Chapter 206: Chapter 202

Damon was, of course, a total control freak. I’ve always known that. But he couldn’t just run my life!

So, when he doesn’t love me, I should just stay away from him, and when he does, I should immediately play along?

"I thought you’ve changed." I was really disappointed. "But it turns out, my resentment towards you and my suffering mean less to you than your control freak tendencies"

Damon’s eyes flickered, but he didn’t say anything.

What a joke. With all the chaos at home, he was still trying to push me around.

"I won’t back down, Damon. If you think I don’t have it bad enough, feel free to keep tormenting me. For instance, you could’ve refused to help me with the Leger Corporation mess and left me to deal with it myself. That should satisfy your sick mind." I looked up, speaking calmly.

Damon gritted his teeth, "Sick mind? Is my inability to let you go also a sign of my sick mind?"

"But I’ve let you go. I’m not your property, you can’t just have me when you want me and discard me when you don’t. Damon, can you respect me a little? Is it because I used to be blindly infatuated with you, so you’re used to seeing me without any dignity?" I asked, feeling a bit bitter.

Once, I was like a satellite, revolving around Damon on the orbit he set, with no sense of self.

But that was by choice. I didn’t blame anyone.

Damon seemed frustrated by my words. He looked down at my hand and said. "Let go. We shouldn’t be talking through a door,"

I didn’t want him to force me to let go, so I let go first. With the door open, we faced each other.

"I know I messed up before. I can apologize a thousand times, ten thousand times, but all I want is a chance to make amends." Damon’s expression softened a bit when he saw me let go.

"That’s all in the past; can we not bring it up? I already have a boyfriend." I felt drained.

Damon’s expression changed instantly. His somewhat relaxed face turned tense again upon hearing my words.

I asked him, "What about Ariel? Emma? One was your fiancée, and the other was your rumored girlfriend. Have you ever thought about their feelings?" "No." Damon’s answer was firm, without any hesitation, even though both women loved him.

A long time ago, Luna warned me: never expect any decency from Damon.

I thought she didn’t understand Damon at the time. But she was right.

A man who is at the peak of his career is definitely not a good person.

"Damon, we’re not right for each other. Please, can we just stop this?" I realized that being sarcastic was useless, so I softened my tone and pleaded with -him.

Damon’s eyes were filled with hurt. He tried to touch my face but stopped after his fingers trembled, "I wish I could, but I cant. I once told you that I would never give up on you."

Hearing his words, I felt desperate.

I know him too well. As long as Damon doesn’t want to let go, I won’t be able to escape.

I fell into the mess | had struggled so hard to leave.

Since words won’t work, I would just stay silent, and tried to leave.

I had barely taken two steps when Damon grabbed me from behind. He buried his head in my neck, as if begging. "Can you give me one fast chance? You’ve tolerated me for ten years. Can’t you give me a little more time?"

"Let go of me." I felt a pang in my heart, but I regained my composure the next second.

"I can’t let go. If I do, you’ll drift further and further away from me. When we first divorced, I thought you were just mad at me and that you would come back to me after a while. It wasn’t until our child passed away, until you released those recordings, until you left the country without a word, that I realized I was really losing you." Damon’s voice was filled with regret.

I forced myself to ignore his words and tried to break free from his hold.

Facing my silence and struggle, Damon eventually let go.

I didn’t look back at him; I just walked quickly into the house, slammed the door shut behind me, and locked it.

I didn’t know if Damon had left. I turned on all the lights and ran up to the balcony of my bedroom on the second floor. From there, I could see the front gate. There was no sign of Damon outside the gate. He must have left.

I felt a bit relieved I must admit, when Damon held me and said those words, my emotions were stirred.

Then Jones called

"Are you asleep? I just got home" His gentle voice came through.

I finally calmed down, "I was about to go to sleep. What about you? Why aren’t you sleeping after getting home?"

"I miss you; I wanted to hear your voice." Jones’s love talk was so straightforward, "Don’t you miss me?"

"We’ve only been apart for a short time, and you..."I responded shyly

"Good night" said gently

After hanging up. I stared at the ceiling.

Each time I get stuck in my memories, thinking together

In a whirlwind of thoughts, I fell into a deep sleep. I had a long dream. and led me in a different direction

But in the middle of our sprint. Damon popped up again,

When i woke up, my head was pounding like a drum, and my body temperature Turned out, I had a fever

"Cough cough cough "A fierce coughing fit hit me next, along with.

I grabbed my car keys, thinking I’d drive myself to the hospital but before i could almost passed out.

My father was out of town for work, so I first called Luna.

"Luna, where are you?" I asked groggily from my bed.

"I’m at the hospital Albert started throwing up and having diarrhea out of nowhere, which scared the crap out of me!" Luna responded.

"What the hell? You better get him checked out properly." I advised her worriedly, then hung up.

Next, I dialed Clara, who was on her way to a business trip.

When I called Sofia, she was having dinner with her parents and Aaron.

Since everyone seemed busy, I finally got through to Jones.

The phone rang for a while before someone picked it up. I quickly asked, "Jones, are you free?"

"Sorry, he’s in the shower." A young female voice replied.

I was taken aback and quickly checked the name on my phone. It was indeed Jones. But why would a young woman answer his phone?

Before I could ask, she hung up. I was already feeling sick, and this just made my mood plummet.

I didn’t want to doubt Jones’s loyalty, but his family was against us being together, so I couldn’t help but overthink.

When I tried to call him again, his phone was off.

Just as I was about to go downstairs to find some fever medicine. Damon called.

I hung up immediately. I leaned on the wall and the stair railings as I made my way downstairs, then began searching for medicine in the living room. Suddenly, there was a strong knock on the door. I glanced at the front door of the living room and heard Damon yelling outside, "Eliana, open up!"

How did he get inside the yard? I frowned, then remembered | hadn’t locked the yard gate last night.

I didn’t answer him; I just continued looking for medicine.

"If you don’t open the door, I’ll call the property management!" Damon warned.

I scoffed. The property management wasn’t his to boss around; could he really get them to open my door?

Then it was quiet outside. I collapsed onto the couch, exhausted. I didn’t know where my mom kept the medicine box, so I couldn’t find the fever medicine.

I had no choice but to order medicine delivery

Just as I was about to place the order on my phone, I heard the front door being unlocked.

I was surprised, then saw the door being pushed open. A property staff member politely said to Damon, "Mr. Coleman, the door is open,"

Thanks, appreciate it "Damon nodded at the property staff, then let them leave.

I thought I should get a new door

Damon walked in and casually closed the door behind him. I wanted to confront him seriously, but my discomfort made my words weak, "What are you doing here?"

Without saying a word, Damon walked over, bent down, and put his hand on my forehead to check if I had a fever.

He quickly scolded me, "You’re burning up! Are you trying to cook yourself?"

"None of your business I’ve already ordered medicine." I jerked away from Damon’s hand

Frowning, Damon went to the kitchen, came back with some pills and a glass of water, and handed them to me.

Seeing the pills in his hand, I couldn’t help but ask, "How do you know where we keep our medicine?"

Damon replied, "I saw your mom get them from there the last time I was here."

I was speechless. Turned out that the person who was actually being careless was me. I rarely paid attention to such details. I didn’t expect Damon, my ex-husband, who seldom came over, to remember.

Health is most important. I can’t harm my body just because I’m upset.

"Thanks."I took the pills and water and gulped them down.

The medicine didn’t kick in immediately. I still felt unwell. Damon watching me made me feel even more uncomfortable. I said, "I’ll be fine after the medicine works. You can go now."

But Damon sat down on the couch and asked, "Why didn’t you think to ask for my help?"

How did he know I contacted so many people?

"Mitch told me. When you were talking to Luna, she noticed something was off with your voice, so she asked Clara and Sofia " Damon explained

I closed my eyes to rest and lazily responded, "I thought I could tough it out."

Damon opened his phone camera and turned the screen towards me, "Look at yourself! You’re as red as a monkey’s butt!"

I looked at my reflection in the camera. My cheeks were indeed as red as a monkey’s butt.

I didn’t say anything; I just closed my eyes again to sleep, but my stomach soon started growling. I hadn’t eaten anything since I woke up, so I was definitely hungry now.

"I’m not hungry" I looked at Damon and lied calmly.

Damon didn’t say anything. He got up and headed for the kitchen again. I was startled. Was he going to cook for me?

In all the years I’ve known Damon, I’ve never seen him cook

To my surprise, Damon only found an apple from the kitchen and gave it to me, "Eat something first."

"Okay. You can go now." I took the apple and urged Damon again.

"Hold on," Damon frowned and said, "Don’t be in such a rush to kick me out."

I was indeed in a rush. His words from last night were still echoing in my ears. After one night, being alone with him again was awkward.

I quietly ate the apple. Only after I finished did Damon ask, "Where’s Jones? Even if you didn’t want to ask me for help, you should’ve at least looked for him, right? Isn’t he your boyfriend?"

Mentioning Jones reminded me of the strange woman’s voice. Who was she? A woman who could answer Jones’s personal calls definitely couldn’t just be an ordinary friend.

But I didn’t want to tell Damon about the issues between me and Jones, so I brushed it off, "He went back to work. He’s very busy. I don’t want to waste his time"

"Weren’t you the one who used to call me twenty times just for a scratch?" Damon frowned, "Why are you worried about wasting Jones’s time?"

I couldn’t answer because I indeed used to do such overly sensitive things.

Back then, no matter what minor thing happened in my life, I would share it with Damon. If I got a little hurt, I wouldn’t miss the chance to get his attention and care

Luckily, Damon’s phone rang at that moment, interrupting our conversation. He answered the call and got up to open the door.

He came back with two large, insulated boxes. The boxes contained seven or eight dishes, all aromatic.

"Dig in," Damon said, plopping a knife and fork in front of me. "I’ll take off once you’re done eating"

I looked at the mountain of food on the table and asked, "Isn’t this a bit too much? I can’t finish it all by myself"

"Should I join you then?" Damon casually picked up another set of cutlery.
