Chapter 690: 325 Slap in the Face (Double update)_3 Chapter 690: 325 Slap in the Face (Double update)_3 The butler responded, “Yes!”

In Zhan Country, presenting the horoscope compatibility document was the first step in proposing marriage. Only if the eight characters did not conflict could the formal proposal begin. However, the Chancellor of the Yuan Family, caring deeply for his granddaughter, agreed to let her meet the prospective groom and see him. If he proved agreeable, they would immediately accept the marriage proposal.

The Grand Tutor of the Zhuang Family had full confidence in his grandson’s appearance and did not worry that the Yuan family would reject him.

Moreover, the decision about this marriage largely depended on the opinion of the Chancellor of the Yuan Family; whether his granddaughter approved of it was merely a concession from him, as a grandfather. Regardless, he would still push for the marriage.

Unexpectedly, however, they received news through the carriage driver from the butler at Qingfeng Building that evening that the Chancellor of the Yuan Family had called off marriage discussions!

“What? How could this happen?” The Grand Tutor of the Zhuang Family rose from his seat, shocked.

The carriage driver stuttered, “I… I don’t understand! The butler didn’t say much, but it seems… it seems… it’s a serious matter… You might need to go there in person…”

The butler’s silence, naturally, meant it was inconvenient to say anything. Could something major have happened?

The Grand Tutor of the Zhuang Family hurried to Qingfeng Building, and coincidentally met the Chancellor of the Yuan Family coming out of the building, his expression cold.

The Grand Tutor greeted him politely, as befitted colleagues, “Chancellor Yuan.”

“Hmph!” Chancellor Yuan glared at the Grand Tutor disapprovingly, “I never expected that from your honourable Zhuang family would emerge such a despicably low person. I was completely mistaken about you in the past! You better watch out, Grand Tutor Zhuang!”

The Grand Tutor was completely confused.

What did all this have to do with being despicable and mistaken?

Chancellor Yuan had no intention of explaining further, he stepped into his carriage and left.

“Where is the Prince?” the Grand Tutor asked with a stern face.

“He is… upstairs!” The carriage driver quickly led the Grand Tutor to the second floor.

The second floor had already been cleared by the butler, leaving only the relevant parties.

When the Grand Tutor arrived at the appointed room, he unexpectedly came across someone he certainly didn’t expect to see.

“Old Marquis Gu?” The Grand Tutor furrowed his eyebrows.

The Old Marquis had also just arrived, coming up from the stairs on the other side.

The two met unexpectedly, and the Old Marquis didn’t look pleased either.

Just as the Grand Tutor was about to enter the room, the Old Marquis beat him to it.

The Grand Tutor’s brows furrowed even deeper.

It was bad enough that Chancellor Yuan had embarrassed him, now even a retired marquis was disrespecting him?

Was his position as the highly influential Grand Tutor just for show?

Soon, the Grand Tutor understood why the Old Marquis acted as he did.

The room was in complete chaos. Prince Zhuang Yuheng, with disheveled clothes, was kneeling on the ground. His thigh was covered in blood, and a bloody dagger lay discarded nearby.

Next to him, Gu Jinyu was curled up, shivering and wrapped up in a quilt, sobbing uncontrollably.

“Beast!”

The Old Marquis stomped forward and struck the prince with a whip.

Prince Zhuang Yuheng did not dodge and took the blow squarely, his clothes were torn, and his chest bled where the skin had been ripped open!

“Stop!” the Grand Tutor commanded sternly!

However, the Old Marquis did not stop and gave the prince another lash. Although Prince Zhuang Yuheng was somewhat skilled, he wasn’t an expert. The Old Marquis’ whip struck deep, and within a few lashes the prince was sprawled on the ground, coughing up blood!

“Gu Chao, stop!” The Grand Tutor rushed over, positioning himself in front of Prince Zhuang Yuheng. He glared at the Old Marquis angrily, “Are you intending to commit murder under the imperial court’s watch? Speak your grievances calmly!”

The Old Marquis trembled with rage, “Calmly? Your precious grandson has soiled the reputation of my marquis residence’s daughter. If someone were to do the same to your Zhuang Family’s daughter, would you speak calmly with them?”

The Grand Tutor looked at the half-dead Prince Zhuang Yuheng, then at the weeping woman tightly wrapped in the quilt. He gritted his teeth and demanded of the butler, “What exactly happened!”

The story began when Prince Zhuang Yuheng went to attend the meeting.

After Prince Zhuang Yuheng finished his duties, he went to Qingfeng Building with the Zhuang Family’s butler and waited in the predetermined room for the Yuan Family.

Chancellor Yuan met a cabinet official at the foot of Qingfeng Building. He chatted with him for a few moments while Yuan Baolin went upstairs first.

Who would have thought that Prince Zhuang Yuheng would distract the maids and drug Yuan Baolin? Yuan Baolin escaped by jumping out of the window. As the drugged Prince Zhuang Yuheng wandered around, he happened upon Gu Jinyu, who was walking by the entrance. He took her into the room… and took liberties with her.

It was not an act of possession, but it was enough to completely ruin a maiden’s reputation and innocence.

If there ever was a case of misfortunes never coming singly, this was it!

The Grand Tutor was seriously doubting if he had forgotten to check the calendar before setting out that day. How else could he be facing so much misfortune in a single day?

“There must be something fishy about this!” The Grand Tutor believed in his grandson’s character, “Hengheng wouldn’t have done something like this!”

Old Marquis Gu roared back, “Of course you would take his side, he’s your grandson! But the evidence speaks volumes. My noble marquis residence’s precious daughter has been violated by your Zhoung Family’s despicable beast!”

Whether the Old Marquis cared about Gu Jinyu was one thing. However, the fact that someone dared to offend the Marquis of Tingan was another matter altogether. Even if it wasn’t Gu Jinyu but another innocent maiden who had been wronged today, he would still give Prince Zhuang Yuheng a sound whipping.

He was utterly reprehensible!

The Old Marquis found this resentment difficult to swallow.

But so did the Grand Tutor.

A perfectly good marriage proposal had been ruined so, on top of angering Chancellor Yuan, he now had a reason to fall out with the Marquis of Tingan.

He forcefully repressed his anger, bowed to Old Marquis Gu, and said with an enduring patience, “I implore Old Marquis Gu to remain calm. Please give me some time to investigate the truth. Regardless of the outcome, I will provide a satisfactory resolution to the Marquis of Tingan!”

After Old Marquis Gu left with Gu Jinyu, the butler helped Prince Zhuang Yuheng sit down on a chair and used a ripped piece of clothing to bandage the prince’s injured leg.

Fire seemed about to spurt from the Grand Tutor’s eyes; he clenched his fists so hard they creaked. A throbbing vein pulsed on his forehead as he questioned the butler, “Where were you when this happened? How could you let Hengheng and Miss Yuan be alone in a room?”

The butler shuddered.

With a pale face and bloodless lips slightly parted, Prince Zhuang Yuheng said weakly, “I asked the butler to go to the kitchen to hurry the dishes. It’s not the butler’s fault.”

“Is that so?” The Grand Tutor’s sharp gaze fell onto the butler.

The butler guiltily lowered his head.

Of course, he hadn’t been sent away by Prince Zhuang Yuheng but by someone else.

But he could not reveal the person’s identity.

He had promised Prince Zhuang Yuheng.

Unperturbed, he glanced at Prince Zhuang Yuheng. The prince, having lost so much blood, was swaying, but he managed to muster the last of his strength to say, “It was my fault. I noticed Miss Yuan had no feelings for me, so I took an extreme measure. I sought to create a fait accompli, forcing Miss Yuan to marry me.”

The Grand Tutor refused to believe him, “Where did the drug come from? Don’t tell me you bought it from Qingfeng Building! There was no chance for you to realize her intentions and then go buy the drug. The timing doesn’t add up!”

Prince Zhuang Yuheng said weakly, “I bought it beforehand, just in case.”

The Grand Tutor was furious, “Zhuang Yuheng!”
