled awkwardly, then shot me an uneasy glance.

I frowned, sensing something was off.

Just then, a work call came in, and I found a quiet spot to answer.
