Chapter 534: Help
Chapter 534: Chapter 534: Help
That meant something.
To them, it meant Gu Jin was strong, smart, and—deep down—kind.
But Gu Jin didn’t know what was going on in their minds.
She just stared at them for a moment and nodded silently.
If she knew what they were thinking, she probably would’ve said something like,
"You think I saved you out of kindness? No. I’ve killed more people in my life than I’ve saved. I only saved you because... maybe I wanted to balance it. Just once. Just once, I chose to save people. Maybe that’ll give me good karma."
But she didn’t say any of that.
She just watched them leave, one by one.
The last few people had already left.
But just as Gu Jin turned to go back inside her tent, a pair of people stayed behind—a man and a woman, maybe husband and wife.
Gu Jin looked at them quietly.
She recognized the man.
He was the one who had used the measuring meter earlier to check the energy level of the rift. He had been the first to confirm that it was really a chaos rift.
The man stepped forward with a small smile. "You might be wondering why we stayed behind," he said politely.
Gu Jin didn’t even blink. She shook her head and replied flatly, "You’re thinking too much. I’m not interested in whether you stay or leave."
The couple’s faces twitched awkwardly.
They had expected at least some kind of reaction—maybe curiosity, or a thank-you. But Gu Jin’s voice was as calm as still water. No emotion. No interest. Just like a wooden block.
They both took a deep breath and pushed down their irritation.
The man continued,
"Actually... we think the chaos rift appeared because of me. Or maybe, because of us. It was meant for us, but it ended up hurting others too..."
Hearing that, Gu Jin raised one eyebrow.
"Oh?" she said lightly. "If you already know you’re the reason why others almost died, then maybe you should leave."
Her voice was cold, but not angry. Just matter-of-fact.
The man’s lips twitched again. He sighed and said,
"We don’t want to cause more problems, truly. But... my daughter fell into a portal."
Gu Jin crossed her arms and gave a long, slow blink. "Not my problem."
She turned, ready to enter her tent.
But the woman quickly spoke up,
"Wait! We know you act like a cold person, but you’re not. We saw what you did back there. You saved everyone."
Gu Jin stopped and turned halfway, annoyed.
"I never said I’m warm or kind. Don’t guess what I’m thinking," she said sharply.
But the couple didn’t stop. They looked at her with hopeful eyes.
"You’re strong. You saw the danger before anyone else. You’re calm, smart... and we know you’re capable."
"We need someone like you," the man added. "We’ll give you anything you want. Anything. Just help us find our daughter."
Gu Jin sighed.
"I already told you—I’m on my own mission," she said. "I need to find someone very important to me. I don’t have time to run around chasing your daughter."
The couple looked sad, but they didn’t give up.
The man lowered his head and said softly,
"Our daughter... she saved us. She pushed us away from the portal and fell in herself. We couldn’t save her."
"We only grabbed the edge of her clothes as she fell," the woman whispered.
"That’s how we found out where she landed. We know the world. We know how to get there."
"We just need your protection on the way."
Gu Jin was silent for a while.
They had a clear destination. They didn’t need her to find the girl—just to help them stay alive.
She thought about it.
Then said, "There are many powerful mages out there. Hire them. I’m not the strongest person around."
The couple nodded right away. "Yes, you’re right. There are stronger people."
Gu Jin’s lip twitched.
Really? They’re agreeing just like that? These two have no shame, she thought.
Still, the couple kept going.
"But those powerful people—" the man said, "they didn’t see the chaos rift coming. Not even the bodyguard we hired. He’s a high-ranked mage, but he didn’t sense anything."
"But you did," the woman said. "Before anything happened, you paused. You stopped others. You even warned the crowd."
"You’re not just strong," the man added. "You have amazing instincts. That’s something others don’t have."
Gu Jin didn’t reply.
Then the woman said something that made Gu Jin’s eyebrow twitch.
"Also, high-ranked mages only care about money. They won’t risk their lives unless the payment is perfect. But you... you don’t work for money."
Gu Jin almost coughed.
Excuse me? Who said I don’t work for money?
She looked at them, trying not to laugh.
If they offered enough gold, spirit stones, or rare ingredients, she’d absolutely work for money! Of course, the condition was that Long Yifan was rescued.
Just as Gu Jin was thinking about money and spirit stones, the couple spoke again.
"Our daughter is in grave danger," the woman said. "She... she’s trapped in a world that’s filled with only women."
Gu Jin blinked. "Only women?"
The man nodded. "Yes. No men. Not a single one."
Gu Jin paused and raised an eyebrow. "And that’s a problem?"
The couple looked at each other before the man answered, "Yes. It’s more dangerous than you think."
Gu Jin looked confused. "If she’s in a world of only women, shouldn’t that be safer? There’s less chance of her getting hurt."
But inside, Gu Jin was already thinking about something else.
’Long Yifan might be in that world too... after all, Wen Xue had said that he was in a world filled with only women.’
She knew the world; however, she didn’t know which portal to take to enter that world.
But if this couple had found a way into that world, maybe it wasn’t a coincidence. Maybe fate brought them to her. Maybe she will be able to reach Long Yifan through them.
Still, she kept her face blank.
The couple didn’t know what she was thinking. They just continued speaking honestly.
"It’s not safe," the man said. "The people in that world... they don’t trust outsiders."
The woman added, "Especially if they find out our daughter came from another world. They’ll see her as an intruder."
Gu Jin narrowed her eyes. "So? They know she’s from another world. What can they do?"
The man sighed and explained,
"The women in that world are very possessive. They protect their land fiercely. If they catch someone from another world—man or woman—they treat them as a threat."
The woman looked down, her hands shaking a little.
"They don’t just kick them out. They... they torture them. Use them. If a man enters, they make him a vessel for their cultivation. If a woman enters, they extract her power. And then they make her... a slave."
Gu Jin’s eyes widened slightly.
So cruel?
That wasn’t what she had expected.
If that was true, then not only was the couple’s daughter in danger, but if Long Yifan had landed in that world... he might be in even more trouble than she thought.
Gu Jin thought for a long moment.
Then she looked at the couple and asked simply, "If I help you, what do I get?"
The couple’s eyes lit up immediately. Just when they were about to give up, Gu Jin had given them a bit of hope.
"We’ll give you anything you want!" the man said quickly. "Money, treasures—name it!"
Gu Jin didn’t answer. She just kept staring at them.
Seeing her silence, the woman added, "We’re even ready to give you a position in our military. A high one. A division captain. You’ll have your own troops. Your own power."
Gu Jin blinked.
That wasn’t a small offer.
They must be from a very powerful background, she thought. You don’t just hand out a military position like candy to strangers.
But she shook her head. "I don’t want power."
The couple paused. They seemed disappointed but also understanding.
They went quiet for a while, thinking hard.
Then the man suddenly said, "That world the one with only women—has a special kind of stone."
Gu Jin tilted her head.
"Stone?"
"Yes," the woman said. "A stone that helps with plant element cultivation. Very rare. Very useful."
Gu Jin’s eyes sparkled just a little. Plant element? That was one of her best powers.
She leaned forward slightly. "Is that all?"
The couple shook their heads.
"There’s also... chaos stones," the man said. "They can boost chaos element power. You won’t find them anywhere else."
That got Gu Jin’s full attention.
Plant and chaos elements?
Both were extremely important to her.
Now she was really thinking about it.
She looked at the couple again, her voice calm but serious. "You’re sure those things are found in that world?"
"Yes," the woman said. "We can gather them. We’ll give them all to you. Please, just help us bring our daughter back."
