Chapter 123: 122: Now is the ’next time

His words made Yu Zhi’s face flush instantly. She curled her fingers, hanging her head in frustration, not daring to look at him again.

Shi Wei walked to the bathroom door and gently set her down. He turned on the shower, repeatedly testing the water temperature with his palm until it was just right.

"Your small clothes are over there." The man gestured toward the blue basket on the countertop. After placing a kiss on her forehead, he turned and left.

A light breeze brushed past her, and warmth once again embraced the young girl standing there in a tight cocoon.

She paused for a couple of seconds, then slowly made her way to the sink. Her fair, jade-like fingertips grasped the edge of the basket.

Yu Zhi stared at the meticulously folded small garments inside the basket, her lips pressed tightly together as a shimmer of light flickered through her pale brown eyes.

After a while, she stepped out of the steamy bathroom, her slender arm reaching out to hook her fingers around the two small pieces of clothing in the basket.

She managed to put one on, and just as she stood up and adjusted the shoulder straps, preparing to fasten the clasp at the back, her peripheral vision caught sight of an eight-legged creature stuck to the opposite wall.

Yu Zhi froze mid-motion, her eyes locked on the large black spider. The expression on her delicate face instantly turned to panic.

Carefully, she took a small step forward, hoping not to disturb it, but to her dismay, the spider began to crawl downward the moment she stepped forward.

Yu Zhi panicked immediately. Her eyes filled with terror, and before she could think, she grabbed the blue basket and flung it at the spider.

With a loud "bang," the basket hit the floor, momentarily blocking her view.

She stood frozen, unable to move, staring fixedly at the spot. Perhaps her nerves were too tightly strung, for when the man’s deep voice came from outside, she jolted in fright.

"Zhizhi, did you slip and fall?" Shi Wei’s brows furrowed deeply, concern thick in his tone.

He pressed down on the doorknob but didn’t push the door open immediately.

"No..." Yu Zhi clutched at her chest, taking a deep breath to calm herself.

She took a couple of steps forward, intending to check if she had hit the spider when the black spider suddenly darted toward her at lightning speed.

"Shi Wei, Shi Wei!" The girl screamed in fright, her face paling instantly.

In the moment Shi Wei pushed the door open, she lunged at him, leaping forward like an octopus, clinging tightly to him.

"Shi Wei, close the door! Quickly!" Yu Zhi wrapped her arms around his neck, her voice trembling slightly as she urged him by his ear.

Shi Wei immediately spotted the spider near his feet. Raising his eyebrows slightly, he kicked it aside and, as the girl had asked, closed the door behind them.

"Zhizhi’s afraid of spiders?" Amusement glimmered in Shi Wei’s eyes, as he hadn’t expected someone as bold as her to be scared of such tiny creatures.

Yu Zhi quietly murmured in agreement, tightening her grip around his neck as if she were about to slip off. "It didn’t get out here, did it?"

"I don’t think so." He instinctively adjusted her position, supporting her legs in his hands. As the soft and tender sensation registered in his palms, he froze for a moment.

It was only then that he noticed her attire. Glancing down, the sight that met his eyes seemed to freeze time entirely.

Shi Wei’s throat bobbed slightly, and he shifted his gaze away with difficulty as the glow in his eyes dimmed by degrees.

"What do you mean, you don’t think so? Did it or didn’t it?" The girl was still shaking with fear, the image of those eight legs coming near making goosebumps rise all over her legs.

That soft, petite figure in his arms kept wriggling nervously, scared of falling.

"It didn’t." His voice was hoarse, and his large hand around the girl’s waist tightened as well.

Burying his face in the curve of her neck, he inhaled deeply, greedily savoring her unique fragrance. "Zhizhi, does what you said before still count?"

"What did I say?"

"That night, after dinner with your friends." He paused for two seconds, his voice dark and magnetic, almost coaxing, "You said, next time you’d give it to me."

At his words, her fear was replaced instantly by blushing embarrassment. Her eyelashes quivered at high speed. "It... it counts."

"Then now, it’s ’next time.’"

......&*#........

The next day.

Soft sunlight filtered through the window, its golden rays dancing across the messy master bedroom, carried on the playful breeze, spreading ripples of intimacy.

Shi Wei lay on his side in bed, propped up on one hand, gazing contentedly at the small figure nestled in his embrace.

The girl had her eyes closed, her wavy hair spilling over the pillow, with a few strands adorably sticking to her delicate cheek. Her long lashes rested on her lower eyelids, leaving a shadow like strokes of ink at the corner of her eyes.

Shi Wei gazed at her for a long time. His thumb traced the curve of her lips, slowly brushing upward to stroke her lashes, his every movement imbued with tenderness and affection.

Feeling ticklish, the girl swatted his hand away, rubbing her eyes while mumbling softly, "Stop it..."

Her voice was hoarse, tinged with a thick layer of grievance and vulnerability.

Shi Wei chuckled softly, the sound like spring thawing a snow-covered mountain, bringing everything to life, causing flowers to bloom in full glory in an instant.

He pinched her dainty nose playfully, his deep eyes brimming with indulgence. "Zhizhi, time to wake up and eat."

By now, it was almost noon. Though he had already called in for her to skip school, she still needed to eat.

Like a cat, Yu Zhi responded lazily, blinking open her eyes. She stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before sneaking a glance at the man beside her.

Recalling all that had happened the previous night, she blushed furiously and burrowed her face into the comforter, her muffled voice emerging faintly, "You go first. I’ll... stay a little longer."

Shi Wei froze briefly, some thought crossing his mind. He promptly lifted the covers and got out of bed without hesitation. "Zhizhi, wait for me here."

As his footsteps receded, Yu Zhi poked her small head out of the blanket. Stretching both arms above her head, she pursed her lips, her attention drawn to every red mark on her arms.

He was too much—he hadn’t even spared her fingers. Both her arms were covered in marks, so one could only imagine the state of the rest of her body.

Sighing softly, Yu Zhi was about to roll over when the soreness swept through her body again.

Clutching her lower back, she began to rub it gently, her expression becoming even more pitiful.

Before long, Shi Wei returned, carrying a tube of ointment. Sitting at the edge of the bed, he ruffled her hair. "Zhizhi, put on some ointment."

Without waiting for her response, he lifted the blanket.

"Ointment for what?" Yu Zhi turned away shyly, her ears—red as rubies—disappearing into her dark hair with the movement.
