Chapter 125: 124: Don’t you want to acknowledge our relationship?
"Mm." The girl responded softly, her fingers gently caressing the back of the man’s hand. She glanced down at his index finger, and her ears involuntarily flushed a deep red.
Yu Zhi lowered her head, pressing her lips tightly together. Her voice was as soft as a mosquito’s hum: "Shi Wei, can you ask someone to buy me a scarf?"
She hadn’t brought much clothing with her and was too lazy to go back for more.
The man’s eyes showed a hint of confusion as he gazed at her face. His gaze lowered, landing on the swan-like neck marked with red traces, and his eyes flashed with a hint of understanding.
Shi Wei leaned in, brushing a kiss against the corner of her lips, then lazily bit her chin. "Winter’s still far off. I’m worried you’ll feel too warm wearing a scarf."
That sentence was enough to reveal that he wasn’t planning to buy one.
"It won’t be too warm—there are lighter options for spring and autumn." The girl retorted earnestly, her serious expression indicating she hadn’t realized he was teasing her.
Shi Wei raised an eyebrow, an imperceptible trace of amusement flickering through his deep, dark eyes. "Zhizhi, why do you need a scarf?"
He observed the girl’s hesitant expression and didn’t press her further, instead waiting for her to explain herself.
Yu Zhi pursed her lips, her curled fingers unintentionally brushing lightly against the back of his hand. "My neck... my classmates might see."
"You don’t want to admit our relationship?" Shi Wei’s tone turned mockingly cold, feigning the indignation of someone being wronged.
"No, it’s not that." Yu Zhi quickly lifted her eyes to look at him. After holding his gaze for two seconds, she gave in. "Fine, I won’t wear one."
If anyone asked later, she’d just say the marks on her neck were from insect bites.
"Mm." Shi Wei’s broad hand slid to the soft flesh at her waist, gently squeezing it. He leaned close to her ear, murmuring lowly, "Zhizhi, I have a reward for you."
"What... what kind of reward?" The girl noticed how that broad hand was becoming increasingly restless. A sense of foreboding stirred within her heart.
At this point, the thought of a scarf had completely left her mind. All her attention was now on the man, anxiously awaiting the reward he spoke of.
Shi Wei’s lips curled into a faint smile, his husky voice carrying a deep affection. "The reward is..." He deliberately prolonged the suspense, brushing his lips to her ear as he uttered the final word.
**
Evening.
Shi Yin returned to Yushui Bay after work. As soon as he stepped out of the elevator on the third floor, his eyes landed on a woman he wasn’t particularly eager to see at the moment.
"I thought you wouldn’t come back today?" Shi Yaoyu straightened up from where she’d been leaning against the white wall, her high heels clicking briskly as she walked toward him.
She wore a deep blue power suit, red lipstick accentuating her sharp features, her hair meticulously pulled back—exuding a sharp, professional air.
"What’s the matter?" Shi Yin glanced at her impassively, his toes angled toward the right, ready to step away at any moment.
"Mm, two things." Shi Yaoyu’s gaze lingered on the keychain he held, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Aren’t you going to invite me in?"
Without saying a word, Shi Yin bypassed her and strode toward the door on the right. He unlocked it and left the door ajar, making his stance clear.
They sat across from each other on the sofa. Shi Yin opened his laptop, his expression serious as he examined the documents sent over by his subordinates. Without looking up, he asked flatly, "Stop beating around the bush. Say whatever it is."
He still had plenty of work to finish, hadn’t even eaten dinner yet, and had no time to spar with Shi Yaoyu.
"Have you thought it through?" Now that the conversation had reached this point, Shi Yaoyu dropped her pretense of politeness.
She crossed her legs and leaned lazily against the back of the sofa, her arms crossed as she stared intently at him.
"There’s nothing to think about."
When she misunderstood his meaning, assuming his lack of response indicated agreement, Shi Yin raised his head and met her gaze evenly. "I never planned to cooperate with you."
Hearing this, the smile on Shi Yaoyu’s face froze briefly. She let out a derisive laugh, attempting to provoke him. "What’s the matter? Are you afraid?"
"That trick won’t work on me." Shi Yin saw through her ploy immediately. Lowering his gaze, he ignored her and said, "Is there anything else?"
The air thickened for a moment. The quiet of the living room was broken only by the faint tapping of keyboard keys.
Shi Yaoyu casually examined the manicure she’d gotten earlier that day. Her curled lashes momentarily cast shadows, concealing the darkness in her eyes.
She stroked her glossy nails. "Last night at the Golden Court Hotel, who was the woman looking for Shi Wei?"
"Why are you asking about her?" A flicker of wariness crossed Shi Yin’s eyes, though the steady rhythm of his typing didn’t falter, betraying no hint of unease.
"Just curious." After all, that man had never allowed any woman near him, let alone permitted anyone to touch him.
But last night, that woman had been an exception.
"I wouldn’t know." Shi Yin’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. Lifting his coffee cup, he took a sip. "Why don’t you ask him yourself?"
"Heh." Shi Yaoyu wasn’t foolish—aware that he was evading her question, she saw no reason to linger.
She rose to her feet, frustration radiating off her as she grabbed her bag. Turning to leave, she sharply slammed the door behind her with a resounding bang.
Shi Yin’s fingers halted on the keyboard. He exhaled deeply, pressing his fingers against his brow in an attempt to ease his tension.
Focusing on the project Shi Wei had entrusted to him, he hadn’t slept properly in days. Now, after dealing with the disruption Shi Yaoyu brought, claiming he wasn’t exhausted would’ve been a lie.
After taking a moment to collect himself, he refocused on his work. But only a few minutes had passed when a new knock sounded from the door.
His gaze darkened, and with noticeable irritation, he yanked the door open. "What else do you—"
Seeing the visitor wasn’t Shi Yaoyu, he swallowed the latter half of his sentence.
"What else?" Ruan Yuan looked up at him in confusion, her expression innocent and puzzled.
Because of the bandages she wore, she was dressed in an oversized pink loungewear set. The scattering of tiny strawberries printed around the collar and hem added a particularly charming touch of cuteness.
"Nothing. Are you feeling okay?" Shi Yin’s gaze landed on her shoulder, assuming she was here because she needed help with something.
Ruan Yuan shook her head, lifting her right hand slightly to show him the plastic bag she was holding. "I brought dinner. I didn’t want to eat alone, so I came to find you."
The bag looked heavy, filled with quite a bit of food, and her hand seemed to have turned slightly pale from carrying it.
Without hesitation, Shi Yin took the bag from her and stepped aside to let her in.
He unpacked all the food containers, arranging them neatly on the table. As he opened each box, the enticing aroma of the dishes began to fill the room.
