Chapter 118: 117: Ruan Yuan risks his life

Noticing the burly men in suits lurking in the shadows, Ruan Yuan raised an eyebrow, covered her mouth as if coughing to lower her voice, and reported the situation to Yu Zhi.

Before long, when the target finished his conversation with others, Ruan Yuan approached him unhurriedly.

As she drew closer, she could distinctly feel the bodyguards in the dark snapping to attention, their gazes locked on her, ready to pounce if she dared make a move.

"Oh dear." As Ruan Yuan brushed past the man, she accidentally twisted her ankle, spilling the red wine in her glass all over him.

Then, losing her balance, she grabbed his arm for support, her face full of contrition. "I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to."

Deng Rong initially intended to shake off the woman’s hand, but upon seeing those innocence-filled eyes laced with a hint of allure, his previously stern expression softened back to its earlier casual demeanor.

"It’s fine." He supported the woman by her slender arm. His gaze lingered momentarily on her long legs peeking out from beneath the black dress as he spoke in a warm tone, "Can you still walk?"

Ruan Yuan struggled to stand upright, her brows knitted tightly as she took a step forward and waved her hand dismissively. "I can’t walk—too painful."

Her voice was sweet, evoking pity without being cloyingly saccharine, fully embodying the helpless charm of a delicate woman.

Seeing this, Deng Rong decided to "be a good Samaritan to the end." He gallantly slipped an arm around her shoulders. "Let me help you upstairs to rest. We can apply some medicine while we’re at it."

"Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you?" Ruan Yuan suppressed the nausea rising in her heart, biting her plump lower lip with a look of hesitation.

"It’s no trouble at all; I was just about to head upstairs myself." The sensation of her smooth skin beneath his palm made Deng Rong’s eyes darken slightly.

Without a hint of haste, he scanned her figure from head to toe. Where she couldn’t see, the corners of his mouth curled upward in a satisfied smirk.

When a group of suited men followed them into the elevator, Ruan Yuan instinctively shrank closer behind Deng Rong as though seeking his protection.

"Don’t be scared. They’re my men," Deng Rong reassured her, his hand that had been resting on her shoulder sliding subtly downward until it encircled her waist while her tense demeanor distracted her.

"Mm." Ruan Yuan responded softly, lowering her head. The light reflected off the edges of her lashes, casting a shadow beneath the mask that concealed her eyes.

Once inside the suite, Deng Rong made no effort to hide his intentions, leading her straight into the bedroom while the bodyguards stationed themselves outside the door.

He helped Ruan Yuan sit beside the sofa, then knelt in front of her, his rough hand grasping her pale ankle as he removed her high heels.

His gaze darkened as he stared at the delicate arch of her foot, his fingers lightly caressing it. "Your feet... they’re beautiful," he teased.

"Let me go..." Ruan Yuan’s hands, which hung at her sides, clenched into fists.

If not for the rationality anchoring her, she would have loved nothing more than to smash this creep into a pulp.

Deng Rong’s smirk was devilish. He inhaled deeply, suppressing the primal beast within, and stepped back, standing upright.

Removing his suit jacket, he calmly addressed her, even as she remained masked. "I’m going to take a shower. The medicine will be delivered shortly."

Ruan Yuan obediently nodded, her lowered gaze momentarily flashing with ruthless determination. "Alright, I’ll wait for you."

On the rooftop, a petite shadow traced the railings’ edge, circling the perimeter.

The cool breeze ruffled the girl’s hair. Tugging down the brim of her baseball cap, she leaned against the railing and peered down.

After confirming her target, she pulled a pair of circular hooks from her backpack. She attached one hook to a chain wrapped around her arm, securing it to the railing.

Yu Zhi donned a face mask, her hands gripping the railing as she vaulted over it, positioning herself outside the building.

With one hand clutching a knife and the other gripping the circular hook, she cautiously descended with her back to the lush greenery below. Each step left a deep gash in the building’s formerly smooth wall.

As seconds ticked by, the strain turned Yu Zhi’s palms red, but her resolved gaze remained unwavering, showing no hint of retreat.

Reaching the eleventh-floor balcony, Yu Zhi bent her knees and kicked hard, releasing the circular hook as her other hand caught the railing at her side.

Through the glass, she glanced at the woman sitting on the sofa, who faced away from her, and whispered softly.

Hearing the voice through her earpiece, Ruan Yuan quickly turned her head and walked cautiously toward the window to open it.

Once Yu Zhi landed safely, she was about to exchange a few words with Ruan Yuan when a noise came from the door.

She immediately dropped to the floor in a crouch and rolled to hide under the bed.

The bodyguard didn’t bother knocking. He simply pressed the handle and entered the room, handing Ruan Yuan a plastic bag before pulling out a detector. "Apologies, raise your arms, please."

"What are you doing?" Ruan Yuan looked at the device in his hand, feigning confusion.

The bodyguard’s expression remained stoic. "For the boss’s safety, we need to check if you’re carrying anything dangerous."

Ruan Yuan stepped back half a pace, her tone laced with a hint of grievance. "Do I look like a bad person?"

She lowered her head slightly, tucking a loose lock of hair behind her ear while subtly removing her earpiece and clasping it in her fingers.

Having worked with Deng Rong for a long time and encountered many women, the bodyguard chose not to waste words: "Please cooperate."

After a brief pause, Ruan Yuan reluctantly lifted her hands. As the detector moved closer, she discreetly tossed the earpiece aside.

"Are we done yet?" She pouted petulantly, masking the faint sound of the device hitting the floor.

After a thorough scan and finding no threats, the bodyguard coldly said, "It’s clear."

Shortly after he left, Deng Rong strode out from the bathroom wearing a half-open robe.

"Did I keep you waiting?" He rubbed his distended belly, hungrily eyeing the stunning figure before him.

Water droplets still clung to Deng Rong’s chest, their fragrance carried by the excess shower gel, detectable even from afar.

"Not too long." Ruan Yuan frowned slightly, averting her gaze from him.

The golden mask obscured her expression, shielding her from the man’s suspicion.

Once again, Deng Rong knelt by her feet, pulling a tube of ointment from the plastic bag. He twisted the cap off, squeezed some onto the back of his hand, and gently grasped her foot. "With this, you’ll feel better tomorrow."

"Perhaps." Ruan Yuan’s darkened gaze focused on the top of his head, her tone increasingly perfunctory.

"Is the pressure okay? Does it hurt?"

"..."

Hidden beneath the bed, Yu Zhi seized the opportunity. Silently, she slid out, her movements deliberate and controlled, like a predator stalking its prey.
