The Reaper's Wicked Obsession
Chapter 89: The Ugliness Inside

Chapter 89: The Ugliness Inside

The pressure in the air shifted. Isadora didn’t need to think twice about who he spoke of. This was Rav’s house after all.

"In Daudi’s name, I wish I could reap his soul," he growled like he was having an internal battle about... deciding.

Wasn’t Rav his friend? Why would he think such a thing?

Isadora was frightened for Rav’s sake and angry at the thought of Kraven hurting him.

"What do you want, Kraven?" she asked, in a whisper.

Wishing he could leave and let her be. Each time he was around, she didn’t trust herself, it was like her body would have a mind of its own.

He grinned only in response.

"You’re drunk."

Kraven sneered. "Do I sound drunk?" A look flashed in his silver eyes. "You look angry because I would hurt your precious Rav. Worry not, love, I need his annoying ass for my glorious purpose. He can live a little bit longer."

"G-Glorious purpose?"

Isadora couldn’t help the curiosity storming through her. What could be the purpose of a person like Kraven? She never thought of it until now.

"What glorious purpose?"

He dropped her hair and said. "To take the world."

"Why would you want something like that?"

"What else can a madman want?" He said taking her chin and yet she remained still. "I want the world at my feet."

Isadora searched his eyes, and suddenly it wasn’t the maddening look or amusement that always held his eyes.

Kraven’s smile slowly faded, her ambers fixed on his like she was trying to strip his soul bare. He didn’t like it.

"Your eyes say a different thing, it doesn’t look like a man who wants to take over the world."

He chuckled softly. "Are you trying to amuse me, Isadora?"

"No. I just see something more." She succumbed to the urge and caressed his cheek.

Unknown to her, red weaves slipping into his head. At the sensation Kraven’s eyes rolled at the back of his head.

Isadora gasped as shiver shot down her spine, the mere sensation shaking her to the core.

Tears slid down her cheeks as her body trembled. The horror, the chaos she felt living inside his head—it was just a glimpse, and yet it was heavier than anything she had ever felt.

It was distorted and unstable, and within it, an entity stared back at her, fueling her with intense fright.

What was it?

The air was knocked out of her when Isadora’s back slammed against the wall, his large hand wrapped around her throat, squeezing until the air was almost cut off.

She opened her eyes, horrified to the core and her heartbeat momentarily stopped.

His eyes, the sclera blackened and his silver orbs shone with a murderous glare. Weaves of shadows emitting from body and black veins covered his neck up to his chin.

Weaves of shadows leaking from his body, and black veins covered his face.

"K-K-K-Kraven." She tried to speak, struggling against his hold.

"K-K-Kraven."

He can’t hear her.

Her body grew tired and her hits became weak.

"K-Kraven, p-p-please..."

Kraven blinked as if snapping back to reality. His feature morphed into pure rage as recognition drowned his gaze. The veins on his jawline bulged, pulsing as he clenched his teeth

"Do that again... I’ll break your neck," he growled, the mere sound of it, shaking her entire body.

"Do you hear me?!"

Isadora nodded in tears as a whimper escaped from her.

He yanked away and she dropped to the floor, coughing as she held her throat.

She saw it.

Kraven didn’t know how she did it. She saw the ugliness in his head and the thought rattled him to the core. It took everything in him not to rip her apart with his bare hands.

"I’m sorry," Isadora said, sobbing.

His entire body froze.

Isadora couldn’t look at him, she was frightened to the core of... his mind.

"I’m sorry," she said again, her body shaking, wrecking between sobs and fright.

When a soft breeze passed she raised her head and found him gone.

She leaned against the wall and broke into a fit of tears, murmuring the words "I’m sorry" over and over again.

Kraven’s teeth clenched as he gripped the stone basin hard, his fingers digging into it, causing cracks.

He lifted his gaze and stared at the cracked mirror, his vision distorted as everything around him vibrated violently, The earth beneath him trembled.

But it was all in his head.

"No one can ever love you..."

A voice echoed.

"You’re broken."

His body distorted and his reflection in the mirror flickered—one moment burying his face in his hands, another laughing deranged, the next pulling at his hair, then staring eerily still.

Kraven stared at the mirror as the shakes intensified, blood streaming down his eyes, dropping to the stone basin.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

A boy with dark hair and blue eyes, stood before a woman on her kneels.

It was Kraven, just five winters old.

"You can never love anything, not even yourself." The woman kneeling before his small frame said, her voice firm and strong.

"You’re unworthy of love and incapable of loving anything."

"You’re just like your father, mad and beyond redemption."

She took his hand holding a dagger and lifted it up to her chin.

A deja vu to when he held it to Isadora’s throat.

A smile curled her lips as she cut open her throat.

Five winters old Kraven watched unfazed, holding the bloody dagger as the woman dropped to the ground, blood gushed from her throat.

Everything fell silent, his heartbeat, the shakes, leaving only the sound of the woman choking on her own blood.

Cold tears streamed down his face.

She stretched her hand out to him, her mouth unable to produce any words, after minutes of agonizing struggle... her hand dropped to the ground, the light fading away from her eyes.

The woman died with a smile on her lips... because she was free.

Her body suddenly distorted and showed Isadora in place of the woman. A smile on her lips... and she was free too.
