Chapter 212: Chapter 208

I was not typically one to gossip, but when my ex-husband and his current girlfriend were having a spat next door, it was hard not to peek.

Damon came out of the room next door, his face was as dark as a storm cloud. The moment he spotted me watching, his gaze stabbed at me like a blade.

I flashed him a sympathetic smile. Women could be unreasonable sometimes. Ariel was a lot younger than him, he should cut her some slack. "Bang!" The door next door slammed shut.

"What are you smiling at?" Damon suddenly confronted me, his deep-set eyes filled with iciness

I quickly wiped the smile off my face, shaking my head. "Nothing. I just thought of something funny".

Damon stared at me coldly. "What’s so funny? Share the joke, maybe I’ll laugh too."

Truth be told, I was so stressed out that I could hardly find anything funny

Clara was still in the shower, and the hallway was deserted, so it was just me and Damon.

"Actually, nothing’s funny.I didn’t laugh. You must have seen wrong."I dropped the act, "Why don’t you go and make up with your girlfriend? It’s normal for couples to fight and reconcile. You shouldn’t take it too hard."

"What’s it to you?" Damon responded coldly

It wasn’t any of my business, but wasn’t he the one dragging me into this?

Since it wasn’t my business, I decided to close my door and get back to work.

Damon stopped me, "Why are you here? Why are you living right next door to her?"

"What’s so strange about that? Don’t worry, I’m not here to stalk your girlfriend I have no interest in her" I answered aloofly

As Ariel’s boyfriend, didn’t Damon know that Soul Enterprises was competing with my family’s company for the same counter supplier?

Even I had discussed the company’s affairs with Jones. If he didn’t know about this, then there might be some problems in his relationship with Ariel.

That’s when Damon glanced into my room. He heard faint sounds of water and furrowed his brows, "Is Jones with you?"

He probably thought Jones was the one in the shower.

I looked back at the bathroom, neither denying nor confirming his suspicion, "That’s none of your business. I’m going to bed. Goodnight"

"That’s interesting. He actually came out?" Damon blocked the door, his eyes gloomy

What he said was strange, as if it were impossible for Jones to come with me. After a moment’s thought, I understood

"You told his parents he was with me last night, didn’t you?" I stared into Damon’s eyes, accusing him

Damon raised an eyebrow, his silence was a tacit admission.

I knew he was a lowlife!

Having nothing more to say to such a person, I closed the door.

Clara came out of the bathroom after her shower. She curiously asked, "Who were you talking to earlier?"

"My assistant dropped off some documents." I casually answered, then settled down to look through the files.

I slept well that night, but I had no idea if Ariel and Damon had made up next door.

In the District, my main goal was to negotiate with Scarlett Enterprises, but for some reason, despite having made an appointment, we kept failing to meet up.

"Ms. Brooks, what should we do now?" My assistant was visibly anxious

At that moment, I was dining with her at a restaurant near Scarlett Enterprises. Once again, they failed to show up at the agreed time and place.

"Let’s wait a little longer." I tried to control my own nerves.

My continuous failures were Ariel’s successes. Although I was anxious, all I could do was patiently look for solutions.

After dinner, I was preparing to leave when unexpectedly I ran into a woman. It took me a moment to recognize her. The brown-haired woman who had removed her nose and lip rings looked a lot more proper.

Zoe was thrilled to see me, "Eliana, What brings you here?"

"I’m here on a business trip. You?" I was also surprised. What a coincidence.

Zoe happily replied, "I live around here. And Damon’s here too, so I came back to bug him a bit."

Zoe made no attempt to hide her interest in Damon. Every time she mentioned Damon, her eyes hit up.

So she was from Dreamscape District. I smiled, "I see. Good luck!"

"I will definitely try my best’ Even though I know he’s not a good guy. I can’t resist the urge to conquer him, haha" Zoe’s laughter drew the attention of others

"Alright I have work to do, so I’ll be going. We’ll catch up next time." I waved goodbye to Zoe.

After leaving the restaurant, I told my assistant to go back to the hotel. I decided to make another trip to Scarlett Enterprises.

Just then, a black Mercedes with local plates slowly stopped in front of me. The window rolled down, revealing Ariel’s smug expression,

"Eliana, what are you doing here?" Ariel asked, feigning concern.

"You didn’t have to stop just because you saw me" I responded coldly

Ariel sighed, "I just couldn’t bear to see you wasting your time here. I’ve already met with Mr. Dylan. We had a lovely chat. He even sent a car to drive me back."

So she wanted to flaunt her success

But this time, her boasting did put some pressure on me. If I failed this time, I would have to give up some of my mother’s shares.

I felt a heavy weight on my heart.

"There is still a chance before you sign the contract. You don’t need to show off prematurely." I replied calmly.

"What chance do you have? Your mother is in a coma, you’re not familiar with the company, and your father can’t publicly be involved in this matter. Who do you think Mr. Dylan will choose" Ariel confidently gave her analysis

I couldn’t deny it, she was stating facts. Many large companies, once hit by bad luck, would suffer one blow after another, only getting worse and worse. Ariel suddenly switched gears, bringing up the argument she had with Damon that night. "Eliana, no matter how much Damon and I fight, I’m still his girlfriend. With him by my side, you’re no match for me!"

"You’re implying that he’s been helping you in this partnership?" I asked.

"What do you think?" Ariel deliberately avoided answering directly. She tossed the question back at me and then told the driver to take off.

My fists slowly clenched. If Damon really did meddle in this, then he had seriously crossed a line. He was always stirring up trouble for me and then playing the hero

I stood alone at the side of the road for a bit, trying to calm down, but somehow Damon appeared behind me. Zoe was with him.

Zoe greeted me with a huge smile, while Damon asked me with an annoyed look, "What are you doing spacing out here on your own?"

"There are lots of cars going back and forth here. It’s dangerous, you know!" Zoe warned.
