Chapter 33: His Prey And Her Predator

Chapter 33: His Prey And Her Predator

Isadora swung her legs over the edge of the bed, the stone floor chilly beneath her feet, causing the cold to rush down her spine.

Her bare feet tapped closer to the circular window with a raven crest. She pressed her palms against the hard wall and rose to her tiptoes, but she could not glimpse what was laid out there.

Her eyes scrutinized the spooky room for anything she could use to support her height until they landed on a box in a corner.

Smirking, she hurried and hauled it to the window ignoring the loud grating it made.

Climbing onto it, she used her tiptoes again and finally got a peek.

"Alda!" she gasped at the city nestled deep within the cavern. It was unlike anything she had ever seen and caused her lips to part and her eyes to widen in marvel.

The buildings were attached to the crooked rock of the mountain, sitting tall and firm—golden lights illuminating the dark like stars in a void from the windows.

Bridges made of stone and iron fixed through the levels, linking the towering structures for passage. Lanterns line the pathways, its soft glow reflecting in the dark waters below, which wind through the city.

The city felt alive. It was so beautiful, but she couldn’t shake the anxiety that gripped her to the bone.

Slowly, she moved away from the window until her butt found the bed.

This is the outlaws stronghold, it had to be.

She began to mull deeply about her situation, her hands fidgeting together and her eyes fixated on the floor.

The soft splash of water pulled her away from her thoughts, turning, she found an open rock in the shape of a door, she had not noticed until now.

Was that a way out?

Her feet already carried her because the fear of being locked again gripped her harder than she intended to admit.

If this was a way out she would take it, however, what she found wasn’t exactly as she hoped.

The path led to a bathhouse.

As Isadora stepped closer, the air grew warm and thick with the scent of damp stone and herbal infusions.

The soft sound of trickling water echoes through the chamber, coming from the raven fountains built into the walls, their mouths constantly pouring fresh, hot water into the pools.

’How old is this place?’

But it was not the dark beauty of the panorama that caught Isadora’s eager attention but the male at the center of the pool, bareback displayed, rune tattoos with ink so dark like it was done not too long ago like letters—words she was eager to understand.

"Care to join me, Isadora?" his gravel voice echoed around the bathhouse, causing her pulse to quicken.

He stood waist-deep in the water, his back broad and rugged, muscles rippling beneath brutish, wet skin—the golden brown complexion glowed with the dim lighting.

Isadora watched deeply immersed as his hand trailed through his damp shaded silver hair, droplets cascading down his neck, trailing over his back.

Her breathing hitched and she turned away. "I-I didn’t know you were here"

She wouldn’t have dared to come at all if she knew, this was no better than stepping into the line of scorching flame.

"Where else am I supposed to be?"

She gulped taking a peek, thankfully he still had his back turned to her. Her cheeks heated as her eyes traveled through his immoral body.

She had to admit he had the kind of body that could appeal to any female.

’Why in god’s name would you think that?’ she mentally scolded herself. ’He’s cruel, He’s cruel, He’s cruel, He’s cruel, He’s cruel, He’s cruel!’ she manifested.

"Not in my prison" she replied.

"Prison?" he sounded more fascinated than amused and then he turned.

Isadora turned her back to him quickly, her heart hammering in her chest on the verge of leaping off her ribs.

"Is it not?" she asked.

He chuckled. "If my chamber is your prison then so be it"

Her cheeks burned. So this was his chambers and that was his bed she slept on like she did not worry about the world.

"I’ve forgotten how barbaric you can be," she said with gritted teeth.

"Go bare"

She froze. "W-What?"

"Go bare and join me, Isadora"

Unable to comprehend his words, she twirled, he had his unsettling silver eyes on her like a hawk. Her chest rose and fell heavily.

"Do I’ve to repeat myself?" he tilted his head to the side. "I despise doing that"

Her fist clenched on her skirt, choosing to remain frozen in time rather than adhere to his wishes. "No" she voiced faintly and he raised an eyebrow.

In a heartbeat, she took a step backward and turned but she yelped when he was suddenly before her.

’Don’t look down, Don’t look down, Don’t look down, Don’t look down!’ she forced her wide eyes to his face as she drew backward and he took steps closer.

"Don’t come any closer" she said and a chill found her back when it met the cold wall.

"Make me" he trapped her between him and the wall. "Make me"

She gulped, her shaky hand nearing her thigh. He seemed to have caught that action because his hand moved at lightning speed, grasped her thigh, and raised it to saddle his waist.

Isadora squealed but she was already pointing the tip of her dagger just beneath his neck.

This close she noticed how his hair was pulled back, damped with water, prompting her to see a scar just on his right brow.

An adrenalin of excitement coursed through Kraven at her defense, he was more impressed by this. "You changed the strap to your left" he glared at the weapon.

’Left handed’ he thought before chuckling and then it turned into a demented laughter.

Isadora watched, alert and confused. Trying her best to ignore the angle in which her leg was raised, so high up she could feel the air brushing her core.

"You’re mad" she voiced in a shaky tone, the madness dancing with pure delight in his silver eyes.

His laughter died and he closed the distance between them, their nose touching and Isadora was frozen in time.

"Welcome to The Raven Court," he declared. "From here onward I’m your predator and you’re my prey"
