Chapter 414: Chapter 226: Success (Making up for last night’s update)
Qing Yu’s "good intentions" were concealed behind the bronze mask, and his "good intentions" failed to reach Su Shiyun.
The Director of the Imperial Observatory defiantly faced death, spitting out two words, "Don’t even think about it!"
The Imperial Observatory oversaw the celestial patterns above and surveyed the geographical features below, serving in some aspect to safeguard the nation, naturally ensuring their loyalty.
Su Shiyun having become the Director meant he was unwaveringly loyal to Northern Zhou, to Feng Tianming.
"It seems that something of the utmost importance indeed occurred these past few days. My arrival was not mistimed."
If it was trivial, Su Shiyun would not have displayed such a desperate readiness to die bravely on the spot. Qing Yu felt sure he had made no mistake this time.
"Forget it, I never intended to force the information out of you anyway."
As A Night of Spring Rain in a Small Tower returned to its scabbard, the now-free right hand glowed with a dim, ominous purple light and pressed against Su Shiyun’s Heavenly Spirit.
"Mind Reading Technique."
Because of Qing Yu’s coercion, Su Shiyun reflexively began to recall the critical events of the past days in his mind, allowing Qing Yu to unearth the information he sought without wasting time.
But to ensure nothing was overlooked, a deeper probe was necessary.
"AAAAAH—"
The piteous screams never ceased from the mouth of the Director of the Imperial Observatory, a man willing to die rather than submit. Due to the urgency, Qing Yu had resorted to the most brutal method, inflicting tremendous mental trauma on Su Shiyun.
"Not good." Outside the Observation Tower, ’Cutting Absolute Saber’ Qi Junqiu, engulfed in battle with a master from Shadow Pavilion, also heard the continual screams. He immediately realized something had happened to Su Shiyun.
He wanted to rush to the rescue, but the master from the Shadow Pavilion was ensnaring him tightly, preventing him from taking even half a step closer to the Observation Tower.
If this continued, his mission would surely fail.
"Get out of the way!"
Qi Junqiu suddenly roared out, a departure from his previous cautiousness. Almost instantly, his long saber carved through the air with a domineering force, finally expressing the prowess of the ’Cutting Absolute Saber.’
"Decisive Cut!"
Blade Energy surged along the saber, and a massive Sword Gang shot out, piercing through the Observation Tower, its Sword Force unrelenting. It punctured directly through the Qi Shield formed by the Circulation Eight Extremes Array, reconnecting the Observatory with the outside world once more.
"Young man, you’re courting death!" The master from the Shadow Pavilion was furious.
He had assumed the ’Cutting Absolute Saber’ had lost its spirit while serving as the Imperial Family’s claw and tooth, and Qi Junqiu’s earlier fighting style had seemed constrained, showing none of the domineering essence typical of the Sword Path. But he never expected Qi Junqiu to have been biding his time before unleashing such a move.
The enveloping black mist began to dissipate, and from the enigmatic figure emerged a fierce and domineering Blade Energy. Even Qi Junqiu, known as ’Cutting Absolute Saber,’ fell far short in comparison.
Seeing that his agreed-upon quarter of an hour had been squandered, the master from Shadow Pavilion started to reveal his true abilities.
He too was a master of the Sword Path, his presence overwhelmingly surpassing that of Qi Junqiu.
"How is this possible? How could someone as sneaky as you manage to cultivate such Blade Energy? Do you even understand what a blade is?" Qi Junqiu screamed in disbelief.
He simply could not fathom that this shadowy, skulking black-clothed man was also a master of the Sword Path, following the same domineering blade approach as him, and that his attainment in this method far exceeded his own.
"What do you know about blades?"
In the indifferent retort, the master from Shadow Pavilion shaped his palm into a saber, and a sharp, domineering Sword Gang suddenly appeared.
"How is this possible?"
Qi Junqiu maintained his incredulous expression. He looked down at his chest where a straight wound slowly appeared across his torso, slanting slightly from the left shoulder diagonally down to the right, across the heart, bisecting it before exiting from the other side of his body.
"I don’t believe it."
After uttering these words, Qi Junqiu’s upper body, along with his right arm and head, slowly slid off his torso, stirring up a thin layer of dust upon the ground.
Until death, he couldn’t believe that he would die by the blade, and so quickly.
"Hmph, he was seeking his own doom!"
Dark fog once again enveloped the Shadow Pavilion expert, masking his face and figure in the dense blackness.
Had it not been for Qi Junqiu’s foolishness in breaking the Circulation Eight Extremes Formation, he wouldn’t have had to die. The sword force of the Shadow Pavilion expert was too domineering; if he had indeed struck with full force, the Circulation Eight Extremes Formation would have been broken, and he genuinely wanted to drag out a quarter-hour’s time with Qi Junqiu.
Alas, Qi Junqiu doomed himself by shattering the Circulation Eight Extremes Formation, and with it, the Shadow Pavilion expert’s reservations.
Under these circumstances, it was difficult for Qi Junqiu not to die.
The Shadow Pavilion expert’s figure blurred for a moment and then vanished from the spot.
When he appeared again, he was on top of the Observation Tower; Qing Yu had just set down the nearly breathless Su Shiyun.
"How did things go?" asked the Shadow Pavilion expert.
"Just finished." Qing Yu stepped to the side and, with a palm strike, broke open a hidden compartment in the wall, taking out the scroll inside and replying.
Su Shiyun’s use was greater than imagined, and although they already knew some insider information, the scroll was still important.
"Let’s go that way. Your formation has been broken, and the Imperial Palace will surely receive the distress signal sent by the Array here. There’s an old monster in the palace, and this old man dares not act recklessly in front of him," said the Shadow Pavilion expert indifferently.
’Old monster?’
Qing Yu reflexively recalled the night of the assassination attempt on the Eldest Prince, the frozen bedchamber, and the old eunuch with the exploding Primordial Qi Ball.
If the ’old monster’ referred to him, to be spoken of as someone before whom the recently formidable Shadow Pavilion expert would not dare to act rashly, then the old eunuch’s strength must be far greater than Qing Yu had imagined.
Go, hurry and leave.
The alarm bells in Qing Yu’s mind were ringing loudly as he promptly urged Feng Jiu to leave immediately.
Although that so-called old monster should be in the palace guarding the severely injured Feng Tianming, Qing Yu didn’t dare to gamble on the off chance.
If he gambled and lost, his life would probably be at stake.
After the three departed, sixty-four people in the surroundings were forced to hold back their restless True Qi and deploy the Heavenly Demon Disintegration Technique, their Qi Mechanisms converging once more.
Only this time, instead of blending harmoniously, they surged toward destruction.
"Bang bang bang—"
"Boom—"
The sounds of self-destruction were followed by a massive explosion.
The Circulation Eight Extremes Formation blew itself up, burying everyone from the Qintian Observatory, including the observers and the assassins brought by Qing Yu.
’This kid, quite ruthless!’ The departing Shadow Pavilion expert glanced back, inwardly commending Qing Yu’s ruthlessness.
Despite having long heard of Gong Ziyu’s heartless and ruthless nature, witnessing it firsthand was a different experience.
Able to coolly bury both his men and those of the Qintian Observatory, Gong Ziyu was indeed ruthless and decisive, no wonder the Shadow King had always favored him.
Unstopping, the three continued walking until they climbed over the Divine Capital’s wall and left the Divine Capital, only stopping in a forest outside the city.
"For what comes next, you should be able to handle it on your own, right?" inquired the Shadow Pavilion expert.
"Of course."
"Then this old man will take his leave first."
Having said that, the unknown True Pill Realm expert’s figure merged with the darkness of the night, silently departing.
