Chapter 879: Chapter 708, Helping with Construction (Combined Chapter, 5000 words.)_3 Chapter 879: Chapter 708, Helping with Construction (Combined Chapter, 5000 words.)_3 Philippa was just about to speak.
A parrot's shrill voice called out, “Great, Leader.”
Philippa grabbed the parrot by the neck and shook it vigorously, “What are you shouting about, you startled me.”
“Idiot, Captain,” the parrot cursed as it flapped its wings and flew off into the distance.
Philippa continued looking at Wu Heng, “I went out with 'Princess Brittany' today. I felt a bit unwell, so I didn't follow them. I arranged for Skeletons, don't worry, nothing will go wrong.”
Wu Heng stood up, touched her forehead, and asked, “What's wrong? Did you take any medicine?”
“It's a girl's discomfort, you wouldn't understand.” Philippa brushed his hand away.
“I understand, just don't catch a cold,” Wu Heng said with a smile and then asked, “Nothing happened in the city during the past few days I was away, right?”
“Nothing at all, it's just as it was before.”
“What about from headquarters? Have they sent down any messages?” Wu Heng continued to ask.
Philippa scratched her head, “No messages from headquarters yet, nothing arranged from Tapani's side either. In short, no changes.”
She made a summary.
Wu Heng sat on the sofa and pondered, then stood up and said, “All right, I'll go have a look at the association then.”
“I won't accompany you.”
“Rest well at home, you have indeed been a bit tired lately.”
“Mm.”
In the association's study room.
Tapani and Dean Gianvito were sitting in the room drinking tea, frowning as they looked at the just arrived Wu Heng.
“If you hadn't shown up, we would have thought you were missing and were about to issue an order to find you,” Tapani said with a smile.
Wu Heng stood up, poured himself a cup of tea, and said, “I borrowed two spell books from Dean Gianvito, and I have been cooped up in my room studying them these last few days.”
Tapani raised an eyebrow, “You mages really do spend such a long time on your research.”
Seeing that the other party believed his explanation, Wu Heng then asked, “Hasn't headquarters sent any new instructions?”
“By my estimate, based on the timing, the orders should be on their way here.” Tapani stood up and poured him a cup of tea.
Wu Heng took a casual sip and said, “That's good, we will know what we should do when the time comes.”
“It'll likely be a pursuit order for the Venerate Saint Sect and an investigation of the Crown Prince. The previous City Lord died, having killed the local Steward and attempted to murder us; someone will ultimately have to take responsibility for this matter.”
“That's true.”
At dusk, dinner time.
Today's dinner included an additional guest, Shanaela.
After eating a few bites, Shanaela said, “I've discussed some cooperation regarding Netalee City with 'Princess Brittany'.”
Wu Heng glanced at the Fifth Princess beside him and turned back, “What kind of cooperation?”
“One is the purchase of some properties and mines in the city; we've already signed the sales agreement,” Shanaela stated.
Wu Heng already knew of this.
Shanaela's purpose in coming here was to purchase premium assets in the city while property prices were at their lowest.
It sounded a bit like taking advantage of a bad situation, but in light of current circumstances, Shanaela's willingness to spend money was a mark of trust in the Fifth Princess and support for the city as it stood.
“Hm, and then?”
“The other matter has to do with assistance from Gold and Silver Island.”
“Let me explain,” Princess Brittany interjected.
Shanaela smiled and nodded, “Go ahead, Princess Brittany.”
“Shanaela and I discussed it, and relying solely on my abilities, I can't possibly defend this city. While I'm said to be in command, in truth, I must depend on Gold and Silver Island. Therefore, we plan to use 30% of the city's annual tax revenue as military funding for the Skeleton defense. Sister Shanaela said she couldn't decide on this matter by herself and would need to discuss it with you.”
Wu Heng looked at her, somewhat surprised.
Princess Brittany's self-assessment was quite sober.
For now, she was appointed as the city adminstrator, but frankly speaking, Wu Heng had possession of the city.
If the association left and Wu Heng withdrew his forces, then the city would still belong to others.
Nothing would have changed.
“I have no objections,” Wu Heng nodded.
Princess Brittany's expression brightened, “Thank you, Island Lord Wu Heng.”
She continued, “I have another request and would like to discuss it with you. Please forgive me if it's not agreeable to you.”
“What is it? Just speak directly,” Wu Heng said.
Princess Brittany took a deep breath and said, “Gold and Silver Island's infrastructure and concepts have already surpassed the current Yeko Kingdom. I want Gold and Silver Island's help in building Netalee City, to construct some houses, as well as those bright street lamps for use during the night.”
She wanted to replicate Gold and Silver Island's model.
Wu Heng looked at her eyes filled with expectation and nodded, “We can help you, but it will be a large project, so we'll have to plan it out gradually.”
“Understood.”
After having dinner.
Philippa pulled Shanaela aside to chat about the journey here.
Shanaela listened earnestly, as if enjoying a story.
As the night grew late.
Shanaela chose a room on the same floor, opposite her, ostensibly still as the president of the Starflower Commerce Association, she couldn't appear as though she were staying at the Island Lord's Mansion.
Wu Heng was in the study, reading for a while.
Using the Array, he appeared in Shanaela's room the next second.
Looking up, Wu Heng saw Shanaela and the female housekeeper looking towards him nervously.
The housekeeper stood in front, holding a longsword and a small round shield.
Shanaela stood behind, holding the pistol Wu Heng gave her, pointed towards where he stood.
When the Array disappeared and they saw it was Wu Heng, they relaxed slightly.
Shanaela complained, “Why did you come over like this, we thought it was someone else!”
“I've learned a new Skill and thought to give it a try. Put the gun away; it's quite frightening,” Wu Heng said with a laugh.
Shanaela put the gun back into her Space Ring and whispered a couple of words to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper nodded, “Master, my lady, I'll be next door. Call me anytime you need.”
“Mm.”
The housekeeper left and closed the door.
Wu Heng stepped forward and embraced the Wood Elf he hadn't seen for nearly half a month, hanging her on his body.
