The Reaper's Wicked Obsession
Chapter 72: Run, Isadora, Run!

Chapter 72: Run, Isadora, Run!

They found shelter in a hollowed tree and Vanya explained they shouldn’t light fire to keep the bone eaters away.

They had covered themselves in mud to rid their scene but light in the dark was another thing that attracted them. They were supposedly more aggressive at night.

Thankfully the moon was at its highest peak, but Isadora found it difficult to sleep, her eyes moving to Vanya fast asleep in a corner.

She pondered how she could be so comfortable knowing there was something out there that eats bones.

The mere thought of it still shook her to the core—she thought the phantoms of the Abyss were terrifying creatures.

Isadora sighed, resting her head back on the ground, eyes on the open entrance, nothing could be seen except trees but a movement caught her eyes making her alert.

She sat up instantly. "Vanya," she whispered, but she didn’t budge.

Slowly crawling toward her she placed her hands on her shoulder to wake her up. "Vanya!"

She froze when she saw beads of sweat across her face, her expressions contoured in pain. She placed a hand on her forehead and it was burning hot!

"Oh no!"

A branch snapping caught her attention, the sudden realization that they were not alone overwhelmed her deeply.

But the bone eaters shouldn’t be able to detect them because of the mud and there was no light, so what could be out there?

She turned her head back to Vanya, taking labored breaths. There was nothing she could do now, except protect her.

With a shaky hand, Isadora grabbed one of her swords and crawled out from the hollow tree, she rose to her feet, her raspy breath filling the area as she held her sword with both hands.

Her erratic eyes were moving and searching for any possible movement.

"Come out!" she yelled, limping forward.

She felt a presence behind her, the sensation made her turn—but there was nothing. Yet, she was certain something was there.

She could feel eyes watching her from the dark.

"Hello, love."

She gasped, turning with her blade aimed but it barely reached his neck.

"Kraven," she voiced in shock, taking a step back. "You’re not real."

Was her mind playing tricks on her again?

Kraven raised an eyebrow at his words, silver eyes held intrigue. "Hmm," he made a sound, displeased.

In an instant he was behind her, hands gripping her neck in a tight hold and the other at her wrist causing the sword to drop to the ground.

"Is this real enough for you, love?" he murmured, in a dark tone, his hot breath kissing her skin and causing goosebumps to take over.

He sneered. "And why are you covered in mud?"

She gulped, her brain trying to process the situation. He’s real! He was so close she could feel the heat from his body.

His spicy cinnamon scent dulled her senses.

She shoved that thought away, allowing her body to feel the anger she needs, a reminder of why she shouldn’t drown.

"What are you doing here, Kraven?"

He clicked his tongue. "Did you honestly think you can hide from me, Isadora? Play dead and I wouldn’t know?"

"I didn’t picture you as someone capable of worrying."

His body stilled against hers and she wondered if what she said got a reaction out of him.

In a swift move, he spun her around to face him, his savage gaze sending a jolt of fear through her.

"What happened in that challenge? I know you, Isadora, you do not yield."

"Whatever happens in a hunt, I was almost eaten," she replied with venom laced in her tone, glaring at him like she could puncture a thousand holes in his head.

Like a snap of a finger, a smile stressed his lips. "Are you angry at me, love? That look in your eyes says so."

"Is it enough to desire my blood?" he asked, suddenly captivated by the hunger in her gaze.

It was the most beautiful look he had ever seen in her eyes, and her amber irises had never had such a desirable glow.

The urge to freeze this particular gaze and keep it as a display was greatly tempting.

"I can’t kill you... not yet," she replied in a cold indifferent tone. "But I’ll one day"

He took her jaw in an iron grip and all she did was frown in pain as he leaned closer, their noses touching.

His shaky breath was like music to Isadora’s ears knowing she got a reaction out of him but his words were like the twisting point of everything that sparked between them, in the most forbidden way.

"You have no idea what that does to me," he growled, his own hunger rising to the surface.

"Let me go," she said, attempting to move away from him not wanting to be in the same breathing space as him and listening to his deranged words.

"You know I can’t do that, love," he murmured and she stared at him, his lips wide in a smirk.

"What do you even want from me?" she asked, this time more desperate to know why she so entirely consumed him and why he stirred these twisted emotions within her.

She hates him.

His soul.

His existence.

"The answer to that question, love," he leaned more until their lips almost touched.

She placed her hands on his hard chest in a weak push. Her eyes begged for something she couldn’t properly voice.

"I really wish there was one," he murmured, before crashing his lips against hers.

She gasped, allowing him deeper access to explore. Sparks surged through her in waves, but she bit his lip hard, to stop whatever was being conjured.

She would not let herself drown and let him get his way.

Isadora bit deeper, enough to draw blood and that seemed to make him ease his action prompting her to push away from him and take a step back.

Her raspy breaths filled her ears, her body on fire and her cheeks hurt, burning from the rise of anger and hate.

She never thought she could ever loathe anyone to this extent and wished nothing but doom for them. Kraven had succeeded in becoming that person.

Kraven licked his lips, amused and more drowned in than she expected.

"Go away!" she yelled at him, tears almost building in her eyes.

Why was he making her feel this way? Hatred burned through her veins and yet torn between this was an undeniable pull.

Why have the olden gods forsaken her again?

"I will, love.." he replied with a dangerous edge to his tone and an eerily glow to his silver eyes.

The bone eaters were suddenly a welcomed enemy for Isadora, anything as long as she didn’t have to be caged here with him.

"If you can outrun me, first..." he added, taking a step closer and she instinctively took one back.

"Run, Isadora..." he growled, his voice raw and animalistic, like a beast on the verge of unleashing wrath. "...run!"
