Chapter 116: 115: Differences emerged on the night of the action

Yu Zhi smiled slightly, genuinely admiring her courage: "Then I wish you an early success in achieving your goal."

"Absolutely." Love doesn’t come easily, and she definitely wouldn’t let it slip away so easily.

Ruan Yuan glanced at the time displayed at the top of the screen, remembering there were still things to be done, and ended the call first: "I’ll stop chatting now. See you tomorrow night."

The screen returned to its normal state. Yu Zhi set aside her phone, picked up the glass and took a large sip of yogurt.

She wiped the milk stains from her lips, ready to leave the man’s embrace and continue working on her homework, but was pulled back in again.

Shi Wei’s gaze deepened as he stared at the girl’s lips, which glistened with a crystalline sheen. His voice was slightly hoarse: "Zhizhi, where are you planning to go tomorrow night?"

"Not planning to play; we—" Yu Zhi stopped herself abruptly halfway through speaking.

Annoyed, she lowered her head, not daring to meet the man’s gaze.

"Can’t you tell me?" Shi Wei took hold of her soft hand, intertwining his fingers with hers.

His fingertips lightly brushed her palm, his tone extremely gentle.

But beneath his calm demeanor lay a hidden torrent of restless anxiety.

Yu Zhi lowered her gaze, throwing her chaotic thoughts aside, and clasped his hand in return: "It’s not that."

Her eyes lingered on the back of his hand: "I’m afraid you won’t let me go."

"Is it dangerous?" Shi Wei squinted slightly, the snow-white line of his jaw tightening significantly.

His tone remained the same as before, yet still carried a chill perceptible to Yu Zhi’s sharp senses.

"No danger," she said, raising her head to look into the man’s dark eyes. Finally setting other concerns aside, she began to explain: "Just going to retrieve something."

The girl’s soft voice rang in his ears, and inexplicably, it dissipated much of the restlessness and aggression Shi Wei had been suppressing in his heart.

He leaned his forehead against hers, his hot breath washing over her face as he coaxed: "Zhizhi, can I join you?"

Though winter was approaching, Yu Zhi felt the man’s breath like a blazing fire, scorching her cheeks red.

"No, you can’t." She still retained a shred of rationality, even as the man tested her patience, refusing him all the same.

Suddenly, Shi Wei’s peach blossom eyes lifted slightly, his gaze deep and probing as it landed on the girl. After remaining silent for two seconds, he ultimately chose to relent.

"I won’t go in. I’ll just wait outside for you." He cupped her cheeks, gently stroking her skin with his fingertips.

The man’s gaze was so tender that Yu Zhi found herself unable to muster words of refusal again.

She gave a soft reply, her small hands gripping the hem of his clothing, her body leaning forward to press her lips lightly against his brow.

Feeling the feather-light kiss fall, a trace of brilliance curved onto Shi Wei’s lips.

Like a gloomy sky suddenly pierced with rays of light, revealing a glimpse of clarity.

As the city lights lit up, the Golden Court Hotel, standing tall amid the surrounding high-rises, became particularly eye-catching, glowing brightly.

The hotel covered a vast area, its exterior designed in a blend of creamy white and warm yellow European architectural style. The warm yellow lights refracted through stained-glass windows, scattering sparkling patterns across the nearby gardens and greenery.

In a VIP suite on the top floor, Persian carpets stretched across every viewable surface. A tall man glanced out the window before leisurely making his way to the sofa to sit down.

Looking down at the girl beside him, who tapped away at her phone screen with rounded fingertips, he asked, "Zhizhi, when is she coming?"

Before arriving here, Shi Wei had truly intended to follow through on his promise from the previous day, waiting outside.

But ultimately, he couldn’t ease his worries and coaxed the girl into going to the top floor with him.

"She’s here." Yu Zhi glanced up just as a soft knocking sound came from their direction.

She quickly moved to open the door. As soon as she saw Ruan Yuan’s outfit, her brows furrowed involuntarily: "Why are you dressed like that?"

Ruan Yuan wore a black gown with her hair curled into perfect waves. Her upper face was obscured by a golden mask, revealing only her deep-set eyes and plump lips.

"Today’s a masquerade ball," Ruan Yuan said, removing the mask as she looped her arm through the girl’s. Her heels clicked gently as she walked.

Yu Zhi glanced sideways at her, puzzled: "You’re planning to go down and participate?"

"What else?" Ruan Yuan greeted Shi Wei briefly before sitting across from them.

She began outlining her plan: "I’ll head down first to lure that man into the room; then we’ll make our move."

Yu Zhi: "..."

She gave Ruan Yuan a once-over, her tone uncertain: "You’re going to use your looks?"

In the past, they’d done similar jobs, but always using simple and crude methods.

This was the first time seeing Ruan Yuan going all out like this.

Ruan Yuan nodded, her expression serious: "That man has professionally trained personnel with him. If we confront them head-on, things will likely get messy."

"But this isn’t safe for you." Yu Zhi frowned ever so slightly, still expressing her disapproval.

The job itself wasn’t a necessity, but she refused to let Ruan Yuan put herself at risk.

"Everyone has weaknesses." Leaning against the sofa, Ruan Yuan spoke lightly: "His is being overly enamored with beauty."

"No way. We’ll use the old methods." Yu Zhi’s attitude was resolute, showing no intention of conceding.

The atmosphere stiffened momentarily, with each of them sticking to their respective plans yet sharing the same intention: to keep the other out of harm’s way.

Shi Wei’s gaze flitted between the two, stopping briefly as he pinched Yu Zhi’s cheek. His gentle voice broke the silence: "Zhizhi, how about letting me handle this?"

Earlier, he’d gotten the girl to reveal what they were retrieving tonight. After learning of it, Shi Wei had already sent Chen Cai ahead with men to be prepared.

He wouldn’t allow any unexpected incidents, only feeling assured by keeping full control of everything.

"No need."

Two voices of rejection rang out simultaneously, causing Shi Wei’s hand resting on Yu Zhi’s cheek to pause slightly.

He propped his leg up against the table, leaning his body back as he wrapped an arm around the girl’s waist.

"Then, how do you plan to proceed?" Shi Wei pinched the bridge of his nose, genuinely unsure how to handle the dynamics between the two women.

Ruan Yuan pondered briefly, softening her tone: "Little Zhi, let me go down first and check the situation."

Continuing the standoff would only waste time.

Without waiting for Yu Zhi to speak, Ruan Yuan added, "We’ll stay in contact the whole time; nothing will happen."

Yu Zhi remained silent, her hand on her shoulder bag slightly curling as though hesitating.

After a long moment, she retrieved a tiny black earpiece from the bag, handing it to Ruan Yuan with a voice blending coldness with a touch of tenderness: "Don’t take it off."
