Chapter 163: Chapter 160

When Luna and Mitch arrived, my parents had just gotten there too.

They were both deeply concerned about me and also very worried

My mom was getting a bit superstitious, "Eliana, do you think this city is against you? You’ve been abroad for two years, traveling all over the place with no problems, but as soon as you come back, trouble finds you?"

"Nonsense, Eliana grew up here, how could it be against her? I think it’s Damon who’s bad luck for her. Ever since she married Damon, everything’s gone downhill" my dad said sternly

"Dad, Mom, Damon and I have been divorced for two years, how could he still be causing me trouble? Besides, he was the one who brought me to the hospital " This time I was a bit helpless as they were getting more and more superstitious.

Luna wanted to say something, but she stopped herself. In fact, she also thought that Damon was causing me trouble

After a while, my dad took a phone call and went off to work. My mom went to ask the doctor about my condition, leaving only Luna and Mitch with me.

I then mentioned calling Damon, "I’ve already talked to him, there shouldn’t be any issues."

"How did you persuade him?" Luna curiously asked.

I repeated the conversation, which left Mitch a bit puzzled. In the end, he helplessly said, "Good luck to them"

Unfortunately, Mitch’s well wishes didn’t seem to have any effect.

The next day Luna brought me some news. The two guys had been beaten to a pulp and dumped in a ditch by a mountain road. If someone hadn’t heard their weak cries for help, they could be dead by now.

I was a bit shocked, not wanting Damon to do something like this. If things went wrong, I should take the blame.

"Eliana, the city’s not that big, you’re bound to run into Damon if you stay here. I still think he’s got an ulterior motive, he wants to get back with you!" Luna said while slicing an apple for me.

Thinking about this gave me a headache and I even considered going on another two–year world tour.

I dodged the topic, "Luna, are you sure those two guys didn’t call the police?"

"Won’t they be embarrassed if they do?" Luna was angry, "They deliberately hit your car, trying to kill you, they even confessed who was behind it. The guy pulling the strings was Lewis, that so–called Lewis!"

My heart sank, I couldn’t figure out why Lewis was targeting me.

Just as I was deep in thought, Luna suddenly handed me the sliced apple and stood up, a teasing smile on her face, "Jones’s here, I gotta go!"

With that, she grabbed her bag and left.

I silently held the apple, looking at Jones standing at the door.

"Where are you hurt?" Jones’s brows furrowed as he quickly approached my bedside, inspecting my condition.

I shook my head, "I’m fine, just need a few days rest, how did you know I was in the hospital?"

I wasn’t sure if Damon did it on purpose, but the hospital where Jones worked was closer to where my accident happened. Yet, he took me to this farther one.

"Mitch told me," Jones’ face was stern, "Lewis deliberately had your car hit, do you know him?"

I didn’t, so I told Jones about Joshua getting beaten up and the incident at the Chemical Plant.

I suspected Lewis found out about these two incidents and wanted to retaliate against me.

But I didn’t know how he found out

Jones’s already stern face darkened even more after hearing this.

He got up to leave and I quickly grabbed his hand, "Where are you going?"

"I’m going to find Lewis!" The fury that erupted from Jones gave me a start, he’s usually very calm.

I hurriedly stopped bum, "Don’t go, I’ve already reported to the police, they’ll take care of it. The guys who hit me have already been taught a lesson by Damon, that’s enough, don’t do anything unnecessary"

When I mentioned Damon’s name, there was a subtle change in Jones’s eyes, a hint of chill.

But he didn’t ask any further, only tightened his lips, covered me with the blanket, then left.

I felt a bit weary seeing Damon and Jones getting hostile and even violent because of me, it made me uneasy.

During my past life, they fought over me like this, Ariel was able to stay calm, I admired that.

In the evening, Joshua hurried over with some fruits to see me.

He was worried just like me, that Lewis found out I helped him and decided to retaliate.

"Eut I really don’t know what I did to piss him off!" Joshua was frustrated, "Eliana, I’m sorry, I got you into this."

"Don’t say that, we’re not even sure it’s because of that, don’t overthink "I comforted him.

As we were talking, the sound of high heels approached from outside. I looked up to see Ariel standing in the doorway.

She looked like a walking luxury item now, expensive but not fitting for her.

She was nowhere near as stunning as the first time I saw her in the coffee shop.

Ariel wasn’t expecting to see Joshua here, her face showed surprise then quickly turned cold.

Joshua averted his eyes, his face a mix of emotions.

"Eliana, I heard you had a car accident, so I came to see you" Ariel placed a box of supplements at the corner of my bed, playing with her curly hair, "Where’s Damon? Why hasn’t he come to see you?"

She looked around, disappointment in her eyes.

"What are you doing here?" Joshua suddenly spoke, his voice filled with resentment.

"Joshua, you’re still with her, aren’t you?" Ariel’s smile was sarcastic, "What’s the difference between you and me? We all want a better life, what right did you have to expose my chat logs with Damon two years ago?"

Joshua wasn’t what Ariel described, he angrily grabbed the box of supplements and threw it on the floor, "I’m not you, I’ll never betray my feelings for money, you can leave!"

I just watched silently, this once loving couple, now unrecognizable.

Ariel chuckled coldly, "Hmph, you’re so noble. Joshua, during the time we’ve been together, I’ve been with you to eat discounted meals, buy clearance clothes, and ride the bus. Isn’t that enough? Do you know how much it costs to get a new heart? I’m afraid I’ll die when I’m with you!"

Joshua turned red at her words. He must still hold some sweet memories in his heart, but to Ariel, these memories seem dirt cheap.

"So what if you’re a good student, Joshua? Do you really think you can make a difference?" Ariel looked at Joshua with a sympathetic gaze.

Ariel spoke passionately. It was clear that she was deliberately provoking Joshua, belittling all he had.

She didn’t notice that Damon had arrived and was standing right behind her, hearing every word.
