The Reaper's Wicked Obsession -
Chapter 126: Stupid Isadora
Chapter 126: Stupid Isadora
Isadora eyed the stairs that led to his residence. Her mind screamed at her that this was a very bad idea.
She knew what happened the last time she came to find him. It still made her heart ache.
And yet here she was again.
’Stupid, stupid, Isa,’ she thought, shaking her head. No amount of words could describe her behavior at this pending hour.
She should turn back.
Yet, she pushed forward, an invisible pull dragging her to him. Her body had a mind of its own as she walked toward the last thing she could ever want.
But she didn’t want to stop.
Each step she took felt more painful than the thousand steps of endurance, it didn’t match the intensity of this.
But she didn’t stop.
Her speeding heartbeat increased as she stopped at the stone door, slightly ajar. She gulped, pressing her hands against it, and peaked.
It’s dark. Why was there no light?
She gasped softly when the stone door jolted fully open like it had a mind of its own as if inviting her inside.
This only skyrocketed her nerves beyond control. However, she took a step forward, hesitating, another followed until she stepped into the room fully.
Only a single candelabra was lit, and it barely offered lighting to the vast space, but there was a much calmer light coming from an area.
There was an opening leading toward another space she hadn’t seen before.
Isadora swallowed hard before walking toward it. A breathless gasp found her when her eyes took in the view.
It was the moonlight shining through, where large windows were built into the mountain body, giving a view of the clouds that could only be seen when you reached the top.
It was beautiful and Isadora couldn’t take her eyes off it, once again she was amazed by the construction of this place and how everything blended perfectly and became one with the mountain.
Isadora’s eyes peeled away from the memorizing view and landed on Kraven standing just a few paces away from the window, head tilting as if to observe the view.
The moonlight cast a soft glow on his golden brown skin, his hair was not in his warrior braids, allowing the strand to fall on his forehead.
Isadora’s lips parted as she took in the sight of him. Her eyes trembled, heartbeat speeding beyond control.
"Does the view please you, love?"
At the sound of his gravelly voice, goosebumps found her skin.
"Yes," she replied.
He chuckled deeply but did not attempt to look at her. This caused a twisted sensation in her chest.
The sudden need to have his silver eyes pinned on her, gazing upon her like she was the only breathing thing that existed.
When did she start craving so much? From the man she despises with every cell in her body? Who had stolen her away, taken her freedom, and thrown her into the clutches of death?
And yet he was there to prepare her for the impossible, save her when she didn’t need it.
"What are you doing here, Isadora?"
Her pulse raced. "I-I had to see you."
At her reply, Kraven veered his gaze to her as he raised an eyebrow. "Had to?" He pinned her with his silver eyes.
"You’re foolish for coming here, alone... in the dead of night, walking into the monster’s lair," he murmured, leveling his eyes to her parted lips and then to the rest of her.
Completely vulnerable and yet so pleasant.
"Do you have any idea how thirsty I am right now?"
She swallowed hard at his words, the mad glint in his eyes was enough to send her running but she didn’t, she remained there, still and utterly mesmerized.
This confused Kraven. Where was that fear he loved to feed on? The way she looked at him... it was different.
"Don’t make me repeat myself, Isadora, what are you doing here?" He asked in irritation.
Isadora’s jaw clenched, refusing to shrink beneath his stare, he was a few feet away and yet the whole place felt smaller, like she was trapped here with him.
"I know your burden," she replied softly.
"Do you?"
She noticed the look on his face like he already knew what brought her here.
"You were watching?"
He said nothing and his silence was all the answer she needed. At the gnawing realization, her fist clenched at her sides.
"You didn’t choose this and yet you embrace it."
His amusement didn’t fade, he was more entertained but there was something in his eyes that flickered, something only she could see and understand, it had always been there.
Loneliness.
He was surrounded by all these people who had respect and loyalty toward him, a disciple and commanders who would walk through fire for him despite knowing he would one day succumb to the madness, to the point of no return.
And yet there was so much loneliness.
"What does that change?" Kraven asked, his voice was softer but dangerous in a different way. "Nothing." He replied his own question.
’It changes everything,’ she thought, but she couldn’t voice the words out.
The pressure that hung between them, made it impossible to voice out many unsaid things. There was so much she wanted to say and at the same time, there was nothing to say.
The only response Kraven got was her walking toward him, fearless and stupid.
’Stupid girl,’ he thought.
Did she have any idea what she was doing right now? Knowing what drives him to the point of no return, knowing what lives inside his head?
The gods knew he wanted to peel Logi’s skin off for telling her all those things.
"Leave, Isadora," he warned, hands twitching.
The need to touch her and the need to erase her breathe. It consumed him so greatly his entire body froze, his predatory gaze on her like he wanted to lounge and take every single air until there was nothing left.
Isadora did not heed his wishes, she stopped just a few paces away. Within reach.
A mistake.
He grasped her neck, in a swift move, causing the hood of the cloak to slip off her head.
"Didn’t you hear what I just said? Are you truly stupid?"
