Chapter 94: Capitulo 94: A Walk around the School (2)
Seeing that the location wasn’t suitable to continue their conversation, Neri stood up from the table and motioned for them to follow her. The trio walked through the academy’s streets while chatting. "I’ll give you a little tour of the academy. These places will be your home for the next few years. First, I want you to see the library. It’s the largest building in the entire academy and holds all of its knowledge. You must be careful with the library’s guardian; he’s an extremely serious person who only cares about books. If you damage any, he might not only ban you for life, but he could even kill you for harming his precious books. Many say that old man even killed a professor who dared to damage a book in front of him. No one knows how strong the old man is, but no one dares to challenge him anyway."
As Neri spoke, the three arrived at the library. The building was imposing. The academy could be described as a large cone that deepened as it went towards the center. The library was exactly at the center and reached all the way to the ceiling, as if it were a column supporting the entire structure of the academy. The view was truly impressive; from William’s perspective, the library held the heavens above their heads. "I wonder what material the library is made of to be able to withstand the weight of the entire mountain by itself."
"This material is called Obsidian, but it’s not like the normal obsidian you know. That one is too fragile and becomes extremely sharp when broken. This obsidian undergoes an alchemical treatment, making it much harder than steel. According to a book I read, this alloy has the capacity to withstand up to 500,000 kg/cm³, 100 times more than steel, and it’s also super malleable, like putty." The more William heard, the more he imagined they were talking about concrete, but the level of compression resistance was completely illogical; if he weren’t seeing it, he would find it hard to believe.
"Angel, can you check the structural density of the entire city based on what we’ve seen?"
"Analyzing data... According to the collected data and what we have seen, we must be close to 100 kilometers below the surface. The data shows that upon passing through the gate, we were transported to a different location, meaning that reception hall is just a point in the teleportation nodes. Furthermore, according to my calculations and Neri’s words, three pillars like the library are needed to support the entire structure. From this point, it’s not possible to see them, but they must be distributed in that way. To destroy the entire structure, two would have to fall sequentially and with very high precision; otherwise, just one of these pillars could hold the entire mountain long enough to be repaired."
After showing the analysis, Angel displayed a three-dimensional image of how this place might be distributed, as well as the possible locations of the other pillars that supported the entire mountain. Seeing that William was lost in thought, Neri and Lía continued towards the library entrance. Upon arriving, two guards extended their spears to block access.
"Present identification." Neri took out her collar and placed it on a pillar between the guards.
"Nereida Hallwick, Level 2 permission granted. Access up to floor 2."
Lía placed her collar, and the voice sounded again. "Lía, Level 0 access. You have permission to enter floor 0 and cannot remove any books from the premises. Additionally, for your first visit to the library, you will be granted 100 points. Welcome."
After seeing all the information that Angel presented, William also extended his collar to the pedestal, which caused the voice to sound again.
"William Rosehart. Level 5 permission. You have access up to floor 5 and can borrow any book for up to 1 month. Any damage will be deducted from your points. Due to your first visit, you will be awarded 100 points. For ranking up from rank 0 to rank 1, you are awarded 1,000 points. For ranking up from rank 1 to rank 2, you are awarded 5,000 points. For ranking up from rank 2 to rank 3, you are awarded 20,000 points. For ranking up from rank 3 to rank 4, you are awarded 100,000 points. And for ranking up from rank 4 to rank 5, you are awarded 500,000 points. Total points assigned: 626,000 points. Congratulations on achieving so many rank-ups at once. You have reached the maximum level allowed for any student. You will not be able to rank up again until you are a formal mage and join the Union. If you wish to consult Level 6 books, you must request special permission 1 month before your visit."
The voice finished, leaving everyone with their mouths agape. The amount of points William had just obtained was abysmal. There was no way a normal person could obtain so many points without working hard for years. William took his collar and focused his mind. In the user information section, there was a section that said "Achievements and Rank." Upon entering, he could see a breakdown of the points he had obtained. His total points were 1,626,000 points. If Neri knew this, she would faint, as even with all her time at the academy and some secret help, her points only reached 200,000, and she had saved all her points from the beginning. The achievements breakdown showed only two previous achievements. The first was "Kraken Hunt," stating "due to being a fundamental part of the Kraken hunt, Level 5 privilege is granted, signed by Agis."
The second was a direct transfer: "1,000,000 points have been transferred by Aurus." This one had a small blinking sphere that caught his attention. Upon touching it, it turned into a video: "Congratulations on gaining your admission. I leave you a welcome gift, hoping it helps you. Additionally, I leave you my practice hall; you just need to go and place this key on the door, and the transfer will be formalized. I have stored all my books and magic notes there. Don’t damage them, I hope they are useful to you. I will always be grateful for your help; you have given me the opportunity to take my revenge. Don’t look for me, just forget about me. I hope all this I’ve given you is enough to repay your help. Remember that mages only believe in equivalent exchange; never accept anything for free, no matter how they hide it. Everything free you will eventually have to pay for, Aurus."
