Chapter 96: A Friendly Battle

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: A Friendly Battle

After finishing inspecting his collar, William asked Neri, "Is it possible for my data not to be recorded every time I train?" Neri replied, "No, because those records are sent directly to the professors to know how to help us with our training. Perhaps if you ask a director, they could help you, but I’ve never heard of anyone wanting to deactivate that function."

"I guess it’s strange if you look at it that way," William said. As they walked through the training area, they arrived at an empty field where there was only a pedestal and a person sitting in meditation.

"Neri, is that place for arranged fights, or is there another place?" William asked.

"Indeed, that place is for duels. There are 3 types of duels and you can select them this way," Neri explained. She approached the pedestal and brought her collar closer. The pedestal emitted the same sound as the one outside the library again: "Welcome to the Battle Arena, confirm the type of fight to be carried out."

"There are 3 types of fights allowed in this place. First, friendly combat, which doesn’t require any data to be filled in and is allowed an unlimited number of times daily. The second type is contract combat, where there’s a bet involved and a witness is required, so the academy acts as a guarantee that the loser will keep their word. And finally, enmity combat, these can be to the death or just until one of the two can no longer compete. What do you think? Do you want to have a small sparring match with me?"

Still surprised by the proposal, William accepted the training match she offered. "I choose friendly combat."

"Select the rank of the competitors and the weapons to be used." Neri turned to look at William, who, as always, carried his sword on his back. Although this caused many incredulous or mocking glances, William didn’t care; his safety came first, so regardless of the comments, he wouldn’t let it out of his hands.

"I suppose it will be a mixed fight, will you use your sword?"

Upon hearing the question, William took his sword off his back and placed it on a shelf next to the pillar before saying, "No, if I use the sword, it could be quite dangerous. Besides, I don’t use a weapon unless I want to kill."

"Don’t underestimate me, I’m quite strong, you know. I’m in 10th place in the Level 2 combatant ranking."

"What’s that ranking? I didn’t see it among the collar options," William replied.

"For it to appear on your collar, you have to go to the Coliseum first. That’s where I planned to take you next. Confirm magical friendly battle," Neri said.

"Confirming magical friendly battle. Bludgeoning and cutting weapons are prohibited. The battle will have a 10-minute counter with standard rules. Do you wish to include any additional clauses?"

"No, standard rules without elemental interference, neutral landscape, neutral weather conditions."

"Received, generating combat permission. You may proceed."

In the combat zone, a small blue dome rose, like a force field protecting the spectators. Neri advanced and took off her tunic, placing it on the shelf and leaving only her light blue dress, which accentuated her small figure, making her look like an Ice fairy.

"I won’t show mercy, so don’t underestimate me, ’rookie’." Neri’s words sought to annoy William so he would take the fight seriously.

William also took off his robe and placed it over his sword. "I’ll be right back, honey." Before entering, he kissed Lía, who replied, "Don’t be too rough with her, she’s helped us a lot."

With a nod, William entered in his normal training clothes. He didn’t have any armor, as it would look strange under the robe. Upon entering, he saw that he couldn’t see outside; the dome functioned as a mirror wall that reflected everything to prevent competitors from being distracted by the public.

"Are you ready, rookie?" With an ironic smile, William replied, "Come on, I’ll give you the first move."

Neri’s smile cooled before she replied, "Don’t regret this. Ice Field!" Extending her hands, she unleashed a freezing breeze that chilled the entire battlefield, even making the floor slightly slippery. Without pause, Neri unleashed a second spell: "Snow Field, Blizzard!"

Small clouds formed, causing dense snow feathers to fall and a mist that rose like a white curtain.

"I heard some things about you, William, and I wanted to see if they were true. Here I go, Electric Claws!" With a gentle movement, two small lightning bolts appeared behind William, blocking his path. William sensed the danger and jumped to the side with all his might. His 25 agility points were no joke, managing to get out of that place in a fraction of a second. The lightning bolts crashed into each other, causing a deafening explosion. The blow had been serious, which caused William to stop taking things lightly and get serious. His vision was clouded, so he couldn’t see where Neri was hiding; her dress functioned as a very efficient camouflage suit.

"Come on, William, don’t disappoint me! Electric Claw!" Six electric claws appeared in all directions, sealing his path, so William had no choice but to jump into the air and dodge them with an acrobatic move. Realizing he was in danger, he stopped playing and started running across the battlefield. Although he couldn’t see her, Angel had already marked her soul signature and could easily see her location. Lunging at her with a flying kick, Neri was surprised and dodged it. A second chain attack from William pursued her, causing Neri to unleash "Freezing Breeze!" A gust of icy wind shot out at him like a blade. William lost his balance a little but launched a third blow against Neri, which only hit the air. Neri had already fled into the distance. A little frustrated, William stopped and turned to look at her. This type of combat was annoying for him, as he enjoyed fighting against sailors who never stretched and threw punches one after another until one was about to die.

"Did you expect me to stand still like a straw dummy? Come on, William, the first thing they teach you when fighting a knight is never to stay close to them, and the second, don’t let them breathe! Electric Claw...!"

More and more claws mercilessly launched themselves at William, sealing all his escape routes.
