The paper had been passed around completely.
The four of them refrained from writing any longer, awaiting their arrival at a secure destination.
Whoosh~!
Suddenly, a light pierced through the dark and chaotic window outside.
All four opened their eyes, looking outside with a hint of confusion.
Even with most of their perception shielded within the carriage, it shouldn't have been possible to arrive so quickly.
The train jostled slightly.
The door opened.
All four stood up in unison, their gazes shifting toward the door with suspicion and disquiet.
Then, the compartment's large door opened, admitting a figure.
They stared at each other, frozen in place.
The door closed again, the train plunging back into the void and continuing towards an unknown destination.
Both parties stood there, upright.
Watching one another, suspicion, surprise, and disbelief appeared in the eyes of the four opposite them.
Black hair, black pupils.
The Island Master of Gold and Silver Island?
How could he be here? Could it be that the officials who had gone missing in the city recently were his doing?
Impossible.
Wu Heng wore no mask.
He donned Ink Scale Armor from the association and held a rifle in his hands.
His gaze was also fixed on the four opposite him, three of whom were dressed opulently, like wealthy merchants, and the fourth, judging from his appearance, was the Second Prince himself.
Rumors of the Second Prince's appearance had circulated, and having seen his double before, Wu Heng could identify him at a glance.
The four on the other side exchanged rapid looks, then each drew their weapons from their waists.
Their mouths opened, as if they were roaring loudly.
But no sound came out.
Then, the four charged toward him, spaced apart in a coordinated attack.
Wu Heng watched the oncoming men and raised his rifle, aiming ahead.
The lack of physical touch made him uncertain if he could pull the trigger accurately; perhaps it was better to play it safe.
He disengaged the safety and squeezed the trigger repeatedly.
Bullets silently flew out of the barrel, heading straight for the opposition.
Under their horrified gazes,
The bullets found their marks–in the forehead, in the chest, passing right through.
There was no sense of touch on the train, so they couldn't feel pain. The men's faces showed confusion as their bodies slowly collapsed.
The Second Prince, hit in the chest, did not die immediately but struggled to crawl toward a nearby table, reaching out to grab it.
Wu Heng approached, pressing the rifle against his back and firing three more shots.
The Second Prince fell completely and did not rise again.
With everyone in the carriage dead, Wu Heng picked up the papers on the table for a look, noting they had used this method to communicate before his arrival.
Seeing the writing about prioritizing the capture of Lundham City,
And the arrangement to assassinate Wen Mansha with their level 18 underlings, he raised an eyebrow.
It seemed he had come at the right time.
Without these people, the matter of Lundham City would never be resolved.
Furthermore, it was clear that the Second Prince lacked the power to confront the Crown Prince head-on and could barely defend against assassination attempts arranged by the latter.
He continued to examine the pen, a common pen produced on Gold and Silver Island.
This fellow had also gotten a hold of a pen.
He casually pocketed both items.
The train continued on its journey.
Wu Heng moved to the train door, glancing over the schedule.
Destination: Sti City.
He had never heard of it.
But it must be a city within the Yeko Kingdom.
Wu Heng returned to his seat, stepping over the bodies to sit down on the chair and using the opportunity to ponder the issues ahead.
With the Second Prince slain, the purpose of this trip had been achieved.
Had he known he would kill him on the Phantom Train, he wouldn't have bothered investigating, interrogating corpses, or arranging for messengers–all troublesome tasks.
Now, the Second Prince was dead by his hand.
What should he do next?
A large-scale attack would still draw the attention of The Holy Court, but allowing the Second Prince's territories to remain unchecked would likely result in them being quickly reclaimed by the Crown Prince.
And then Lundham City would still have a new adversary in the Crown Prince.
Just as previously considered, no matter who ultimately ascended to the throne, they would attempt to retake the land that Lundham City had occupied.
Should he disguise himself as the Second Prince?
That method was worth a try.
But he was not very familiar with the Second Prince's past. It was too easy to be exposed.
Plus, he couldn't stay here long, as he ultimately needed to return to Gold and Silver Island.
How to naturally transition the entire territory to Wen Mansha, or appoint a new person to manage it?
After who knows how long,
the void outside the window had given way to the jagged outline of mountains.
And the train came to a gradual halt.
With a whoosh,
the door swung open.
Hearing and touch returned.
We've arrived!
Wu Heng glanced at the time; nearly half an hour had passed, and they were probably at a nearby city.
With one hand dragging two corpses, he stepped off the train.
The door closed again and vanished from sight.
Before him lay a stretch of woodland, and beyond that, the silhouette of a city was visible in the distance.
Wu Heng released the Three Ghosts.
Hovering in mid-air, the ghosts widened their eyes at the four bodies laid out before them.
“Just like that, they're dead?” Glenda inquired.
“It's better to be cautious, in case they had some sort of magical item or Special Item,” Wu Heng replied.
One was a prince, and the remaining three were from the Secret Cultivation Hall.
Wu Heng wouldn't have been surprised if they had pulled out some unusual magical weapons.
Being a lone, vulnerable Mage on the train without his Skeleton or ghosts for backup, it was wise to remain cautious.
“Good that they're dead–saves the trouble of any further mishaps,” Glenda nodded in agreement.
Xiao Xiao, impatient, urged from the side, “Uncle, check their belongings. The prince must have had many valuable items on him.”
Wu Heng moved to search the bodies.
Their weapons and armor, ornate brooches, gold and silver jewelry, and four Space Rings.
Wu Heng slipped on the Space Rings from the three members of the Secret Cultivation Hall.
Bags of gold coins and silver coins, Consortium statements, property deeds, Magical Scrolls, protective magical items, and gold rings signifying membership in the Secret Cultivation Hall.
They really were rolling in wealth.
Next, Wu Heng put on the Second Prince's Space Ring.
Lavish clothing, exquisite jewelry, money bags, Magical Scrolls, and a multitude of documents and information.
He examined each item, eventually selecting three Special Items.
[Human Bone Nail (Special Item)]
[Effect: Extracts the Remnant Soul from a corpse.]
[Side Effect: Impacts the user's own Soul.]
(Description: A bone emanating an ominous force, when driven into the brow of a corpse it can extract the lingering Soul within.)
At first glance, this Special Item was a phalange.
Who knew which ruthless individual had died and their finger turned into a Special Item?
The surface was dry and yellowed, sticking up straight like a nail.
“A finger?” Glenda floated closer, the other two ghosts also gazing on curiously.
Wu Heng clarified, “It's called a Human Bone Nail, a Special Item. When you pierce it into a corpse's forehead, it extracts the Remnant Soul.”
“It doesn't seem too useful,” Xiao Xiao remarked. “We already have the Soul Capturing Jade.”
The Bone Nail served the same purpose as the Soul Capturing Jade.
The difference being that while the Jade could extract Remnant Souls en masse, its side effect required a Sacrifice, that is, the 'person' being drained.
Wu Heng had been using the Soul Capturing Jade to extract Remnant Souls from Zombies, and it had proven very effective.
But this Bone Nail required piercing into the corpse's brow, obviously a one-at-time process.
And the side effect was a direct hit to the user's own Soul.
Quite a serious drawback.
In comparison, it was inferior to the Jade.
“Indeed, it's not as effective as our jade,” Wu Heng remarked.
Glenda pondered for a moment before saying, “The Ghost we saw imprisoned in the basement, could it have been extracted with this?”
Wu Heng paused, recalling the City Lord's Ghost.
Having no relevant memories in his fragmented recollection, he couldn't be certain whether or not there was a connection.
“Not sure,” Wu Heng repeated. “What would a prince be doing, researching Ghosts?”
The Three Ghosts shook their heads in unison.
Perplexed, Wu Heng moved on to the next item.
[Saidu's Medal of Honor (Special Item)]
[Effect: Inflicts holy damage with every attack, and strengthens the influence of speech.]
[Side Effect: An unceasing piety.]
(Description: The glow of a hero, bringing you the greatest of honors.)
It was a pendant, carved with a pattern commonly seen in the Church's insignia.
And 'Saidu' — he was one of the Church Heroes.
The one watching over the Crown Prince in the Royal Capital.
How did his Special Item end up with the Second Prince?
Wu Heng glanced to the side. The Three Ghosts weren't paying attention to him as they were sorting scrolls and items nearby.
He turned his attention to the final Special Item.
[Phantom Train Ticket Machine (Special Item)]
