The Prime Minister's Darling -
Chapter 1006 - 1006 477 One
Chapter 1006: 477 Chapter One Chapter 1006: 477 Chapter One Gu Jiao stepped out from the Renshou Palace and happened to bump into Yujin, who had just paid her respects to Empress Xiao.
“Aunt Yujin,” Gu Jiao greeted her.
Yujin responded with a delighted smile, “Is that Doctor Gu? Did you come to visit the Empress Dowager?”
Princess Xinyang, having looked into Gu Jiao, surely knew of her relationship with Empress Dowager Zhuang.
Gu Jiao nodded.
“Did the Princess come to the palace as well?” she asked.
“Ah, no, only I came. The Empress summoned me while the Princess…” Yujin spoke up to this point and could not help but smile helplessly. She didn’t keep anything from Gu Jiao, “The Empress wanted to know about Young Lord Xiao. The Princess didn’t wish to speak further about it, so she feigned illness to stay at the Mansion, sending me to report back to the Empress.”
As for what the Empress asked Yujin, Yujin simply excused herself as a servant who knew nothing.
Empress Xiao could use punishment on others but could not do the same to Yujin, for two reasons: one was that Yujin was innocent, and the second was that Yujin was a confidante of Princess Xinyang. If Empress Xiao dared to touch her, Princess Xinyang would not let the matter rest.
There was no need for family to reach that point.
The two of them walked together towards the Palace Gate.
Gu Jiao never liked to pry into other people’s privacy, but ever since Yujin confirmed Xiao Liulang’s identity, she no longer treated Gu Jiao as a stranger.
Yujin initiated the conversation with Gu Jiao, “Actually, the Princess and the Empress aren’t very close.”
She used the word “close,” which was a measured and softened euphemism. In reality, the relationship between the two was very cold. The reason traced back to the discord between Marquis Xuanping and Princess Xinyang. As the younger sister of Marquis Xuanping, Empress Xiao naturally wouldn’t blame her own brother.
Thus, she bore some prejudice against Princess Xinyang.
Princess Xinyang was not the kind to warm up to indifference, leading to the current tepid situation between the two.
“Sigh,” Yujin sighed, “Both the Empress and the Princess are very fond of the Young Lord. When he was around, the two would occasionally talk. But ever since… the Young Lord had his incident, the Empress and Princess have scarcely interacted.”
The only time they met was when Princess Xinyang last returned to the capital and visited the palace to pay her respects to the Emperor and Empress.
However, this was not a case of sister-in-law affection but rather a matter of sovereign and subject protocol.
Yujin didn’t talk to Gu Jiao about these things because she hoped that Gu Jiao would mediate between them or to remind Gu Jiao not to speak about things Princess Xinyang had left unsaid.
She was simply gossiping with Gu Jiao.
Gu Jiao was an excellent listener. First, it was the Consort of Prince Rui; now, it was Yujin; both of them were very willing to share their private thoughts with Gu Jiao.
While they talked, they arrived at the Palace Gate without realizing it.
Gu Jiao had come in the small third son’s carriage, but it just so happened that the carriage had broken down, the wheel was a bit loose, and he was squatting down to repair it.
Yujin then said to Gu Jiao, “Doctor Gu, let me take you back.”
Gu Jiao did not refuse. After telling the small third son, she boarded Yujin’s carriage.
She could tell that Yujin was still eager to gossip, with more to say.
After getting into the carriage, Yujin thought of something and asked Gu Jiao, “By the way, is Lady Marquis about to give birth soon?”
Gu Jiao replied, “She has already given birth.”
Yujin was surprised and asked, “Wasn’t it supposed to be next month? Did she give birth so soon? Is it a boy or a girl? Are they all well?”
The word “all” clearly showed her concern for the Yao Family as a whole.
Gu Jiao bowed her head in gratitude, “It’s a boy, both mother and son are healthy.”
Yujin smiled with joy, “That’s truly wonderful. This joyous news must be shared with the Princess. Doctor Gu, do you mind making a trip to Vermilion Bird Avenue?”
“No problem,” Gu Jiao said.
Yujin didn’t only care to gossip about her own concerns; she was also very considerate of Gu Jiao’s circumstances. On the way, she mostly asked questions about the baby and the Yao Family.
Gu Jiao wasn’t much of a talker but gave very concise answers. Those who didn’t know her might misconstrue her brevity as being dismissive.
Yujin, however, understood that Gu Jiao answered each question with sincerity.
Yujin liked such a girl—without sly tricks, without flattery, without superficial courtesy—with all appreciation and friendliness hidden in the details.
As the carriage entered Vermilion Bird Avenue, Yujin lifted the curtain to peek out and saw from a distance what seemed like a carriage parked in front of their Courtyard.
“Huh? That carriage looks somewhat familiar,” Yujin murmured.
Gu Jiao followed her gaze and said, “It’s Marquis Xuanping’s carriage.”
This carriage appeared from time to time at the Medical Hall, Guozijian, and Bishui Alley. Gu Jiao had long memorized its appearance.
