Chapter 1024: Chapter 817, Evolution Level 19 Chapter 1024: Chapter 817, Evolution Level 19 Wu Heng stood at the back of the crowd.
A soft voice reached his ears. “The Bard of Gold and Silver Island, why isn't anyone carrying a lyre?”
Bella replied, “Maybe it's just not popular here. Different places have different popular instruments.”
“Oh!” Xiao Xiao nodded and then turned to Wu Heng, “Uncle, he spoke ill of Aunt Wen Mansha. Should we beat him up?”
“There's no need. They all use the same terms; we can say the same about them when we get back to our territory.”
“Alright.”
After standing there for a while, he made his way through the crowd.
He found a dimly lit corner, had the Ghost confirm a location outside the city, and cast “Teleportation Technique” to leave the city directly.
Next, in a deserted area, he boarded the Phantom Train and returned to Seterde Fortress.
The Phantom Train reappeared and he had already arrived at the forest outside Seterde Fortress.
Glancing at the time, it was already four forty in the afternoon.
He let out the Ghost to check the direction of the fortress and began to walk towards it.
The silhouette of the fortress gradually came into view.
“Wu Heng, some spies over there, I killed them directly,” Bella flew back and reported.
“Spies still keep coming in droves, they really aren't afraid of losing lives,” Wu Heng changed direction and walked towards the location Bella mentioned.
Two corpses were lying on the ground, and searching their bodies yielded maps with the fortress's surrounding checkpoints drawn on them.
“The people arranged this time are much fewer than at the beginning; it seems to have had some effect,” Bella said nearby.
Wu Heng nodded and put the bodies back into his Space Ring.
He continued walking towards the fortress.
The Skeleton guards did not stop him, and the city's residents walked and chatted on the streets. Except for fewer people, there wasn't anything different.
He walked into the Commander's Mansion.
Hartel, who was working on the first floor, looked up at the sound of footsteps.
Seeing Wu Heng enter, his eyes lit up instantly, “Master, you're back!”
“Yes, I heard a hero had come to the fortress; no problems, I hope?” Wu Heng said with a smile.
“Thanks to you and the madam, nothing happened,” Hartel bowed again.
Wu Heng nodded, “Wen Mansha?”
“Madam and Miss are upstairs; I'll take you there,” Hartel led the way from the front, with Wu Heng following up the stairs.
At a door, Hartel knocked twice and said, “Madam, the master has returned.”
“Come in!”
He pushed open the door and entered directly.
Seeing Wu Heng, Wen Mansha, cradling a child, softly called him master and then said to the child, “Daddy's come to see you.”
The infant in her arms stopped nursing and reached out toward him.
Wu Heng took the child into his arms, gently rocking it.
Wen Mansha wiped her chest with a handkerchief and then asked, “Master, why have you returned?”
They had spoken in the morning and now he was back in the afternoon.
“Was a bit worried about you, came to check things over and make arrangements before I go back,” Wu Heng sat down beside her, entertaining the child in his arms.
Hartel brought over some tea, placing it before them, then stood aside with proper decorum.
“You worried again,” Wen Mansha said with a touch of guilt.
Wu Heng asked, “Where's the dragon gone?”
At that moment, the child reached out to be held by Wen Mansha again.
Taking the child back, Wen Mansha continued nursing while speaking, “Hartel, tell the master what the Consortium said.”
Hartel reported, “Master, they said they would head north along the road until they reached Lundham City.”
“What was their purpose?”
Hartel shook his head, “They didn't say, but while in the fortress, they only stayed inside the Consortium's building for half a day and then moved on to the next city.”
Wu Heng fell into contemplation.
The last time he encountered the dragon was in Netalee City; did it travel all this way just to inspect each of the Consortium's buildings?
Was it necessary to inspect them one by one?
Wen Mansha then added, “I've already had people notify others down the line; all the cities along the way will avoid conflict, so there shouldn't be any problems.”
“Good work with the arrangements,” Wu Heng nodded, then continued, “Has the Messenger been arranged?”
In the morning conversation, Wu Heng had instructed Wen Mansha to arrange for a Messenger to locate the Second Prince's position.
“It's all been arranged; a civil officer from the city hall will serve as the Messenger, and they'll be arriving by train in the next couple of days,” Wen Mansha informed.
“Good, make it convincing.”
Wen Mansha nodded, while Hartel also maintained a smile, occasionally glancing over.
After discussing the matters at hand, Wu Heng pulled out three train tickets from his Space Ring.
“Take one each; if you're in danger, just tear it along the perforation, and the Phantom Train will appear. When that happens, fill out 'Gold and Silver Island' on your itinerary, which should save your lives.”
Currently, there were two ways the Phantom Train could appear: Wu Heng's “Train Captain's Hat,” which upon wearing, would designate him as the train captain and allow him to bring two train attendants aboard.
The other way was the “Phantom Train Ticket,” one ticket per person, with no possibility of bringing along others.
“Master, my life is of little value, better to leave it for the madam to use,” Hartel hesitated, then softly spoke.
Wu Heng looked at her and said sternly, “You're not to talk like that again. If even you think so, what about others?”
Wen Mansha turned to look back, smiling, “Aren't you going to apologize to your master? Just don't say it again.”
“I'm sorry, master. I won't say it anymore,” Hartel said.
Wu Heng nodded and then said, “Inside the Phantom Train, all senses will disappear; that's normal, so don't be afraid. The watches I've given you can tell the time; remember to eat, drink, and take care of your needs, and the child, might not adapt well to that environment, so look after them.”
Both women nodded, showing their understanding.
Wen Mansha put away two tickets and handed the other to Hartel, saying, “If you don't listen, the master won't pay attention to you tonight.”
Hartel bowed again and stored the ticket.
“Let that be all for now; I'll go rest in my room. Call me for dinner,” Wu Heng rose.
“Is there anything in particular you want to eat, Master?”
“Anything is fine.”
“Understood.”
Wu Heng left the room and went to the study where he opened the boundary door and went through.
Stepping out of the boundary door, he looked up at the clock hanging on the wall.
It was already half-past five.
We couldn't linger here much longer.
The Skeleton adjusted the surveillance monitors for cells 202 to 204.
The original three Level 18 professionals had all completed their transformation into Zombies.
Yet outwardly, they still maintained human forms without any overly grotesque mutations.
Sigh~!
The Three Ghosts flew back inside.
Xiao Xiao called out loudly, “Uncle!”
“Ah! What's up, why such a commotion?”
Xiao Xiao pointed at the screen, saying in astonishment, “They're all Level 19 now.”
Wu Heng looked toward the screen, his brow furrowing, “You're saying all three of them have reached Level 19?”
“Yeah! So fast,” Xiao Xiao said.
Glenda also chimed in, “Judging from their levels, they indeed reached Level 19. It seems the transformation from professionals is even swifter than we thought.”
“Indeed!” Wu Heng was also surprised by the outcome.
He had anticipated that transforming professionals into Zombies would yield better results, but he hadn't expected the virus injected in the morning to increase their level by the evening.
And all three had leveled up simultaneously.
Bella said with a smile, “It feels like it won't be long before all three of them reach Level 20.”
Xiao Xiao considered this and then said, “If that's the case, The Holy Court won't dare to bully us anymore.”
“Let your uncle attack the association headquarters directly,” Glenda was the first to suggest.
“That's no good, uncle still has to be my dad, what if he dies out there?”
“Xiao Xiao is so biased, you didn't say the same about me last time,” Glenda said, pretending to be upset.
Xiao Xiao immediately snuggled up, “That's not true, auntie, we're the best together.”
“What about me?” Bella asked.
“We three are the best.”
Wu Heng sat in his chair, pondering over the transformation of professionals.
This was indeed a shortcut to cultivate high-level Skeletons.
Just like Xiao Xiao said, in time, The Holy Court's threat to himself would diminish, maybe to the point where no one would bother him again.
Of course, it was still best to avoid serious conflicts with them whenever possible.
After all, Divine Spirits were truly real.
Having worked so hard to get to where he was, angering the Divine Spirits and being utterly destroyed would be too great a loss.
In this world, was there truly a path to godhood?
Or were gods born as gods, with mere professionals reaching, at most, the heights of heroes in their lifetimes?
“Uncle, don't you think the four of us are the best?” Xiao Xiao flew over.
Wu Heng looked up and said, “Invincible in the world, that's best.”
“Hehe!” Xiao Xiao laughed.
Wu Heng looked at the time and stood up, “Let's go, it's time to go back for dinner.”
The Three Ghosts flew back into their bodies, and Wu Heng walked through the boundary door.
Seterde Fortress.
Wu Heng had a hearty dinner.
He'd been skulking here and there these past few days and hadn't really eaten well.
Even when he was disguised as a gang leader and Commander, he was worried the food brought to him might be poisoned, so he didn't eat a bite; he just ate the bread he carried with him.
After a proper dinner,
Wu Heng prepared some extra and, using the Mansion Skill, sent it to the girl inside.
Wen Mansha looked in through the opened door and said, “Master, a new maid of your choosing? She's just a bit thin.”
Once the Mansion Skill closed, Wu Heng said, “I rescued a girl from a gang, worried she might reveal my whereabouts, I've kept her locked in there.”
“Are you planning to keep her locked up forever? Don't let her get smothered.”
Wu Heng replied, “I have no choice, she thinks we're human traitors. What if I let her out and she spills the beans?”
Wen Mansha thought for a moment, “It's inconvenient for you to take her with you, leave her with me, I'll find a job for her, and when your matters are settled, we'll send her back.”
It seemed like a viable solution to Wu Heng. The Mansion Skill was opened again, “Come on out!”
The girl cautiously stepped out, her gaze down at her toes.
Wen Mansha lifted the girl's chin and looked at her, “Master said he rescued you from a gang, is that true?”
“Please, don't kill me.” Pressured, the girl knelt and pleaded.
“Quite obedient,” Wen Mansha continued, “Stay in the city for a few days, and we'll let you go back later, how about that?”
“Stay, stay for a few days.”
“That depends on your behavior. If you're obedient and smart, you'll be back in no time.”
“I'll be good,” said the girl.
Wen Mansha nodded, “Hartel, find a job for her.”
“Yes, madam.”
Having the girl taken away solved one problem.
“Let's go feed the baby, and then get some early rest.”
The two went upstairs together to feed the baby.
Once the child was fed and handed over to the Skeleton Ghost Hag, they returned to their room together.
Bedroom.
Moonlight filtered through the latticed windows, casting silken strands into the room.
The air was laced with a faint fragrance.
Lying lazily in bed, Wu Heng's mind was still occupied with the thought of the three transformed Zombie professionals who had reached Level 19.
It was no wonder Necromancers were suppressed and restricted, some experiments really were rather grotesque.
At that moment, the door opened, and Wen Mansha walked in wearing a black strappy nightgown, from the bathroom, her red hair wet and reaching down to her waist, the gown clinging to her graceful silhouette.
Following behind her was Hartel, also coming in, her hair pinned up high with a few loose strands framing her face.
Still wearing her black framed glasses, her upper body adorned in black lace lingerie, revealing a glimpse of her bosom.
Wen Mansha sat on the bed's edge, gathering her wet hair, smiling as she said, “Master, Hartel specifically dressed up like this for you, what do you think?”
Wu Heng looked again towards her, “Hartel has my appreciation.”
“Thank you, sir.”
