The Prime Minister's Darling -
Chapter 929 - 929 425 Face-Slapping (Two More s)
Chapter 929: 425 Face-Slapping (Two More Chapters) Chapter 929: 425 Face-Slapping (Two More Chapters) The middle-aged man beside said, “What? The crown prince? Wo Yang is his brother-in-law, why would he want to kill him?”
The young man chuckled, “That you don’t know. The crown prince’s wife has always disliked the behavior of her family, almost cutting off all contact with them. Do you still remember the incident on New Year’s Day when Suo Bridge collapsed? It was the Wo family acting under the guise of the crown prince’s wife, closing the bridge and roads, forcing the people who went to offer incense to crowd the bridge, which ultimately led to its collapse.”
Another scholar spoke up, “I remember that incident, His Majesty even punished the crown prince’s wife.”
The young man said, “Yes, after that, the crown prince’s wife stopped dealing with her family. But this Wo Yang, who couldn’t change his nature, actually made a scene at the Imperial Palace to ask the crown prince’s wife for silver. When he didn’t get it, he even cursed her as a hen that couldn’t lay eggs!”
The original words were not like this, but they had become quite mean after being distorted by the rumor mill.
“In a fit of rage, the crown prince just had Wo Yang…”
The young man made a throat-slitting gesture with his hand.
Gu Jiao heard this news at the Medical Hall, where the second shop owner was gossiping with her.
“They say it was the crown prince,” said the second shop owner.
He had secured a joint cooperation slot with all the major shops at the commerce association, firmly stepping on Huichun Hall, walking with a bounce and speaking with gusto.
Gu Jiao responded with an “Oh” and said nothing more.
“What do you think? Was it him?” the second shop owner continued to gossip.
Of course it wasn’t.
Based on her understanding of the crown prince, he wouldn’t do such a thing to his brother-in-law.
The identity of the real killer was almost obvious.
It was truly eye-opening that the Prince of Ning could come up with such a roundabout method to save the country.
Yes, it’s not easy to find a mistress with status, but isn’t a blood-related brother ready-made?
Siblings of similar disrepute can serve as substitutes just the same.
However, Gu Jiao hadn’t expected the Prince of Ning to be so ruthless, to just kill Wo Linlang’s brother without hesitation.
His fierceness and decisiveness indeed resembled the Emperor from the rumors, and the crown prince would be no match for Prince of Ning’s decisiveness even with another decade of self-cultivation.
Such a person, if born in turbulent times, would surely be a conqueror.
“Ah! Second Shop Owner! Miss Gu! It’s terrible, terrible!”
While they were speaking, Shopkeeper Wang rushed in, sweating profusely, “There’s been an accident at the workshop!”
The workshop mentioned by Shopkeeper Wang was the drug manufacturing facility of Miaoshou Hall, located in an open area to the west of Capital City. It was originally a small brewery that closed down and had been bought by the second shop owner.
The largest production line there was for ointment for wounds, taking up two whole courtyards, followed by Snowflake Cream and some tonics, each occupying one courtyard.
By the time Gu Jiao and the second shop owner arrived on the scene, the fire had been brought under control, but the stock of ointment for wounds had been completely burned.
“Oh no, that was over a thousand bottles of ointment for wounds! We were supposed to deliver them at the end of the month!” Shopkeeper Wang said with heartfelt pain.
“Were there any casualties?”
That was Gu Jiao’s first question.
Shopkeeper Wang called over the person in charge of the workshop, who said, “Everyone was working at the time, and no one was in the warehouse, so no one was hurt.”
“Good,” Gu Jiao nodded looking at the burned-down warehouse, “I’ll speak to the military camp about delivering a few days late. Second shop owner, you go see if you can quickly buy a new batch of medicinal materials.”
“Eh, okay,” the second shop owner replied. And then he inquired about the cause of the fire, “How could this happen? Didn’t I tell you all to be careful not to bring any flame near the warehouse?”
Looking distressed and anxious, the person in charge said, “I don’t know what happened, sir! I inspect the workshop every day, once every two hours during the day, and twice at night! I’ve never noticed anything amiss… It’s like the fire suddenly started on its own!”
Gu Jiao went to the ruins to look around. The open flames had been extinguished, but there was still a wisp of black smoke coming from the rubble.
Gu Jiao touched the ground with her fingertip and then sniffed it at her nose, saying lightly, “Someone did set the fire. Somebody poured palm oil around the back wall.”
“What? Arson? Who did it? An inside job or—?” The second shop owner’s face darkened, “Gather everyone here, I want to thoroughly investigate!”
Gu Jiao stood up indifferently, dusting off her hands, “No need to ask, it wasn’t them who set the fire.”
It was the Prince of Ning.
It seems that her visit to the Princess of Ning had angered the Prince of Ning.
Actually, she hadn’t revealed much to the Princess of Ning, merely saying that the Princess of Rui had offended someone she shouldn’t have, and that person might retaliate against the Princess of Rui. As for who that person was and what they had done, Gu Jiao didn’t say a word.
