Chapter 131: 129 is just a hundred million.
The car continued to move forward.
The sky was getting darker and darker. There had been a hint of light before, but now it was completely dark.
In the rainy night sky, not a single star could be seen.
Realizing the casual tone in his own voice, Gong Yi hesitated for a moment and then began to explain,
"I am quite worried that if things continue this way, the world will never see the sun again. Your proposal is excellent, building a lighthouse, at least so that those who trek through the night can find their way to Xiang City."
"So, how much money? You decide."
What was he blabbering about? Hmm, very righteous!
"Hahaha, sure, sure, it’s just a small amount, only a billion~"
Hua Mi truly didn’t bargain. She only had that little bit of cement, and there was no other cement in the world of such quality; a billion wasn’t expensive.
Gong Yi just laughed on the other end,
"I don’t even know what you need all that money for."
"Okay then, I’ve arrived,"
No sooner had the words left her mouth than two bright lights pierced the darkness, landing on Hua Mi.
A tall and impressive figure stepped out from the garrison off-road vehicle. Gong Yi took a glance at Hua Mi next to the car and then turned to look at the tattooed man brought over by the garrison.
As soon as the tattooed man saw Gong Yi’s garrison commander’s epaulets, he immediately shouted loudly,
"That woman is a murderer, she’s a murderer, she has killed many people~~ Kill her, Commander, I want to report her!"
Since the Xiang City Garrison was so by-the-book, they should catch the real killer first!
The tattooed man struggled in the hands of the garrison.
Gong Yi glanced at Hua Mi.
Hua Mi rolled her eyes and slumped against the smashed-up car, clutching at her chest,
"Oh~ I’m so delicate~"
She remembered that Fang Xin always acted like this, feigning a frail heart, which often triggered a strong protective instinct in men.
Today, Hua Mi decided to give it a try.
Gong Yi raised his head, and without a sound, the two soldiers from the garrison took the tattooed man away.
As members of the garrison, everyone from top to bottom was extremely disciplined... so none of them had seen Hua Mi kill anyone.
They couldn’t just take a fragile girl into custody and beat her until she admitted to killing someone just because someone jumped out and called Hua Mi a murderer.
Being disciplined did not mean that they should overreact or correct to a fault.
When everyone had left, even the thug with a bullet hole between his eyes in the car behind Hua Mi was dragged away.
Gong Yi walked up to Hua Mi, who was still awkwardly pretending,
"That’s enough."
He raised his hand and pushed on Hua Mi’s forehead with his palm, grunting discontentedly,
"No one saw it, so stop acting. Tell me what’s going on?"
Her little act paled in comparison to Fang Xin’s; it really was far from comparable.
Hua Mi stood up straight, smiling,
"What’s going on? I don’t even know what he’s talking about."
She certainly wasn’t foolish enough to admit to taking out Qin Ziran and several thugs.
She couldn’t make things difficult for Gong Yi, could she?
"I’m such a gentle and quiet girl, you can tell at a glance I’m not one to fight."
Facing Gong Yi’s skeptical gaze, Hua Mi’s eyes were filled with sincerity.
Standing before her, Gong Yi stood straight, examining Hua Mi, the little liar. She wouldn’t admit it.
In fact, she had never told the truth in front of him.
"Cao Feng and the others came back this time, and I noticed something."
Gong Yi stood casually, with his long legs at ease, and he also gave Hua Mi a forced smile,
"How come they have nothing better to discuss than ’The Million-Dollar Bride?’ They’ve even watched up to the fourth season... What do you think that’s about?"
Talking about this gave Gong Yi a headache, wondering when the soldiers under his command had developed a taste for soap operas?
They’d all picked up the line, "Woman, you’ve caught my attention," and it had become a catchphrase among the garrison.
It was, "Yo ho, woman, you’ve caught my attention," or "Here’s a million, leave him!"
Gong Yi felt that either he was going crazy, or the soldiers under him had collectively turned into hopeless romantics.
He had questioned a couple of soldiers who came back from B City, only to find out they’d been buried by two landslides there.
Gong Yi couldn’t quite identify what he felt when he first heard about it; he was initially furious.
Because before he left, he had made Hua Mi promise time and again to take good care of herself and to evacuate at the first sign of danger.
And what happened? She got buried by a landslide!
But soon enough, Gong Yi’s anger gradually faded. She was no ordinary woman; she handled the situation well—not only was she unscathed, but she also ensured that there were no casualties among his soldiers.
If one could ignore the garrison’s penchant for saying "Woman, you belong to me," those who had been buried by the landslide appeared pretty normal...
Well, okay, that wasn’t the key point. The key was Hua Mi had returned safe and sound.
And so, Gong Yi once again became Hua Mi’s scapegoat, as Cao Feng and the others claimed it was thanks to him sending men to dig out half a tunnel that they could get out of B City’s supply depot so quickly.
Gong Yi had no choice but to nod and admit it.
"Oh, that, hahaha."
In the rainy night, Hua Mi laughed, feeling somewhat guilty. She suddenly looked up earnestly at Gong Yi,
"I just realized how good you look when you smile, you have dimples on both cheeks."
Would her future children also have dimples? Were dimples hereditary?
Hua Mi found herself somewhat looking forward to it.
Because she had turned off the colored lights on her protective goggles, Gong Yi could clearly see the envy and anticipation in her eyes.
Anticipating what?
His heart suddenly pounded wildly, and his ears began to burn, forcing him to turn his face away,
"What nonsense are you spouting? I asked you about one thing, and you ramble on about another! That’s not proper!"
Was it her first day of not being proper?
Hua Mi laughed cheekily and, with genuine interest, asked,
"Gong Yi, do your mom and dad have dimples on their cheeks?"
Gong Yi took a deep breath, about to speak, when a vehicle came speeding up behind him.
The car stopped, and a soldier jumped out,
"Commander, Yu Guanglin is missing."
A city’s commander disappearing wasn’t much of an issue at times like these.
But he still had to go and check it out in person.
Gong Yi turned around, back facing Hua Mi,
"I’ve got work to do, I’m leaving."
He really took a few steps towards his car but then stopped again, turned around, and shoved a gun into Hua Mi’s hand,
"Watch yourself and don’t harm innocent people; that’s not allowed."
He was a rule-breaker, yet a man of principles and limitations, and in times like these, sticking blindly to rules meant ending up like the other city garrison soldiers, not even knowing how they died.
So, while maintaining his principles and limitations, Gong Yi didn’t mind turning a blind eye to Hua Mi’s killings.
As long as she could handle it cleanly.
"And, take care of yourself."
With those instructions to Hua Mi, Gong Yi disappeared into the rainy night.
