Chapter 361: Misunderstanding?

Chapter 361: Chapter 361: Misunderstanding?

However, her brain was much smarter, and with her vast experience, she instantly knew that Long Yifan was lying.

"Mr. Long, looks like you truly take me as a fool. Do you think I will fall for your lie?"

Long Yifan: "..." Wrong try...

He sighed and asked softly,

"Can...can you please not break off the engagement? You see...this engagement is my mother’s last wish, I genuinely had feelings for you but due to my mother’s last wish, I..."

Gu Jin’s eyes turned cold, and she slapped Long Yifan’s face.

Slap.

Long Yifan froze. He heard Gu Jin’s cold voice,

"I have seen despicable people, but I have never seen a person like you. You are falsifying her last words to sustain your position in the Long Family?"

Having lost her mother once, Gu Jin knew what a person could feel.

Hence she sympathized with Long Yifan. But when he used his mother’s last wish as an excuse to justify himself, Gu Jin felt utterly disgusted.

She even despised herself for loving such a shameless person.

If earlier she just vowed to take revenge against Long Yifan, then now...she loathed him.

Long Yifan fell the world around him spinning. He wanted to say something but he couldn’t open his mouth.

Using his mother as an excuse?

Did he really do that?

He didn’t know. If sacrificing the only person he likes for his mother’s wishes is an excuse then...he was indeed fake.

Long Yifan felt a strange kind of numbness in his heart. Yet he felt difficulty in breathing.

The air around him stilled, and his body turned cold. In a slightly heavy voice, he explained,

"I am telling the truth..."

However Gu Jin raised her hand and stopped him, as she stared at him, there was no warmth in her eyes,

"Mr. Long it better if you never show me your face. You disgust me."

With that Gu Jin walked away.

Long Yifan felt anxious. He hurriedly followed behind Gu Jin and said,

"Gu Jin please hear me once..."

Gu Jin however ignored him.

Jasmine who saw the cold expression on Gu Jin’s face, hurriedly walked up to her and asked in a cautious voice,

"Jin’er what happened ?"

Gu Jin took a deep breath to suppress the anger in her heart.

She couldn’t explain why she felt so angry. Maybe it was because of her past life.

When she lost her mother, she wanted to die.

What could she even live for? The world? It became colorless to her.

Dying felt much better. Free from all the tension of life she could easily meet her parents and live a good life with them in the afterlife.

However, her mother’s last wish stopped her from doing so.

’Live well. Live for me.’ She had said. And Gu Jin followed it.

In her previous life, she lost many of her friends and James and each time her will to die deepened.

Yet she held back. Why? All because of her mother’s wish.

She worshipped it as a god’s rule which never dared to break.

And now...hearing someone twist their mother’s last wish just to justify themselves made her feel sick.

Gu Jin looked in Jasmine’s direction,

"Nothing. Please take your brother away.’

Jasmine’s heart sank as she looked at Gu Jin’s face. It was cold, distant, and filled with anger. She had never seen Gu Jin like this before.

She hesitated for a moment, then gently grabbed her brother’s arm.

"Brother, let’s go," Jasmine said softly, her voice pleading.

But Long Yifan shook his head, his eyes glued to Gu Jin’s back as she walked away.

"Jin, please, just listen to me!" he called out, his voice trembling.

Gu Jin didn’t even turn around. Her steps were firm, each one taking her farther away from him.

Jasmine tightened her grip on her brother’s arm. "Brother, stop it! You’re only making things worse."

Long Yifan finally looked at Jasmine, his face pale and his eyes filled with a mix of regret and desperation.

"She hates me now," he whispered, almost as if he couldn’t believe it.

Jasmine bit her lip, unsure of what to say. She had warned him, but it was too late now.

"Come on, let’s leave," she said again, pulling him gently.

Reluctantly, Long Yifan allowed himself to be led away. His shoulders were slumped, and he looked like he had lost everything.

Meanwhile, Gu Jin reached the main hall, her expression calm, but her mind was in turmoil. She took a deep breath, trying to push away the bitterness that lingered in her heart.

Jasmine caught up to her again, hesitating before speaking. "Jin’er, are you sure you’re okay?"

Gu Jin looked at Jasmine and gave a faint smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. "I’m fine. Don’t worry about me."

Jasmine wanted to say more but decided against it. Gu Jin clearly didn’t want to talk, and pressing her would only make things worse.

As the evening continued, Gu Jin found herself surrounded by guests, all eager to make her acquaintance. They showered her with compliments and questions, but her mind remained elsewhere.

Long Yifan, on the other hand, stood in the shadows, watching her from afar. His heart ached as he realized how much he had hurt her.

"She’s completely out of my reach now," he thought bitterly.

"Brother, can you tell me what had happened?" Jasmine asked.

"She misunderstood me..." Long Yifan said in a lost voice, "She thought I was using Mother’s last wish to justify myself."

He turned toward Jasmine and said with a bitter smile,

"Sister, am I such kind of person in her eyes?"

Jasmine’s chest tightened at her brother’s words. She looked at him, his usually confident face now filled with pain and regret.

"Brother..." she started softly, not knowing what to say.

Long Yifan ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. "I’ve made so many mistakes. But one thing I never lied about was Mother’s wish. Why can’t she see that?"

Jasmine bit her lip, struggling to find the right words. "Maybe... it’s because of everything else you did, Brother. Gu Jin doesn’t trust you anymore. And... can you really blame her?"

Long Yifan froze at her words. They hit him like a punch to the gut. He wanted to argue, but deep down, he knew Jasmine was right.

"I didn’t mean to hurt her like this," he whispered, his voice cracking.

"I know, Brother," Jasmine said gently. "But what’s done is done. You can’t change the past. All you can do now is respect her wishes and let her go."

Long Yifan shook his head. "I can’t. I can’t let her go, Jasmine. I love her."

Jasmine’s heart ached even more.

"Love isn’t enough if you’ve broken her trust, Brother. She doesn’t need words from you right now. She needs space."

Long Yifan stayed silent, staring at the ground. He didn’t want to accept it, but deep inside, he knew Jasmine was right again.

"Alright." He said softly. "I will give her space to calm down."

Just as he finished speaking, the door of the banquet was opened.

"Master!" A voice shouted.

Everyone turned around and saw a handsome young man walking in.

Gu Jin looked at the young man with a raised eyebrow,

"What are you doing here, my dear disciple."

Luo Meng smirked, his beautiful teeth full on display for others to see, as he said,

"Master I have completed my graduation one year ahead and just happened to hear about this important news."

The crowd started to chatter.

"Who is this young man?"

"I don’t know but he is handsome."

"Do you think both of them have...that kind of relationship?"

Long Yifan’s face darkened as he watched the scene unfold. The way Gu Jin’s expression softened when she looked at this young man made his chest tighten.

"Who is he?" Long Yifan muttered under his breath, clenching his fists.

Jasmine, standing beside him, whispered,

"Yifan, that’s Luo Meng, the only heir of the Luo Family. I heard he’s really talented and smart... and it looks like he’s Gu Jin’s disciple."

"Disciple?" Long Yifan’s voice was filled with disbelief.

"Yes," Jasmine nodded.

Long Yifan suddenly remembered. Indeed Gu Jin had taken in a disciple...he is learning magic seeking under her.

But why was this young man...so...weird?

Why was he giving off ambiguous vibes?

It was as if...as if there was something going on between him and Gu Jin.

Long Yifan clenched his fist and lowered his gaze.

’Calm down. Even if he is her boyfriend...you have no right to ruin it. You love her, right? Then let her be happy with the one she wants.’

Even though Long Yifan convinced himself in that way, his body had turned cold and he felt as if he would faint.

A bitter taste enveloped his mouth.

Luo Meng walked up to Gu Jin, his confident smirk still in place.

He gave her a small bow, looking completely at ease in front of the crowd.
