Chapter 127: 126: There’s no way to get close to him.
Meng Han looked hesitant. She bit her lower lip, a trace of frustration on her face. "But I just can’t figure out how to get close to him."
A while ago, she had sought out the person the other party had mentioned, even negotiated the price. But she ended up abandoning the idea at the last moment.
Originally, she wanted to rely on her own effort to get into that man’s heart. But now...
"That’s easy, isn’t it?" Shi Yaoyu withdrew her hands from Meng Han’s grasp and picked up the glass of lemonade on the table. "Don’t forget, my surname is also Shi."
Meng Han remained silent for a moment upon hearing this. The chaotic thoughts in her mind troubled her, as reason and emotion seemed to wrestle in her heart, each refusing to concede.
After quite some time, she took a deep breath, clearly having made up her mind.
Her gaze turned resolute as she looked at the person beside her. "When can we start?"
Shi Yaoyu smiled, not surprised by her answer in the slightest. "I’ll give you an answer tomorrow."
"Alright, then I’ll go find that person now." With that, she stood up, bid a quick farewell, and hurriedly left.
As if she couldn’t wait a single minute longer.
Shi Yaoyu glanced out of the floor-to-ceiling window, reclining comfortably in her chair. She raised her left hand to admire her nails and muttered ambiguously, "How boring."

Shengde Middle School.
At the last second before the school gates closed, the girl stepped onto campus. She adjusted the backpack slung over her shoulder and let her fingertips occasionally graze the blue scarf around her neck, seemingly worried that the wind might blow it away.
Only after ascending the stairs of the teaching building did she stop fiddling with the scarf, letting her hands hang naturally by her sides, attempting to appear more composed.
"Little Zhi!" Qin Huai called out excitedly the moment she appeared.
She gave the girl’s outfit a once-over, her gaze lingering for two seconds on the scarf around her neck and the legs now dressed in pencil pants instead of a pleated skirt.
Leaning forward, Qin Huai pressed right up to the edge of the desk. "Why are you dressed like this today?"
Yu Zhi dragged out her chair and took a seat unhurriedly. While opening her backpack, she asked mildly, "Is there a problem?"
"No, it just feels a bit... strange." It wasn’t winter yet, and swapping out the skirt was one thing, but wearing a scarf seemed over the top.
Qin Huai’s comment caused Yu Zhi’s hand, as she reached for her book, to pause slightly. She quietly lowered her gaze for a moment, checking to make sure not even the faintest trace of red marks was visible before continuing her movements.
The girl placed all the books she would need on the desk. After shoving her backpack into the desk’s compartment, she turned to glance at Qin Huai. "I’m a little afraid of the cold."
"Ah, that makes sense. Then why not wear an extra jacket instead?"
Yu Zhi: "..."
If I added another jacket, I might genuinely be taken for a fool.
She coughed lightly and deliberately shifted the topic as she leisurely flipped open one of her books. "We’re getting the monthly exam results today, aren’t we?"
"Yep, they’ll hand out the papers during class later." At the mention of the exam, Qin Huai visibly deflated, resting her chin in her hand and letting out a long sigh.
"What’s wrong?"
"I’m worried. What if I didn’t do well?"
Seeing the worry etched across Qin Huai’s face, Yu Zhi’s expression grew perplexed.
"Why worry?" It’s just a monthly exam. Even if the results aren’t good, there will always be another chance, right?
"Oh, someone like you—a top student—could never understand how I feel." Qin Huai waved her hand dismissively and slumped over her desk, allowing her rosy cheeks to be squashed into odd shapes by her arms.
"I’m not a top student."
The girl’s crisp voice carried a note of seriousness, though her tone went unrecognized by Qin Huai, who assumed it was modesty instead.
"Don’t joke around. If you’re not a top student, then who is?" Qin Huai had always assumed Yu Zhi’s grades were exceptional.
After all, she rarely saw Yu Zhi doing much homework during breaks.
Plus, their physics teacher had repeatedly used her assignments as examples for the class to study.
Yu Zhi raised an eyebrow lightly but chose not to clarify further. Soon enough, Qin Huai would understand what a "top student" truly meant.
The bell for the first class of the morning rang, and their familiar math teacher, Teacher Ma, stepped onto the podium with a stack of test papers in his arms.
His sharp gaze swept across the room, instantly silencing the class.
Teacher Ma cleared his throat twice before beginning to call out the names of the students one by one, announcing their scores as he handed out their papers.
When it was Lu Li’s turn, Teacher Ma paused noticeably longer, unable to suppress the smile spreading across his face.
"Lu Li’s math score ranked first in the entire grade this time. You all should take him as an example. If there’s anything you don’t understand, make sure to ask him without hesitation!"
Upon hearing this, the students at their desks all instinctively clapped in unison to congratulate him.
As Lu Li walked back to his desk with the test paper in hand, he smiled at the girl in the last row by the window, as if sharing his joy with her.
A brief flicker of astonishment flashed in Yu Zhi’s eyes. She held his gaze for two seconds. Their eyes met in the air, but the emotions behind them differed.
The girl was the first to look away, directing her attention back to the podium where she awaited Teacher Ma to call her name.
As the stack of test papers dwindled to just a few, Teacher Ma’s expression began to cloud, and his tone grew heavier.
"Yu Zhi." He called her name but didn’t announce her score.
When Yu Zhi walked up unhurriedly, Teacher Ma slapped the podium resoundingly.
"How do you even listen in class?" He pointed to the glaring red numbers on her test paper—’20’—and fumed, "Even if you were guessing blindly, you should have scored more than this!"
Yu Zhi glanced at the test paper briefly, furrowed her brows, and, with a good attitude, offered a sincere "Sorry."
Her apology nearly left Teacher Ma dumbfounded with exasperation. He scolded her for not living up to expectations. "What’s the use of saying sorry to me? With a score like this, are you being fair to yourself?"
Considering the presence of so many classmates watching from below, Teacher Ma tempered his tone slightly, no longer as agitated.
Seeing her silence, he sighed sympathetically. "Next month’s exam, I want you to turn in a paper that satisfies me—and yourself. Can you do that?"
Teacher Ma knew that girls these days were sensitive and had strong pride, which is why he spared her by not reading out her score.
While preserving her dignity, he also hoped to motivate her to improve—at least not let things continue like this.
Yu Zhi hesitated for a moment, her lips slightly parted. Ultimately, under his expectant gaze, she nodded lightly. "I can."
