Chapter 319 - 131: Circulation of Six Voids
Chapter 319: Chapter 131: Circulation of Six Voids
"The ’Book of Changes’ must not be distanced, for it is the Dao and often shifts. Constantly changing and never dwelling, circulating through the six voids, the ups and downs are unpredictable, yielding and firmness transform into each other, indefinable and adaptable to change."
The term "circulation of the six voids" comes from the discussions of Qi in the "Book of Changes."
"The Zhou Yi," as one of the Three Interpretations of Changes and one of the Five Classics of Confucianism, indeed contains much of the Confucian doctrine. However, it was more than sufficient to assist Qing Yu in the evolution of the Eight Trigrams.
Moreover, Qing Yu himself had long contemplated this matter, and the preparation he had made in various respects was beyond count. The "Yin Yang Technique" of the Yin Yang Family, learned from Ning Bukong’s "Circulating Fire," the Zhenwu Sect’s Four Symbols Ultimate Skills, and the "Boundless Dreams" Yin and Yang transformative thunder – all these provided immense assistance for Qing Yu to achieve the Four Symbols Produce Eight Trigrams and comprehend the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique."
In the Heavenly Mechanism Divination Skill and the way of numbers, he also had a foundation in mathematics, along with the memories provided by Le Rushen, so there was no worry.
The "Taiyi Splitting Light Sword" was also one of the sources of the mental method for the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique." Its Yin and Yang giving birth to the two forms, the two forms birthing the Four Symbols, the Four Symbols producing the Eight Trigrams, and the Qi Union that followed were the essence of the eight threads of True Qi of the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique." Had he not lacked the "Guicang Sword" as a reference, Qing Yu would have likely already begun trying to produce the Eight Trigrams from the Four Symbols.
"Circulation of the Six Voids, the term ’circulation’ representing the changing flow of Yin and Yang, the interchange of heaven and earth. The six voids refer to Zhen, Kan, Gen, Xun, Li, Dui – these eight representing Heaven, Earth, Mountain, Swamp, Wind, Thunder, Water, Fire..."
"The positions of Heaven and Earth are set, the mountains and marshes communicate the Qi, thunder and wind accentuate each other, water and fire do not counter each other. The Eight Trigrams interlock, the past may be deduced, to understand the future is to go against the flow, hence the Book of Changes is the art of reversal..."
In the dark, secret chamber, Qing Yu sat cross-legged with closed eyes, the radiance on his face shifting endlessly, displaying countless forms, not one the same as another. Within his heart flowed myriad profound meanings, the Eight Phases differentiated, causing silent ripples around him.
Within his Dantian, the Yin and Yang Qi combined and transformed, giving birth to the Four Symbols: Taiyin, Taiyang, Shaoyin, Shaoyang. Afterward, from Taiyin came Kun and Gen, from Taiyang came Qian and Dui, from Shaoyin came Zhen and Li, from Shaoyang came Kan and Xun – and thus Heaven, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Water, Fire, Mountain, and Swamp were all transmuted and born.
At the moment of their birth, the Eight Qi entwined and twisted, waxing and waning, showing colors of red, orange, yellow, white, green, blue, purple, black. Suddenly, a surge of red brightness, with the black Qi weakening as if it could barely persist, then the black Qi growing strong as the white all but vanished.
This was precisely a sign that the Eight Qi were having difficulties maintaining balance, attacking and conflicting with one another. If this combative state continued, the Qi would quickly become uncontrollable, evolving into calamity. At that point, the backlash of the Qi Force against one’s body would unleash a series of disasters, leaving Qing Yu dead without a trace.
This sort of calamity was mentioned early in the original text, and the solution was to strengthen the weak with the strong, fill the empty with the full, supplement insufficiency with surplus, emulate the Heavenly Dao, and practice the way of Heaven which reduces the surplus to aid the insufficient.
With the "Heavenly Son’s Qi Observation Skill" within his body, Qing Yu could precisely grasp the measure of each of the Eight Qi, finely adjusting to reach equilibrium. Thus, the method of reducing the surplus to aid the insufficient was relatively easy and convenient for Qing Yu.
However, this would undoubtedly lead him down the old path of Wan Guicang as depicted in the original text, where each action had to be taken with the fear of impending disaster, restraining him, leaving him powerful yet unable to maximize his potential to the fullest, which was exceedingly frustrating.
You must know that the way of Martial Arts is a path of conflict – a Martial Artist who doesn’t fight is no Martial Artist at all.
The way of harmony has never suited Martial Arts. Without conflict in Martial Arts, the world wouldn’t have so many complications.
Moreover, the prevalence of Martial Arts in this world stems not only from possessing tremendous strength but also from the longevity attainable through practicing Martial Arts.
Still, the original "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique" didn’t seem like a way of Martial Arts for Qi Cultivation; it was more like a human weapon fitted with a massive destructive device, leaning more towards science. Liang Siqin, because of using the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique," didn’t live past a century, which might be acceptable in the original world, but in this one, for Divine Origin Realm and even True Pill Realm Martial Artists to have a lifespan of less than a century would be laughable.
"So, I will follow the Heavenly Dao to balance the Eight Qi, but I will not pursue a path of harmony, leaving the Eight Qi unchecked. I have the ’Ten Thousand Paths,’ capable of controlling myriad paths. Though the Eight Qi are strong, they cannot escape my grasp."
Qing Yu suddenly opened his eyes, his True Qi spilling out around him, displaying the phenomenons of Heaven, Earth, Mountain, Swamp, Wind, Thunder, Water, Fire – each in their turn, "Circulation of the Six Voids, the Method of All Things."
The torch burning in the secret chamber suddenly flared up, its flame shooting towards the ceiling of the chamber. Below on the ground, fissures abruptly appeared, leaving deep marks, and under the transformation of True Qi, the ground began to moisten, showing signs of bricks and stones becoming mire.
The air was filled with the emergence of Wind and Thunder, echoing with howling and thunderous sounds throughout the secret chamber. Were it not for the chamber’s excellent soundproofing, the neighbors might have heard the disturbance.
After a while, the Wind and Thunder died down, and the flames returned to normal. The cracks in the ground were also repaired by Qing Yu using the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique."
Everything returned to its original state, as if the previous Wind, Thunder, earthquakes, and flames were no more than illusions. But the flow of the eight threads of True Qi in Qing Yu’s meridians clearly informed him that these were not illusions.
"Circulation of the Six Voids, the Method of All Things. This place is still inside a secret chamber, difficult to borrow from the environment, but if it were outside, with access to materials, my combat strength would surge considerably."
Qing Yu raised his hand, with the Eight Qi circulating in his palm, now ith ice and fire repelling each other, now Wind and Thunder giving birth – mountains and vast marshes reflected in each other, with Heaven and Earth interchanging, unleashing boundless power.
Compared to the original "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique," which adhered more to science, Qing Yu’s version was more focused on the idealistic aspect. At least, the "Circulating Earth Power" was not only a method to control earth. It was more similar to being as magnanimous and generous as the earth. As for the "Circulating Sky Power," bearing the name of Heaven, it was exceptionally powerful.
With a clenched right fist, all the diverse visions disappeared. Qing Yu felt a power within him far surpassing his past self, even daring to feel equal to a True Core Realm Martial Artist.
Even though he knew it was an illusion brought on by the sudden increase in strength, the fact that the always level-headed Qing Yu could harbour such an illusion indicated the significant extent of his strength increase.
"The Divine Skill is newly forged, but it requires a subject to test upon."
And as it happened, Qing Yu had a suitable subject for testing. More than a month had passed since he secluded himself for intensive cultivation, and it was now the end of February, with the aquatic and land ceremony on the third day of March just around the corner.
And for the random character draw in February, although Qing Yu was deeply engrossed in comprehending in hopes of mastering the "Circulation of the Six Voids Technique," he had not forgotten the lottery, merely hadn’t yet taken up the challenge.
And the character drawn for February was...
