Chapter 523: Chapter 523: Reuniting

The door was wide open, and the scene in front of her made her blood boil.

Her cousin Jin Mu was being held by two men.

One of them had grabbed her from behind, holding her arms tight so she couldn’t move.

The other one stood in front of her, grinning with a disgusting smile on his face.

Pei Ke was on the floor, blood dripping from his forehead. He looked dizzy, like he had been hit hard.

Jin Mu was struggling, kicking, trying to get free, but the man behind her was too strong. Her face was pale with fear.

"Let go of me!" she shouted. "Help! Let me go!"

The man in front laughed. "You’re too pretty to be yelling like that. Don’t waste your breath."

Gu Jin stood at the door, her red eyes glowing faintly.

She didn’t scream. She didn’t shout.

She simply stepped inside.

Her boots made a soft sound against the floor.

The two men turned toward her.

"W-Wait! I didn’t touch her! I was just—"

He didn’t get to finish either.

Vines burst from the ground and wrapped around his legs, pulling him down. Then a thin, sharp root stabbed into his arm, injecting poison.

He howled in pain.

Gu Jin walked forward slowly, looking down at him like he was nothing more than dirt.

"I warned the last two men," she said, her voice like ice. "I’m not warning you."

She lifted her hand again, and a small ball of thunder danced on her fingers.

"Wait—please—!" the man begged.

But Gu Jin didn’t listen.

She threw the thunder at him. It hit his chest, and he jerked wildly, falling flat and twitching.

Silence filled the room.

Jin Mu sat on the floor, breathing hard, her face pale and eyes wide.

Pei Ke groaned and sat up, holding his head. "Damn... That hurt..."

Gu Jin turned to Jin Mu and walked over.

"Are you okay?" she asked, still calm.

Jin Mu looked at Gu Jin with wide, surprised eyes.

"You... what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice shaking a little. "How did you even find us?"

Before Gu Jin could answer, Pei Ke stood up and wiped the blood from his forehead.

"This is not the time to ask questions," he said quickly. Then he looked at Gu Jin with a hopeful gaze. "Did you bring them? The passports? The ID papers?"

Gu Jin nodded calmly. "I brought everything. All the identical copies, ID documents, and proof. I’ll clear your names. No one will blame you anymore."

But instead of smiling, both Jin Mu and Pei Ke looked even more worried.

Jin Mu shook her head. "It’s not that simple, Gu Jin. This is a trap. Even with papers, they might still—"

"We can talk later," Pei Ke interrupted. "We need to leave this place first."

Just then, the two men who were tied up and trembling in the corner tried to sneak toward the door. They thought no one was looking.

But Gu Jin saw.

Her red eyes turned cold.

Without saying a word, she flicked her fingers. A sharp vine shot out from under the floor and pierced through one man’s leg. He screamed, falling to the ground. The other man turned to run, but Gu Jin lifted her hand, and a blade of dark fire flew out, slicing across his chest.

Both of them collapsed, dead.

Jin Mu and Pei Ke stood frozen.

They didn’t say a word.

To be honest, they felt a strange kind of relief. Disgust and anger still boiled in their hearts. If Gu Jin hadn’t come in time... who knows what those monsters would have done to Jin Mu?

They didn’t feel sorry at all.

Gu Jin walked over and helped Jin Mu to her feet, then reached into her robe and handed each of them a small golden pill.

"Healing pills," she said softly. "Take them."

Pei Ke and Jin Mu didn’t hesitate. They swallowed the pills, and within seconds, they could feel warmth spreading through their bodies.

The pain faded. The bruises, cuts, and old wounds they had carried for the past two months slowly disappeared.

Pei Ke stretched his arms and blinked. "I... I feel like I was never hurt."

Jin Mu nodded, touching her side where it used to ache. "Everything’s healed..."

But then, her face turned serious. She looked straight at Gu Jin.

"Gu Jin," she said, "there’s something really important I have to tell you."

Gu Jin gave her a soft smile. "I already know."

Jin Mu blinked. "You do?"

Gu Jin looked calm, but there was something strong in her eyes.

"You were going to tell me about the Gu family, weren’t you? That they found out I’m the real daughter."

Jin Mu’s mouth opened in surprise.

"I’ve already acknowledged them," Gu Jin said. "They know the truth now. The whole truth."

Jin Mu didn’t speak for a few seconds.

Then, slowly, her eyes filled with tears. She didn’t cry loudly... just a few silent tears sliding down her cheeks.

Pei Ke walked slowly up to Gu Jin and gave her a small smile.

"Thank you," he said. "If you hadn’t come, I don’t know what would’ve happened. You saved us."

But Gu Jin didn’t smile back.

Her eyes turned cold.

"Then tell me," she said in a quiet but sharp voice, "why didn’t you tell me where Jin Mu was?"

Pei Ke froze.

"If you knew her location," she continued, "I could’ve followed you. I could’ve helped sooner."

Pei Ke looked down, his face turning red with shame. He opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say.

Even Jin Mu looked uncomfortable. She stepped closer and spoke up.

"It’s not his fault," she said softly. "Let me explain."

Gu Jin looked at her, waiting.

Jin Mu took a deep breath. "Pei Ke and I... we made a magic bond. It’s something new. A kind of magic and science mixed together. The bond lets one person tell the other if they’re in danger. It can also show a rough idea of where the other person is."

Gu Jin’s eyes narrowed a little. "So you told him you were in trouble?"

"Yes," Jin Mu nodded. "I sent a signal. He knew I was in danger. But the bond didn’t show the exact place. It only pointed to a large area. It said I was in Country J, but not which one."

Pei Ke lifted his head slowly. "I kept looking everywhere," he said.

"I even pretended to be a businessman so I could ask around. Then... I heard some criminals talking. They mentioned a girl who wouldn’t stop fighting back and looked Chinese."

"That’s when I knew it had to be Jin Mu."

He paused, then added,

"I didn’t mean to hide it from you, Gu Jin. I swear. But all our devices were taken away. Even our artifacts were stolen. We were stuck in this awful criminal city, and we couldn’t contact anyone. We had no way to reach out."

Gu Jin was silent for a moment.

Then she looked away, her face softening just a little.

"I see," she said. "So you were trapped too."

Pei Ke gave a small nod. "Yes. We were planning to escape first, then come find you. But everything happened too fast."

Jin Mu touched Gu Jin’s arm gently. "We didn’t want to keep secrets from you."

Jin Mu nodded slowly, then looked at Gu Jin with a puzzled face.

"But... how did you know I was here?" she asked.

Gu Jin looked at her calmly.

"I met a divination master," she said. "He told me you were in Country J. Not just that—he said you were trapped in a criminal city. That’s when I knew I had to act fast. I caught the next flight I could and came here right away."

Jin Mu’s eyes widened in surprise. "A divination master? That’s rare..."

Then she paused for a moment and asked, "Was he also the one who told you we were in this room?"

Gu Jin shook her head. "No. He told me you were in the first room of the building. But when I opened that room, someone else was there."

Jin Mu nodded with a sigh.

"That’s true. We were in the first room before. But when those men showed up and started searching, we panicked. We ran and hid in the second-to-last room, hoping they wouldn’t find us."

Pei Ke added, "Guess we were unlucky..."

Jin Mu looked at Gu Jin again, this time with deep gratitude in her eyes.

"Thank you for checking every room. If you hadn’t... we might not have made it."

Gu Jin shook her head slowly.

"I didn’t find you by checking the rooms," she said. "It was a girl. She told me where you were."

Jin Mu and Pei Ke were surprised.

"A girl?" Pei Ke asked. "Where is she? We want to thank her, too."

Gu Jin’s eyes widened.

"Oh no... I... I told her to wait outside."
