My heart fluttered a bit, and I found myself looking at that photo a few seconds longer than I intended.

Jones’s face was void of any smile, but he wasn’t cold either. The young woman sitting across from him was captivating when she smiled

I found it amusing that I thought Damon and Ariel looked perfect together just earlier.

And now seeing Jones with his blind date, I thought they made a good pair too.

"He told me it’s just for show, Mr. Coleman You needn’t worry" I said, keeping a poker face and even a small smile, The lady behind you seems a bit pale

With that, I turned and left.

Once I found a quiet corner, I started scanning the crowd for familiar faces, quickly getting a rough layout of the crowd in my head

I wanted to text Jones and see what he’s up to.

But I hesitated as I unlocked my phone. Would this be seen as me not trusting him enough?

Just as I was in two minds, a voice sounded from behind me, "Ms. Brooks "

It was Jones mother, I was taken aback and quickly turned around to see her smiling at me

"Mrs Smith, hello" I greeted politely

"Do you have a moment? Since we’re here, why don’t we have a little chat?" Jones mother ’s smile was on, but I could taste the iciness.

I knew this conversation was inevitable, so I agreed.

"Sure."

I followed Jones mother to a small balcony, and once the door was closed, the noise from the crowd was shut out, leaving us with a gentle breeze

Jones mother’s gaze scanned me up and down I wasn’t comfortable, nor did I enjoy it, "Mrs Smith if you have something to say, just say it"

Jones mother’s eyes sparkled, "Ms. Brooks , didn’t you promise me to keep a distance from my son and to reduce contact as much as possible? Then why did you end up accepting him and being together?"

"Mrs Smith, I apologize for not keeping my promise." I looked at her sincerely. "But Jones and I are adults now. We’ll handle our relationship ourselves. I hope you won’t oppose or interfere".

Jones mother stared at me for a long time, her face even colder after hearing my words

"Ms. Brooks , you’re an excellent woman. I’ve never denied that I’ve met your parents, and I know what kind of people they are, so I believe they must have raised an excellent daughter, but you and Jones are not suitable." Jones mother s words were still polite

"Can you give us a chance to try? I didn’t love Jones deeply, but I chose him, and I was willing to give it a shot.."

Jones mother was silent for a while but eventually shook her head, "You really are not suitable. Ms. Brooks . Do you know you might hurt my son?"

I frowned

She continued, "Because of you, he often argued with me and his father. And, the business relations between Coleman Co. and the Smith family are now broken. Do you know how much loss this has caused?"

Jones mother’s words left me speechless

I foresaw this outcome when i got together with Jones

"Mrs Smith, well face these together Since we chose to be together, we’ll find a way to resolve these issues" I replied sincerely

"Ms Brooks, regardless, I don’t support you two being together. We’re acquaintances. I don’t want to make things too ugly I hope you can voluntarily leave my son", Jones mother lost her patience seeing my determination, her face turning serious.

Just then, the balcony door opened again

Damon’s mother looked surprised to see us. "Mrs Smith, Eliana, what are you two talking about?"

I swallowed the words I was about to say and just smiled at Lisa "We’re just chatting " Jones mother ’s attitude softened a lot when facing Lisa, her face full of smiles.

" I know this might sound funny or even upset you, but I I want Eliana to be with my son".

Just moments ago. Jones’ mother was sternly warning me to stay away from her son, and now Lisa was here asking me to give Damon another chance.

Jones mother didn’t look too happy

"Eliana, I know you’re with Jones now but love can be a fair competition. Can you give Damon another chance" Lisa begging me

I already gave her a clear answer last time I knew she would be the type to pester, so the only reason I could think of purpose to help me

I still declined gently "Mrs Coleman, Damon and Ariel are getting engaged,"

Lisa sighed and let go of my hand,"object to them"

Jones mother glanced at me with a flicker of complex emotion in her eyes. She probably didn’t understand why Lisa was asking this of me. Even though my family background was good, Damon had a lot of choices with his conditions.

"Mrs. Coleman, as long as they love each other, that’s all that matters. Ariel now has a new identity, and she’s no longer just a college student. It’s great that she’s with Damon." I comforted.

"No way, I will never agree!" Lisa suddenly got all worked up.

I knew she had a bad impression of Ariel, and arguing any further would be pointless. So, I didn’t respond to what Jones mother just said and headed straight back to the party hall.

As for what Lisa and Jones mother would chat about, I had no clue.

I was already in a bad mood today, and after what just happened, I felt even more annoyed. So I found my mom and told her I was heading home early.

"Alright" My mom was still chit chatting with some business partners and quietly acknowledged me.

Before leaving, I went to the restroom and ended up walking into an awkward situation.

At the restroom door, Ariel was on her tiptoes, with her delicate arm around Damon’s neck. Damon had to bend down to match her height.

I stopped in my tracks, quickly thought for a moment, and decided to turn around and leave.

"Eliana!’ Ariel spotted me and immediately called out.

I turned around to see Damon staring at me..

Ariel had already let go of him and took a few steps forward to face me, "I was just joking around with Damon Hope you’re not upset."
