Chapter 594: Empress Dowager 286 Has Arrived! (First update) _3 Chapter 594: Empress Dowager 286 Has Arrived! (First update) _3 A guard chased into the alley on horseback.
With a silver needle, Gu Jiao knocked the guard off his horse. She then quickly mounted her own, as did Gu Chengfeng, who sat behind her.
Just then, Tang Yueshan arrived and lunged at them with a palm strike.
Gu Jiao spurred her horse to dash away, but it was a split second too late. The residual force of the strike hit Gu Chengfeng’s back.
Gu Chengfeng spat out a mouthful of blood immediately.
His face twisted in agony. Why had he chosen to ride the same horse as her? Couldn’t he have opted for another equally good horse?
The Marshal Residence’s horses were indeed exceptional. Apart from the one Gu Changqing rode, the fastest horse Gu Jiao had ridden was this one.
The horse run fast, but its route was… awkward.
Seeing the horse seemingly running in a curved path, Gu Chengfeng inquired with a bewildered look, “Do you even know how to ride a horse?”
Honestly, Gu Jiao answered, “No.”
“What?”
Gu Chengfeng was flabbergasted!
He felt as if he were about to die from being jostled around. His internal organs seemed to be shifting places while Gu Jiao’s erratic horse riding was causing him further injuries, even though Tang Yueshan’s previous strike hadn’t caused many internal damages.
After being knocked around for a while longer, Gu Chengfeng began to sense something wrong, “Where exactly are we heading to?”
“The Imperial Palace.” Gu Jiao said.
Gu Chengfeng: “Why are we going to the Imperial Palace? Have you lost your mind? Once we are in the Imperial Palace, we won’t be able to escape no matter how hard we try! Hey, hey, hey! Can you stop… Stop… Ah!”
That damned girl!
Gu Jiao had been to the Imperial Palace several times and each time she had intentionally gone via a different route. So she knew which one was the quickest.
However, what she could think of, Tang Yueshan could as well.
Not to mention that Tang Yueshan was a native of Capital City who knew the layout better than anyone else.
About half a mile away from the Imperial Palace, Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng were caught by Tang Yueshan and his entourage.
Tang Yueshan quickly encircled them with one horse while archers from the Tang Residence stood ready. Each bowstring was pulled taut with at least three arrows. If they were to shoot, the two of them would be riddled with arrows.
Gu Jiao’s horse stopped.
Sitting astride his majestic mount, Tang Yueshan slowly approached Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng. He came to a halt about ten steps away.
He tightened his reins and looked disdainfully and resentfully at the pair, “I’m giving you a chance, who sent you? Why harm Mingming? If you confess clearly, I’ll give you a quick death!”
“Your lives are now forfeit. You poked your noses where they didn’t belong and heard what you shouldn’t have. The most I can do is to spare you some torment and let you die quickly.”
Grinding his teeth, Gu Chengfeng retorted, “You, the hellish! The one who disregards propriety! One who bedded his own sister-in-law…”
Wham!
Tang Yueshan’s palm strike, aimed towards Gu Jiao, instead struck Gu Chengfeng and sent him crashing on the ground!
Distance meant nothing to his target?
Gu Jiao estimated Tang Yueshan’s strength in her head and concluded that, at her current skill level, she was no match for him.
Gu Jiao pondered, then pulled out a small notebook from her bosom, wrote down with a charcoal pencil, “Alright, I confess.”
Tang Yueshan: Is she a mute?!
Gu Jiao scribbled two lines: “Indeed, we were sent by someone. That person is…”
Gu Jiao’s handwriting was illegible. Tang Yueshan moved closer in order to decipher the name at the end.
Before he knew it, Gu Jiao had leapt into the air with a scalpel in her hand. She straddled Tang Yueshan’s horse and held the blade to his neck from behind.
He was tricked!
Quite clever for a mute girl!
However, if she thought this would keep him under control, then she was overly naïve!
Tang Yueshan grabbed Gu Jiao’s scalpel, risking a severed hand in the process. He threw her off the horse.
He himself leapt off the horse and shouted, “Release the arrows!”
Gu Jiao: “Aren’t you afraid of becoming a porcupine?”
Tang Yueshan scoffed, “I’m wearing the Golden Silkworm Armor, immune to swords and spears!”
Gu Jiao: Ugh, lost to a piece of equipment!
Hundreds of arrows were ready to be loosed!
The color drained from Gu Chengfeng’s face!
Just then, the gates of the palace opened with a resonating thunderous sound, as if an ancient portal to the dark night was being unveiled.
“Her Majesty, the Empress Dowager, is arriving–”
